All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

Per Shama:

Marcus Fuller, the Pioneer Press Gophers basketball writer, said on 1500 ESPN Monday he believes Rashad Vaughn is the most likely to attend Minnesota of the 2014 prep big three of Tyus Jones, Travis Reid and Vaughn. My opinion: there is no better than a 25 percent chance the Gophers will have one of the three commit to Minnesota.

Why is it so hard for these media people to get Reid Travis name right? I would probably give them a little more credibility in some of their reports if they actually knew his name.

Yeah I don't understand the difficulty either. Hard to take people seriously when they don't even know his name.

Go Gophers!!

Man it's hard to tell a 3* from a 5* in these highlight videos, I get excited about everyone. Omega looks pretty quick and seems like he can get to the rim as well. Could be a nice player!

If Marcus puts our chances at 25% to land one of the Big 3, I say the odds are probably closer to 40 or 50%. He is the ultimate pessimist and frequently borders on troll.

It's so pathetic. I feel like they reverse it more often than they get it right.

Kind of wondering what the hold up is with Joseph. Many have said he's a Syracuse lean for a long time now, and with WVU and Providence being the other two schools, I'd think a Syracuse commitment would've happened by now. I wonder if they prefer Newton and are waiting on his decision before accepting Joseph's commitment?

Well he just trimmed his list down to 3 a few days ago. Assuming he'll take some visits then decide and most likely pick Syracuse.

Major move by 2014 PG Quentin Snider to re-open his recruitment from Louisville. He will be a hot commodity on the open market.

Ranked #31 on Rivals. Maybe Pitino will go after one of his father's ex-commits? It would be interesting at least...

Interesting. Rivals had him committed on 8/4/2011? That's a long time ago. I wonder if he's wide open as of now or if he has an idea of where he'd like to go instead.

That would definitely be interesting if little Richie goes after him! Quick observation if he committed in 2011, maybe Rich was the assistant that was recruiting him.

So it must have been rich that did all the recruiting work in the first place

For some reason this doesn't surprise me. Can't be many coaching staffs, if any, that are more active in recruiting right now. Gotta love it. Might not land him, but all this effort is going to pay divdends eventually.

Sounds like he has been contacted or offered by 25 different schools since he's opened up his recruitment tonight. So, don't get hopes too high. Interesting situation for sure tough. Who knows!

Somewhere, Rick is smiling and thinking; "I raised one hell of a coach". Then he went straight to Louisville AD and said, "Get those damn Gophers on the schedule, I want to show my son who's boss."

lol

I hope Rick coaches for a long time still. These father/son storylines will be fun to keep track of.

Seriously, he really is. It is absolutely incredible how many guys he's offered and how hard he busts his ass!
I love Richie too, and am loving this whole offer anyone and everyone, but I don't know if I believe that because he has offered all of these kids that he has "bust his ass" on each and everyone to the level we may think he has. He's definitely a volume shooter, kinda like his transfer Malik Smith.... He makes a lot of 3's because he takes a lot of threes.... and on the recruiting front, if we get a lot of 4 star recruits because we offer a lot of 4 star recruits, I'm ok with that.

The reason I believe he busts his ass is not just because he offers all them, but because we're also in a lot of their final 5 or 6!

ESPN Insider: Analyzing Syracuse's backcourt targets

Four days after the July evaluation period came to an end, we now have a lot more clarity when it comes to the top playmaking guards in the Northeast.

Point guard Kaleb Joseph (Nashua, N.H./Cushing Academy) cut his list to three over the weekend and shooting guard Isaiah Whitehead (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln) provided that his top three schools are Syracuse, UCLA and Arizona. Meanwhile, point guard Phil Booth (Baltimore, Md./Mount St. Joseph) pledged to Villanova on Tuesday and point guard Ja’Quan Newton (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) announced his top six on Wednesday.

With Booth off the board, the common denominator in all three remaining ESPN 100 recruitments is Syracuse. And while the Orange have been rumored to be a favorite for both Joseph and Whitehead, they now find themselves as the only local option for Newton now that Villanova has found its point guard in the 2014 class.

So now the question is: How many of these guys could potentially play together at Syracuse?

We now have so many names on our list with so many common competitors for these players that we are almost assured of getting a good PG. Someone with some mad computer/statistical skills oughta be able to put these lists together and figure out our chances under the assumption that each school only gets one PG. :)
