All Things 2014 Basketball Recruiting Thread

The reason I believe he busts his ass is not just because he offers all them, but because we're also in a lot of their final 5 or 6!

I would agree with that.... Still holding complete love fest until we ink 1 recruit.

Agreed. What people do have to understand though is that we don't need to ink the stars like Vaughn, Travis, Whitehead and Perkins (I left Tyus out for obvious reasons) to still land great players that will fit Pitinos system perfectly. Think about how many guys in that second category are still incredibly talented... Larrier (probably 1st category), Newton (probably 1st category) Nairn Jr., Robinson, Martin, Harris, Macura... I mean the list goes on and on with guys that would be great fits and that would come in and contribute right away. Obviously, we're a little short on PF / C offers, but that's what 2015 is for!

I'm just giddy that we might walk into a spring recruiting session working on the next years fall...... Rather than finding a stop gap JuCO to fill a roster spot and suck up a scholarship for 3 years....

might still happen, but I'm hoping for the best, especially with the volume of offers we have out there....

I must admit that I'm still a little nervous that volume doesn't always lead to success. Although a 3 for 25 by Malik Smith next year is quite a bit different than a 3 for 25 in the 2014 recruiting class. One question that I did have at this point in the recruiting process.....did we find ourselves on a lot of top 5 or 6 lists for out of state recruits (top 50 types) in the Tubby era? I'm not trying to Tubby-bash. I'm really trying to gauge how the Newton/Perkins lists should be viewed. As real progress or a wait and see approach.

We weren't in on many top 50 out of staters period and we were usually cut from their list when they got down to the top 5 or so. Two biggest out of state recruits we went after off the top of my head were Harrison Barnes (I think we made his top 10 but not his final list) and Cory Joseph.

per Zags:

“After three years of playing at the high school level and competing nationally in AAU in front of numerous amount of colleges, I’ve decided to cut my list down to five high-major schools,” Baldwin told SNY.tv. “They are Virginia Tech, Pitt, Vanderbit, Minnesota, and Rutgers. I plan on taking official visits to all schools in the near future.”

Go Gophers!!

I dont know the specifics of this recruiting battle but the competition isn't as elite as most other cases so seems like were in good position....another final list one of these has to go our way

are we to the point where we should post tweets/updates on big time recruits that we DON'T offer?

Seems like we are starting to offer players in the next tier of recruits. With that being said, I really like this Kuzma kid. Looks like he has a really good wingspan and seems to have a really good all around offensive game. Just needs to put on a bunch of weight.

Looks like Kuzma actually has a pretty solid offer list, especially for his low ranking.

Yes, this is an interesting one. Really tall kid that's shot up a lot over the past couple of years. Can he help out at a 4? Good shooter and great length. Some LNH notes Kuzma & his background are here, if interested.

PF Abdoulaye Gueye said today that Minnesota and Memphis are two schools he would like to visit.

I just want one of the Big 3....just one of them. Watching our three best MN kids in years all playing at others schools besides the U would be painful and embarrassing.

But not completely unexpected. Someone once posted that the vast majority of elite players leave their states for school, even when there's an elite program in their state. There would be no cause to be embarrassed.
