2024-25 Gopher Hockey Season

I've been up at the Ralph numerous times and for playoff games (back in the WCHA days) against them. Don't get me wrong, it would be loud, but It's lost a substantial amount of the rowdiness. Maybe they'd bring in some dead Gophers again like they used to, but it seems those days are past.

Personally I'd love it if they did get rowdy as I think it would only play to our advantage as they're an extremely undisciplined team that takes the 3rd most penalty minutes/game
They really brought in real dead gophers?!?

sure did. think the NYT or someone had an article on it as well.

some people (I would presume these are the stuffed ones, but they're und fans so who knows) would also put them on nooses and hold them like they were hanging them.

Heres the article

from the same weekend blood pushed rau in the handshake line like the loser he is

Ya the level of crazy has come down because of the wussification of society + not being in the same conference + the younger generations coming up aren't interested in sports as much overall.

But they are still the craziest fanbase cuz they have nothing else to do or be proud of. So it's all relative.

Since 1/18, Souliere has started or played in (one relief effort) in all nine games. His save percentage is 0.895 in that time.

Not good.

take out the MSU game the team entirely gave up on and looked like shit from front to back and just do the games he started and it's .921 with 1 PPG given up. He's also 4-2-2 with the only 2 losses coming in overtime.

I don't think he's a great goalie and yeah I'd rather have Fowler or Augustine, but he is more than good enough to win the title behind this team and he has stolen a game against a team who may end up in the field (PSU) so he does have the ability to rise to the occasion

I thought about excluding that game but my napkin math didn't think it would have that much of an impact. If it's .921 in the last 8 he started, ya that's good enough.

that .73 night-->no bueno

He's been really good in the 2nd half so far in games he's started

6-2-2 with only losses in OT, .927 Sv%, shade less than 2.2GA/g

Speaking of goaltending I wonder if Barto would have any interest in transferring back for next season. He's putting up solid numbers for a terrible Lindenwood team.

That never happens and we need something better. They need both a young goalie commit of the future (Wendt) AND a stud portal/CHL goalie to take the job from Airey.

Goalie is absolutely somewhere they should be poaching the aha or ccha for someone who’s incredibly solid for next year. No excuse not to. I wouldn’t be surprised if Barto was interested but he’s not the definition of what they should be aiming ay

Goalie talk reminds me a bit of the Gophers championship team of 2001-2002. Adam Hauser was a good, but not great, goalie for them. Thought that the Gophers would advance as far as Hauser could take them - turned out to be just enough....

And on the flip side that could be the #1 reason for no title since 2003. The goalie recruiting has been unacceptable for a program like this.

Interesting exercise for someone, look back at the national champs thru the years. Did they all have a great, steal you a game goalie? I don’t have the time to do it but it would be interesting to see.

They definitely don't all have it. What I would check is winning goalie and the number of NHL and AHL games they played. Then we can compare that to the goalies that have come through the U. Maybe I'll take a look at that today.

Nothing too shocking here. The Gophers were out-goalied by the champs 6 of the last 10 times. They win the 2014 and 2021 comparison, and two are a tie or still TBD. The Lafontaine one is only a win because of his two NHL games when they just needed a warm body back there.

Obviously the Gophers should have won in 2023 but 2014 was also a big choke given they actually had a great goalie in Wilcox.

i mean you're counting Perets over Close for the exact same reason (Perets has 2 NHL games in the same organization, Carolina, who just needed a warm body).

That 2014 team is a painful one for sure and a bizarrely called game that really made it advantageous for Union in terms for game flow with 13 penalties called (only one pair of coincidentals) for 26 min and Union on the PP 7 times. Made it much easier for Gostisbehere to play so many minutes (and he ended up a +7 on the day).

That said, we would ideally recruit better at goalie (or bring in more mercenary kind of guys via the portal). They log so many minutes and can entirely change a team's construction.

Big drafted CHL goalie commits to DU along with other big CHL impact players. Sick of nothing from the Gophers.

Do you wake up every day looking for something to complain about? The Gophers are currently 2nd in the polls, 3rd in the pairwise, and on top of the B1G. For most, life is good and they are enjoying the season. For you, Bob or any Gopher coach will never get every recruit that you want them to get. I kind of feel sorry for you that you can't enjoy life and watching the Gophers. You could always buy tickets to the NCHC tourney at the X in a couple of weeks. Maybe that will make you smile.

I agree, it's been 6 months since the window opened. I'm really surprised they have not had a single recruit. Lots of high end guys have already committed elsewhere. And of course, the goalie situation for the future is not looking good.

Commitments since 1/1/24:
UMN: 2 (0 2008, 0 CHL)

PSU: 14 (7 2008, 3 CHL)
MSU: 12 (5 2008, 0 CHL)
uw: 11 (2 2008, 2 CHL)
OSU: 8 (2 2008, 1 CHL)
UM: 7 (5 2008, 1 now CHL with 2 more likely to head there)
ND: 7 (4 2008, 3 CHL)

Bonin is insufferable. Swear he pisses in his own cereal every morning to ensure a bad taste in his mouth.

I'll be mostly insufferable until they hang the only banner that actually matters. 22 years and only having 5 is unacceptable if you want to be one of the big guys in the sport.

What a shift from the “4th” line. Man do they work and put in effort every-time on the ice.
