2024 MN High School Football thread

Maple Grove 42-12 over Edina in a running time game.

Minnetonka 28-0 over Blaine. Blaine QB broke collarbone while driving Blaine to potentially tie the game at 7.
I've heard of quite a few QBs breaking collar bones this year. I'm far removed from moderm FB equipment. Are QBs wearing specialized shoulder pads or something?

With more and more cows being machine milked instead of hand milked, the milk has less calcium in it. Makes for brittle bones.

2A.

Staples Motley over Barnesville 46-42
Hatfield 23-22 over Triton

shouldn't the Hatfields be playing the McCoys?

I apologize. couldn't resist. I've probably made more typos than anyone in my career - but most of my copy was written for radio, so no one knew. when I would write up traffic accidents, I had a bad habit of writing that a car had a broken Windom (instead of window). If someone else was reading the copy, they were usually get mad at me if they read it cold without pre-reading it first....

Just trying to beat you to the punch and failed miserably.

13 games last night and only 3 were under a 3 score difference.

Springfield scored on a long pass with under 30 seconds to beat Goodhue 20-14.
Chatfield scored with 1 minute to play and made the ExP to win 23-22
Staples-Motley over Barnesville in 2OT. 46-44. Crazy that both teams went for 2 on every score.

Qbs have worn different style pads for a long time. But all the shoulder pads now are minuscule in size compared to just a few year back. Go look at highlights of Randy Moss, his shoulder pads would be the largest worn in an NFL game today.

They are still protective with the materials they are made from but I don't exactly think they are as protective as years gone by. Free movement and comfort are much preferred by a player than bulky protective gear.

Staples best WR is a very good kicker and they also have 1 more kid that can kick extra points as well. Was strange to see them not try kick an extra point.

Winners not surprising, scores were though.

This is why people shouldn’t necessarily rig the playoff system so some sections are seeded higher than others.

The current system put the third place team from the west in the same bracket as the first place team from the north. I thought Edina was a top 3 team in the state possibly going into the playoffs…but they earned a 3 seed. They shouldn’t jump a 1-2 seed from another section just because I think the west is better.

Maybe or maybe with less and less real football at practice kids don’t know how to roll into it and avoid the force while being tackled.

Freshmen QBs used to play both ways and get hit in practice even 10 years ago.

We have specialization of kids at QB and all the time playing non contact.
Collarbone injuries are usually freak injuries but when they are avoidable it is because you can roll into a hit to disperse the force to your whole body.

There are varsity QBs who haven’t been hit in a practice since 8th grade at the 6a level.

Are you saying Minnetonka and Shakopee were seeded wrong? Minnetonka was #1 from the West and opposite Edina and Shakopee.

or are you saying you like this system?

4A Semi Finals set with Cross Over Bracketing.

Marshall vs Becker at 10:30am Thursday at USBank
Orono vs Totino Grace at 11:30am on Friday TG beat Orono 11-8 back in week 7.

Looking forward to the Totino-Orono, don’t think the Becker Marshall game will be close unfortunately

Both Marshall and Becker blew out common opponents Willmar and Hutchinson. Becker looked to have a little easier time though.

I am not saying that. I am saying that some are saying that. But to rank Edina as a 2 over forest lake or anoka is purely subjective. So Edina being the 3 is fair. They beat the 2 from the south. They lost to the 1 and 2 from the west this year and the 1 from the north.

They made it to the round of 8.
They have 3 losses and lost in the round of 8. Maybe they’re the 4th best team this year, maybe they aren’t. But I think the current model is the fairest we can get for playoffs. There are greater tragedies in the world than the 4th best team losing in the round of 8 instead of the round of 4. Edina is somewhere between the 4th best and 7th best IMO

I'd say it's #1Maple Grove and #2 The Field and I think Shakopee is the only team that could beat them as they run similar to what Centennial does. Centennial gives MG really good games.

In the end there is one Champion.

Here were the last Rankings.

1, 2, 4, 5, 9, and unranked Anoka remaining

I'd say the way that 6A brackets is pretty successful and gets the best teams to the Bank. If Anoka and MV lose, you have 1, 2, 4, 5 at the Bank. Edina was ranked 3 but had a loss to a team behind them in Tonka. Tonka only had the extra loss because they drew MG in their cross over game. The rankings were more wrong than the seeding. Same with Forest Lake and Mounds View being ranked wrong in the final poll.

I think Anoka, Mounds View and Blaine are really good teams. We'll see what tonight says for two of them. I think the Tonka/Blaine game is completely different if the Blaine QB doesn't get hurt.

1.Maple Grove8-0-0
2.Shakopee7-1-0
3.Edina6-2-0
4.Lakeville North7-1-0
5.Minnetonka6-2-0

After blowouts last night.....6A getting a couple tight ones tonight. Looks like Shakopee and North both up 3 in the 4th quarter of their games.

Anoka 14-10
Shakopee 24-17

2 1’s and 2 2’s in the final 4.

Feels like a Maple Grove/Minnetonka rematch coming in the finals but Shakopee will most likely give Maple Grove a battle.
I think shakopee is the biggest challenger

I picked shakopee to win it. But then picked against them tonight.
They got a 17-0 lead and held on 24-17

Should be interesting. Haven't see Maple Grove in person but was extremely impressed by Shakopee when I saw them.

Hopefully they can give Maple Grove a battle.

I have not seen maple grove live

Hard to know how good they were because the north never crossed over with other three sections until week 8

They clearly are the favorite after their week 8 game.
I personally would pick Edina and shakopee over Minnetonka.
MG already crushed Edina. So I feel it’s shakopee or MG for the title
