All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Good signs from Kiriloff, Kepler and Correa, though the double was a bad look.

Gallo and Vazquez are absolutely hopeless at the plate right now. Gallo needs a mental break on the DL and Jeffers should be catching 2/3 of the time instead of the other way around.

I really liked the lineup yesterday, at least at the top. Even when Buxton is struggling, he’s still walking a good amount.

I didn't see the game yesterday. What was a bad look?

See below more detail on Royce’s timeline to return to the field; hopefully this allays any concerns that he is decomposing in Wichita what a horrible way to go) or in St. Paul ( could funeral services be held at 🎯 field?).

Royce Lewis is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A Wichita, the biggest step yet in his lengthy recovery from a second torn ACL. He’s expected to split time between third base and shortstop on the rehab stint that can last a maximum of 20 days, which means the 23-year-old former No. 1 pick could work his way back into the Twins’ plans by early next month.

He stood at the plate and admired his home run. Except it didn't leave the field. Hit off the fence.
Correa compounded the bad look by eventually getting thrown out at the plate to end the inning. I was listening to the game on the driving range, but Gladden made it sound like he was trying to make up for the previous mental error.

I don't know if he was waved in from 3rd.

As Mr. Rooney said “9 times”. That’s how many starts he made.

This injury went from a couple of starts, to the 60 day, to never pitching in the twins organization again. That’s why when anyone with the twins talks about injuries you have to ask why they are lying to me.

Not sure if he was waved, but we was letting up when he got to 3rd and then hit the gas again.

Sooooooo. I am absolutely not complaining at the present time.

But what was all this talk about AK being in minors still partially cause he was struggling to play full games and back to backs?? That was like 1 week ago.

Hes in the lineup today. For the 3rd straight day(4th straight game but Monday off day). Really hope this isnt an AK injury jinx. But yeah seems like he was in the minors for absolutely no reason.

When he was eligible to return to the majors after his rehab stint and optioned, guys like Miranda were hitting putrid at that time as well.

Also, saw an article stating "twins plan to be buyers well before deadline" talking like making June type moves. Ill believe that when I see it. But man I hope its true.

Like as much as someone like Miranda needed to go down. We replaced him with a journeyman in Farmer

Just saw the Mahle news. Called it when he left the start.

Another brutal trade. Taking on a dude with arm issues.

As Ron Burgundy famously said, "That escalated rather quickly."

I get what you are saying about the Twins when talking about injuries, but it was also Mahle himself that was downplaying it right after the game. Maybe he was being let down gently by the medical staff.

Just perplexing.

But all is not lost they still have Chris Paddock under team control.

When his rehab was officially done he was having a hard time playing back to back days. Just prior to his call up he was able to play back to back days. Played 3 games in a row for the first time just before his call up.

Was the wind blowing in last night? The Farmer one down the line had a much further projected distance too.

Not really. There was a S/SE wind at less than 10 mph, which would be a light cross wind or slightly in from right.

The Farmer one would have been a HR in every park except for at Target Field.

Correct. As recently as April 21 he was pulled in the middle of a game with what was presumed a wrist issue.

Plus it's warmer now, have to think the helps at least somewhat.

Yeah I saw that too but there's no way that's a HR in Baltimore if it isn't at Target Field.

I believe the would it dong sight uses the angle and velocity to predict how far it's expected to travel but doesn't take into account wind so it was just weird to see that. Maybe it was a dud ball or something that didn't travel as far as it normally should have.

Could be worse, we could be the Mets right now. Already down 4-0 to the Reds and under .500 after all the money they've spent. Miami has a better record than them and the Phillies.

Lots of weird stuff happening so far, Arizona has a better record than San Deigo. The Tigers are in 2nd place. Pittsburgh is still in 1st (although really struggling). The Cardinals are one of the worst teams so far.

Yup, I've gotta eat that one. I loved Mahle's potential, his pitch makeup and mentality. Thought he could blossom into a legit top of rotation guy. But he already had injury concerns when they made the deal.
I had less problem with the Mahle trade than Paddock. Anyone could see the Paddock TJS coming a mile away and it just wasn't a necessary trade to make on Opening Day. Mahle filled a need at the trade deadline and the return wasn't unreasonable. But they should have had their antenna up on medical issues given they just got burned 3 months earlier.

Even Maeda, while it didn't happen for a year and a half after the deal with the Dodgers, they only got 33 starts out of him before he had TJ surgery.

At least the abbreviated campaign in 2020, he was really good.

Technically, but the 12 starts in 2020 count the same as 30 in a regular season. He was the ace of a play-off team.

True, but if he had to start 30 in 2020 he likely would have broke down earlier (in terms of the calendar).

I really hope it was somebody else that evaluated the Pablo Lopez medical charts.

The same staff who told us three weeks ago Mahle might not even miss a start evaluated them. Nothing to worry about I'm sure.
