12/27 - Rashad Vaughn will NOT attend the U

Love Vaughn, but given that we know he isn't making his decision until next April, anything he says (or even thinks) right now is likely to have little relevance. Wake me up next February or March on the Vaughn recruitment.
 

I don't like waiting for spring signings.

Hell, I just don't like waiting.
 


MN RP has to display a style of play attractive to many of our top in and out of state recruits to convince them what the gophers offer is real not lip service. While I'd love an early commitment from Vaughn, you can't blame him for waiting. I could argue his patience is a positive sign. RP will just keep working the phones in the meantime.
 


My only worry is that waiting until spring will mean that Rashad will be among the hottest commodities on the market. It's the same thing we saw with the Wiggins kid this past spring (though I'm not trying to say that Rashad == Wiggins). I just worry that it will come down to a whole lot of press covering whether Rashad will choose Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, or....Minnesota. Will we end up playing the part of Florida State in this year's iteration of the decision?

Though having a successful season would surely help keep us in play.

Yep. Have seen kids say they are going to wait til the spring and then commit in the fall. Hard to be surprised by anything in recruiting because situations can be so fluid and change in a moment's notice.

Has he already said he won't be taking an official to MN because he's spent so much time on campus already? I feel like I remember reading that somewhere, but can't find it. It will be interesting to see where he goes in any case; should give us a better idea of the early favorites.

I think there have been different reports at different times on whether MN may get an official.

While he's been to campus many times, I would think he'd consider an official ... it would give him a free trip home this fall.
 

According to Darren Wolfson, Vaughn will not be taking an official to the U.
 

He has said he will not take officials to Minnesota, ISU, and UNLV. He has been to Minnesota and ISU mulitiple times and he will be able to UNLV anytime he wants this year while in Las Vegas. He is still planning to visit Minnesota and ISU during the season.
 

Ever since he announced his top 11 I've assumed we wouldn't get one. He obviously is still pretty wide open otherwise he would have cut his list more. No need to waste a visit on us if he is considering that many teams.

For those who don't want to follow the link:

Asked if Iowa State will make his top 5 and Vaughn says he'll go out on a limb and say ISU WILL make his top 5.
 

Rashad Vaughn has his choice of schools. If he goes to NC, he will be just "another" great player who has gone there. If he attends the Univ. of Kentucky, he also will be just "another" great player who has gone there. If Rashad would commit to his hometown state school, the University of Minnesota, he would become a legend! Rashad, why just become another player, commit to the U of M and become a LEGEND!

Agreed. Love the start. A motivational post for Vaughn, Jones, Travis, and Illikainen. Curious to know what he thinks of Macura...

Pretty sure he's talking about Pete Kaffey. Kaffey is Vaughn's mentor.

FWIW, my loyalty comment about Pitino still stand lol I have heard that from others. Even if Vaughn wasn't talking about him specifically.
 

Pitino seems to be pretty loyal to Kimani Young who he had to vouch for a bit when the U investigated Young's sketchy past.
