All Things Jashon Cornell Thread: Cornell commits to Ohio St

I looked for info on this kid through the thread and found none....

Chances of us getting him slim to none?

The article you listed is from july 19th did you possibly post the wrong one?

oops, thats embarrassing, i found the article threw a quick google search and thought he was talking about this weekend since of course Stelter, Ragnow and Jones actually did visit this weekend.

Interesting that Cornell is only ranked #76 on the latest 2015 rivals list. #1 on ESPN, and now #76 on Rivals? Did he have a down season? Did he underwhelm at camps? Oh well, I'd rather have him be under hyped and end up in Maroon and Gold!

http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3370/2015

He's actually very overhyped. Has offers from almost every school in the Big 10 with some SEC and Big 12 sprinkled in. Rivals has it right. No idea what ESPN is smoking.

Blasphemy!

Interesting that @FloridaBound10 is an account that is already suspended.

Not that interesting, just a buddy that Jeff met at a camp that happens to be committed to Florida

apparently he sat in the student section, that type of atmosphere and environment certainly doesn't hurt

Oh wow nice. Didn't know that, would have figured he'd be behind the bench or something. Being in the student section at the Barn for a big game is always a great time. Definitely miss it.

Cornell talked to Josh Helmholdt here are some of the quotes on Iowa and MN visits

"It feels like home. It's just like Minnesota without the city life," Cornell said. "The people there treat you like you are an NFL player already because they don't have an NFL team."

Saturday's trip was actually Cornell's second of the weekend to a Big Ten program. He spent time Friday night at the University of Minnesota basketball game.

"At the basketball game I got to talk to some of the players I knew from before being on the campus, then I have some old schoolmates up there," he said. "I sat with Connor Rhoda and some other players. Coach Phelps was gone, so I was really just I didn't really get a chance to hang out with him. I was really just going up there for a game, just to check out the basketball game.

"They are telling me I can be that hometown hero, be that true freshman that plays and I can make a difference."

Charley Walters: Cretin-Derham Hall's Jashon Cornell takes recruiting center stage

The recruiting interest in Cornell is expected to be even more frenzied than it was four years ago when virtually every big-time program in America sought Cretin-Derham Hall offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson, the 6-7, 331-pound offensive tackle who chose Miami but floundered somewhat and is expected to be a middle-round pick in May's NFL draft.

Cornell, who has no current favorite for college, is a good student with a quiet demeanor and is focused on school and football. In an effort to avoid a recruiting circus, his coaches have encouraged him this summer to choose 10 schools for consideration and tell the others thanks for their interest, but no thanks.

Go Gophers!!

STrib article on 2015 recruiting:

The last time a Minnesota football player was ranked in the top 30 by at least one of these recruiting services came in 2010, with Henderson. He signed with USC before changing his mind and going to Miami (Fla.). He’s projected to be a middle-round pick in this year’s NFL draft.

“[Cornell is] more of a harder worker than Seantrel Henderson, who’s disappointed me,” Lemming said. “I had [Henderson] as the No. 1 player in the country, and he’ll probably be a better pro than college player, once the money starts coming in.”

Cornell is a good student, so academics won’t be an issue. His coaches at Cretin-Derham Hall have suggested he trim his list to about 10 schools before football starts.

Cornell, who could not be reached to comment for this story, has told ESPN.com that the Gophers are a “real contender” to get him. They might not have had a chance in previous years, but Kill’s teams have improved from 3-9 to 6-7 to 8-5.

Go Gophers!!

As long as we are in there till the end I'll be happy.

Being in it till the end is not good enough. The only way we make the next step is to get these higher ranked players. No reason for this not to happen. Real em in Jerry. It't time to tailgate in Pasadena.

Isn't Jones pretty close to Cornell? That is another reason we really need to hope Jones qualifies, he could be a huge help in our recruitment of Cornell.

Getting Ragnow would have helped a lot too, he is just as close with him as jeff. Hopefully he has a strong relationship with Connor Rhoda as well.

Minnesota's best are better then we think (we just don't have enough). Cornell should really shine!

Josh Hemboldt of rivals in recent article states Jashon, Justin Hilliard and Malik Jefferson from Texas are very close and often talk about playing for same school. Hillard and Jashon in particular talk often about taking official visits together. Hillard and Jefferson = Top 50 6.0 rival prospects. Look for ND, Michigan and Oklahoma to be major players with Ohio State on the outside looking in at the moment. Hillard plans early commitment during school year to help recruit well before signing day hits. Cornell will give hometown team a look, obviously. Over and out.
