All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

I just want one of the Big 3....just one of them. Watching our three best MN kids in years all playing at others schools besides the U would be painful and embarrassing.

1/3 most likely 2/3 of the embarassment would only be for the 2014-2015 season as Tyus and Rashad won't be playing at any school after that.

Reid Travis on ESPNU right now

the Addidas Nations championship game is on right now from 8:00 till 10:00 on ESPNU and Reid is playing in it right now, i would have made this thread sooner but i didnt know he was in it until i started watching the game

James Palmer SG just commited to miami....hes not very good but i know miami is recruiting a lot of the same players as us so hopefully this fills up at least one of those spots

Where Jerry Meyer thinks Reid Travis will end up (in addition to Gophers chances).

I thought in the end Reid doesn't really have the grades for Stanford?

He still has a Harvard offer. I've never heard grades being any sort of issue. He's said recently that he wants to get a degree in Entrepreneurship. I think there's a strong case to want to stay in the Twin Cities and make connections/expand on current connections for starting a business locally. Not to say he couldn't do the same in California.

I read a Yahoo article a couple years ago saying that Stanford produces the most millionaire entrepreneurs or something. I think the U has an entrepreneurship major, too.

Somewhere, Rick is smiling and thinking; "I raised one hell of a coach". Then he went straight to Louisville AD and said, "Get those damn Gophers on the schedule, I want to show my son who's boss."

lol

I don't think he wants a repeat of 2008!

Looks like he'd be a solid get if we can't land Reid.

I've always thought Stanford was a fairly likely destination for Reid. I imagine Jonah has told him that leaving his home state for college has worked for him.

What if Martin or Gueye want to commit before Travis makes his decision. What happens?

I think we'd probably take Martin since he is a 4-star top 100 recruit (according to ESPN). Gueye may have more of a contingent offer.

It would depend on the type of program he wants. Stanford's if more of an engineering degree looking into the science and development of tech companies. The U's program (my major for my degree) is hands on and is very helpful for making numerous local connections. Just a matter of perspective, but would have to be a consideration for him.

Seems like we really have some momentum going with this kid. Also interesting he is no where near our recruiting strongholds (Northeast and Minnesota/Midwest).

Ryan James (@RyanJamesMN) tweeted at 2:02 PM on Tue, Aug 06, 2013:Milik has NOT yet set up a Gopher visit for September 21st!*&^!# "Not right now I will be talking to the coach today to confirm on it," he said.

You rarely ever know if a guy is truly going to visit until his feet hit the ground on campus.

I was wondering if he was related to Vincent. Vincent was drafted (by the Nuggets?) but flamed out after a year or two.

If he's interested in a business related degree than don't sleep on UCLA. They have a highly ranked business school. Travis is already set for a visit later this month and they have a better basketball program if that's important to him.

I find it interesting that on this board you preach that any time a player says they are going to take a visit it isn't a forgone conclusion until they actually get on campus. Then earlier today you tweeted definitively that Yarbough was taking a visit to Minnesota in September (I think it was the 21st). Then almost immediately, numerous sources corrected you saying that there was no visit planned, only that he was going to talk to the coaches today about planning a visit. You should have followed your own advice. Haha

You're horribly mistaken. "Per @JHokanson, '14 Wing 6'5" Milik Yarbrough (Ill.) plans to visit #Gophers wknd of Sept 21." is what I said. Hokanson is the Rivals writer who said it. I simply said that he said it. Still might happen. Might not. Hokanson still said it.

"Tweeted definitively"? No. Get real.
