part of the issue, as I read the article, is that WV went from a 3-class system last year to a 4-class system this year, and it sounds as if the process has not gone smoothly.
The Wood County Board of Education filed the appeal on behalf of Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School and Williamstown High School. At issue was reclassification and the dates used to determine playoff points.
so as I read it, the beef is that teams were re-classified, but schedules were already set, so Team A could not adjust its schedule to try and earn more points in the playoff system. that allegedly put teams at a disadvantage, leading to the court cases. the analogy would be if MN moved a team from class 1A to AA, but that team had already set a 1A schedule, making it harder to accumulate playoff points.
