All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Its actually remarkable how good our starters have been.

Not only are they pitching well this year, but they are doing so with the mental knowledge that giving up 1-2 runs is most likely an L

While not accurate that giving up 1-2 runs is "most likely an L" as Twins starters are 7-5 and the Team 11-9 including No Decisions, I do agree with the sentiment that the starters have been really good. Giving up only 1-2 runs should be less dicey than that, especially when going at least 6 innings.

Something in the 13-14 win range would be what I expect.

I did this manually, so if anyone wants to quality check, have at it. I included the Maeda & Mahle games in which they were pulled for injury since they are essentially a wash.

I mean thats a hyperbole statment.

11-9 is an awful record when giving up 2 runs or fewer haha.

Also off the premise I would mean it as with our offense(and how bad it is) youd expect most pitchers to implode when giving up 2 runs. But our guys have consistnetly held it down.

Hope I dont jinx it but Gray/Ryan/Ober have yet to even have a true clunker between the 3 of them. Thats wild.

Yes, I assumed it was hyperbole, but I expected the record to be better when they did give up only 1 or 2 runs and it is a tribute to the starters so far. Turned out it wasn't much of an exaggeration.

I didn't include the lights out performances (no runs) which does improve the overall record 16-10 when giving up 3 or less (I think). I know there was 1 ND-loss. I might be off 1 win, I failed to keep track.

Dang, Ope! You REALLY are a numbers guy! :ROFLMAO:

I think its pretty big that we win 2/3 this weekend to truly get some momentum back.

A 6 game west coast trip looms next. With the Dodgers always being a nightmare to play. And there is a chance Ohtani pitches the 3rd game of the Angels series.

We got Gray and Ryan starting off this series. Which is how we should want it.

reminder - tonight's Twins game is another Apple TV+ exclusive.

I think you can still sign up for a free trial. Just have to remember to cancel before they start charging your credit card. there is one more A+ game in June.

Yes, losing 2 out of 3 to the Sox was rough and the Cleveland beat both Ryan and Gray. Not a good road trip.
Would be nice to get some mojo back

Friendly addition -

Patrick Wisdom’s efforts at third make Miranda look like the second coming of Brooks Robinson
As dontrelle said that’s why they call it the hot corner.

This offense is just so inept right now. Buxton is clearly trying to hit homers on every swing. he has missed some honey of spinners tonight and just popped them up.

As I’ve said before I just can’t do Alcala anymore. The guy just doesn’t have it. We escaped the 8th and it’s still a 1 run game. Not sure why he’s trusted to go out in the 9th and now the game is over.

Of course the offense could score more runs, cause it’s gonna be tough to win games scoring 3 a night.

Giving a game away happens.
I'd just prefer it didn't happen when the stands are full of dickhead Cubs fans.

I don’t get how they’ve been using him. Only twice has he thrown less than 20 pitches in an outing. Lots of multiple inning outings.

The problem with being inept on offense and very good at starting rotation pitching is you are guarantying close games. That means ever arm in the bullpen is important as the twins just don’t play in blowouts. You can’t save two arms in the pen just for use in 5 or 6 run games. Every guy better be able to go out and get the job done. Right now they are 3 guys that are sure things in the pen and then question marks.

I think they we’re trying to figure out if Alcala is one of those guys - I’ll be surprised if he isn’t sent down/DFA (not sure what his status is) and someone like Jordan Balcorvic or Funkmeister is called up forthwith.

Things I never saw coming; as the Twins struggle mightily offensively, Brent Rooker murders a ball for his 11th HR to walk off Texas.

No one did, so don’t feel bad.

He’s doing it for a crappy team who took a flyer on him by signing him to a minor league deal and telling him he’d get a camp invite IIRC.
No good teams were interested and it will be interesting to see if he made a quantum leap or regresses to his prior non lofty status in the second half.
There’s a Shane Spencer every few years - a one time Yankee wunderkind who faded back into oblivion after a similar meteoric rise.

3 sure things??????

Buxton is on another like 0/30 stretch.

Think he had one last year.

The guy is not valuable as a DH hes not that good of a hitter. Remember when people hated Sano?? We have basically transformed Buxton into Sano 2.0

Could be worse, we could be the Mets right now. Already down 4-0 to the Reds and under .500 after all the money they've spent. Miami has a better record than them and the Phillies.

Lots of weird stuff happening so far, Arizona has a better record than San Deigo. The Tigers are in 2nd place. Pittsburgh is still in 1st (although really struggling). The Cardinals are one of the worst teams so far.

Wake me up in August when the standings actually start to matter.
