All Things TV Series Recommendations/Reviews

WL season 3 finale tonight ... who's gonna bite the dust??

Didn't love the finale.....but the season as a whole was great. All the separate story lines were solid. No wasted characters. The slow burn build up was effective throughout. Acting was great. Parky Posey was so good. This is what dark comedy should be.

And if you guys don't know who writer/creator Mike White is.......

He's written a lot of stuff (including School of Rock). Created/wrote the SUPER underrated HBO show 'Enlightened' (which sadly only got two seasons) as well.

Hot Dog! The first episode of the second season of 'The Rehearsal' was a great setup for some Fielder Method hijinks.

Brilliant second episode. May be the best thing Fielder's ever done. Guy is an artist and a madman.

Edit (post episode three): Give Nathan Fielder ALL OF THE EMMYS

MobLand is so freaking good. My only complaint is that the episodes are too short.
(MTV sure produces a lot of series.)

My wife liked Suits LA, which she just told me was cut. I enjoyed it too. Such is the life of a TV series.

I appear to be on a cold streak.

Watched "Anatomy of a Scandal" on Netflix last night, with Rupert Friend. Decent reviews, at least some actors that have some chops. In my opinion, it was not good. Like really not good at all. The "surprise twist" towards the end was just plain stupid, not believable at all, and while it had promise through a fair amount of it, to me it fell flat on its face wrapping things up. Not good

Not sure if any HBO folks stuck around to watch The Pitt.

To me, really good TV has three ingredients: very well done (production, acting, writing, etc.), entertaining, and an escape from everyday reality.

This show has the first in spades. Very well done, and they deserve awards.

But man, it is brutal to watch.
Finished episode 8 (out of 15). Man. The little girl. If you know you know. I just don't think I can keep watching. That really sucked my will to finish the series. We know that the real world is a terrible place. I don't need to have it shoved in my face on my TV.

Anyone care to talk me into finishing it?

Just finished watching Adolescence on Netflix. It's only four episodes and it's emotionally brutal but incredibly well written, acted and directed. The kind of show that stays with you for a while.

On the lighter side, my wife and I have gotten into watching Korean dramas (really kind of soap operas). It's her fault. After the first episode of the first series I told her this was the dumbest thing I'd ever seen, I'm out. After the 14th episode I'm going, "She can't die! She can't die." The two we've watched are Crash Landing on You and Dr. Romantic. They actually are really well done, in a Korean kind of style. Obviously, the series have subtitles. My Korean is a little rusty. :)

Keep watching...

The drama just gets more intense as the season goes on. Anything I say will spoil it for you, but there will be a payoff at the end.

Bold: guessing you've seen it already, but for some reason if you haven't Extraordinary Attorney Woo is quirky and very entertaining.

I’ve seen them all including the 1st season of Bosch Legacy which is a continuation of Bosch.

It’s not a show that’ll blow you away or anything but overall a really good detective show.

Just out of pure boredom, I've plowed through a ton of Bosch seasons again in the last week or two and it's just a really, really good show. Titus Welliver does a fantastic job of playing the Bosch character that Connelly depicts in his books.

Now that the Bosch: Legacy series is over, they are going to be starting the next continuation very shortly: "Ballard", the Renee Ballard character that appears later in the Bosch books, and she's being played by Maggie Q (who doesn't love Maggie Q?!) so I'm looking forward to how that plays out. (Starts July 9 already I guess)

Despite the fact that Connelly wrote at least five books that featured both Bosch and Ballard, a quick check of the casting shows that Bosch only appears in ONE episode of the first season of Ballard. Hmmmm...

Lastly, going through the older seasons also was a glaring reminder just how good of an actor (or at least role player) Lance Reddick was (RIP, Lance). His role as the Asst Chief and then Police Chief is very, very good. He left us way too soon.

Loved Reddick's character in the John Wick series. Since his passing, I'm amazed at how many supporting roles of his that I've come across.

Excellent show. Heads up.....even slight spoilers should either be tagged
like so
or left out of your post. Not a huge deal, but I just finished episode 8 and basically knew what to expect ahead of time.

Apologies, post edited to add the spoiler.

I have not gotten back to watching it. But I will try

Not a huge deal. Just a note for future posts.

And yeah.....keep watching. Worth it.

Also....if you're interested in other medical dramas....'The Knick' (which was a Cinemax show like 10 years back) is fantastic. Only two seasons.....but one of the best shows of all time....imo.

We managed to plow through the entire series of "The Waterfront" on Netflix over the weekend. It was pretty graphic, between all the scenes or mentions of infidelity and the killing scenes were pretty graphic but overall we liked it. The cast was pretty decent and it kept us watching. Not sure where I'd give it on the stars ranking or recommendation. Maybe 3.5-4 stars out of 5, or a 1.5 thumbs up out of 2?

I saw they're already filming season 2 (of The Pitt)
