2024 MN High School Football thread

Are those 48 football commits or is that all sports? If the 48 is just football it wouldn't shock me if a good chunk of the other 40 are hockey, track or some other sport guys who will be doing that at the college level as opposed to football.
Believe it's just football.

HC took Pipestone to a couple Dome trips and now Kimball. Some coaches are just good at what they do.
Prior to Pipestone (2016 & 2017) he took Norwood Young America (Central) to the Prep Bowl (2002) as well as a Semi.

Prior to NYA he took LeCenter to the Prep Bowl (1999).

Still looking for his first Championship.

Weird question but are there many head coaches that are not members of the MFCA?
I don't have an answer but I know there are some issues with coaches who have schools that don't pay for memberships and they don't want to pay their own dime to be in it. From what I heard, most schools don't pay the membership fee for their coaches.

A friend of mine is a basketball coach at Kimball. I know their football program was terrible for a very long time. Good for them.
Kimball played in the state Class C football tournament in 1991. I don't know if that was a one off or part of a larger string of success. I suppose 31 years might qualify as a very long time if Kimball has been in the desert since then but 31 years doesn't seem all that long ago to me because apparently, I'm getting old.

Shaver on podcast said broken ankle and out for the season.
That's too bad. I haven't seen JCC play in person this year, but my recollection from last year is that the rest of the team is pretty solid as well. Hopefully they can still make some noise but losing arguably the best player in the state is a blow.

I assume he'll miss a good chunk, if not all of the basketball season as well. JCC should have been primed for a great season. A lot of size and athleticism. I saw somewhere that between Rudy and his older brother and sister, the siblings have combined for over 5,000 points, and Rudy still has two years of buckets to play, assuming he can play this season.

It’s like 25 dollars to join.

Seems like a lot moving around for jobs that don’t pay very much

In terms of salary, the earnings are relatively small for a HS football coach compared to other aspects in the Educational field.

I've known dozens of High School coaches. I can't think of any that were/are coaching their sport at a specific location for the salary from being a HC. Most are there because that's were their teaching and/or administrator job took them or where they (or their spouse/family) wanted to be.

True, but those other factors usually tie you to one location for long periods. Whereas you can see why high level college guys move around all the time. Because there is a possible pot of gold at the end of the journey.

It could be spouse jobs but I can’t think of a lot of jobs that take you to those locations.

I don’t doubt it is what you heard

But if the reason why your hometown team’s HC isn’t a member is the money….your HC is a cheapskate

There are other reason besides money I could respect.
I am not saying I agree or disagree with them but just relaying what I've heard.

They made national news for futility after 6 or 7 straight winless seasons. Really happy for that community that they got through that and now have a winner. They've been good for a few years now but always in the same section/conference with Eden Valley-Watkins which has also been really good.

Some guys love turning programs around. That's more of an accomplishment to many than taking a perennial power and continuing to win. Many coaches around the country are know as program flippers.

Plus Watkins has the Red Goat which is an excellent establishment

Listening to Shaver's podcast, he reported that Kimball has not been to state since '91.

Found this

It's really a shame you have to pay to watch these semi final games. A lot of good matchups in all classes with the new seeding format. Prep45 channel streams semi finals for state basketball and hockey. They even stream state hockey quarterfinal games. Not sure why they can't do the same for football at least for the semis.

They stream the others because they are on Live TV also. Anything that is not on LiveTV is paid for through streaming. $10 to watch all football state tournament games of your choice.

Very surprised the football tournament isn't broadcast like basketball and hockey tournaments are. Football rules the country as far as TV ratings go and its not close. Granted the Quarterfinals are all over the pace, but the semis are all at the bank making logistics easy to broadcast on 45

They can't make any money.
But, you can stream the semi's on NSPN tv. You will have to pay for it.

Very interesting and sad:
