All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

We cannot continue with this offense as it stands. Either fire the hitting coach or swap out about 5 guys. This is fucking embarrasing. Buxton on a 0/21. Correa is awful.

We have two of the worst catchers in baseball

2nd inning. Another great AB by AK(take notes vets) and polanco bloops one. 1st and 2nd no outs. We proceed to score 1 run by virtue of a Hbp and Gallo walk.

The 3 outs. Gordon(didnt advance either guy). Jeffers bases loaded 1 out(K without even swinging one time), Buxton 2 outs bases juiced(K on 3 pitches).

Like this lineup doesnt just suck. They are doing it in the worst possible way.

As a team they are now 4/30 with bases loaded. ZERO extra base hits. That should literally not even be a possible team statistic.

Bases loaded 1 out and they go strike out looking and strike out. As much as people clammer that outs are outs and strikeouts don’t matter, they sure the hell do when a flu ball scores a run.

Online it shows Jeffers didn't even swing the bat in his PA.

Dude it was a strike out looking where jeffers never swung the bat in the entire AB. And buxton struck out on 3 pitches, swinging at 2 balls.

Now in the 3rd. Darvish fresh off a 27 pitch inning. Kepler and Correa go down on 3 pitches. The veterans on this team have no fucking clue what they are doing. Correa has to lead the league in weak ground outs/fly outs on 1-0 pitches.

Work a goddamn count.

Its actually remarkable how good our starters have been.

Not only are they pitching well this year, but they are doing so with the mental knowledge that giving up 1-2 runs is most likely an L

Does my covid shot protect me from flu ball?

Maybe Farmer is a Miranda upgrade after all.

That was a niiiiiiiiiice swing.

After Paddack and Mahle, hopefully we've learned our lesson about buying damaged goods. Steer just hit another homer.

Catcher is super annoying. They have absolutely nothing in the minors. Which is why they should have focused on making a run at Murphy or trying to acquire one of the Contreras brothers.

I know Vazquez is a guy that is considered a really good game caller. But he's got to be able to hit a bit better than he has, that's for sure.

Other than the Boston outing, Pagan has actually been pretty good so far.

*ducks*

Kepler up with bases loaded. I'm calling it : 4-6-3.
Kepler actually really helped the situation by making sure the bases weren't loaded but not ending the inning. Bases no longer loaded, Correa comes through.

Just got in to see Carlos answer the Bell 🛎️. I wonder is his valuation has changed?

This is the type of series which could catapult the Twins moving forward the rest of the season.

Yep. Bases loaded is the death of us. Have seen Kepler ground out to the right side so many times over the last few yrs that felt the 4-6-3 was a reasonable guess

Interesting. Gonna let Stewart pitch. Lopez is ready.

Yes baby, yes, yes.

Duran threw 2 innings last night, so maybe Lopez closes today . We’ve got 6 more in a row after today , before the next off day.

Just looked at the standings. AL East is ridiculous. We'd be in last place 8.5 games out, and feeling a lot worse about our season's prospects. AL West more our speed. We'd be second place 2.5 games out.

Lopez makes me nervous. Hard to admit it, but almost feel better about Pagan at this point.

Have to give Correa his props. It was just one but that was a big time hit. RISP and late.

Great win and a needed series win

I firmly believe its a Mauer curse

So many "Twins" fans who dont know ball complained about that guy for so long(I know a lot was after he even played catcher) that now believe we are destined to never have a good one again.

Garver did have 1 huge year but it was clearly a fluke and we doubled down by trading him for mehhhhhh anyways.

any day the Wallendas do not fall off the tightrope is a good day.

Hope the weather holds out this weekend. with the Cubbies in town, I saw a tweet that the Twins are expecting attendance of 30,000+ for all three games.

no question the Twins have a bunch of streaky hitters. just have to hope that they all somehow manage to get on a hot streak at the same time.

and next week the West Coast road trip. at least with the speed-up rules, some of those games might get over before Midnight CDT.

Yep, with our starting rotation, 5 runs of support will take us a long way.

Second in team ERA to Tampa, 3.29 vs. 2.95.

Our hitting just needs to get up to around .240 and we’ll be lethal IMO, .245 is ~ the median at this juncture. Granted there’s serious work to be done to get there, but since we’re only ~a quarter of the way through the schedule, it’s still doable. Halfway through the season, too big a hole 🕳️ to climb out of.

It’s exciting to me, that our pitching is the strength of the team, as it routinely beats good hitting in my experience, especially in the postseason. Much better fundamental approach tgan the Bomba Brothers era.
