All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Pagan, Moran, Alcala. Back of our bullpen's been sketchy.

We have very elite front end pitching.

Back end of bullpen very sketchy. Back end of rotation shaky with injuries and production. Ober needs his time.

I posted regarding Coulombe earlier and got some pushback, but I really don't understand why we didn't keep him. He was excellent in spring training and has been excellent with the orioles.

If winder is brought up soon will be interesting who is sent down. There are a few candidates. Headrick may have a chance to stay with the big club longer than he might think.

Interesting. Amazing that nothing happened to German from the Yankees.

I watched it live and when Showalter was interviewed after the game he said it’s the same ump whose ejected all three pitchers whi have been flagged for this; he gave a great eye roll to express that ump is a____.

Yeah it’s Phil Cuzzi. He’s a jackass, but so many of them are. I don’t know about him throwing out all the pitchers with stuff on their hands, but he’s the ump that called Joe Mauers double in yankee stadium foul in 2009.

Perfect timing- a UTUBE short on Country Joe West

Still one of the worst calls ever.

Already down by 5. Pagan surprisingly not the long-relief answer.
The Pagan experiment needs to end. He never should have been tendered a contract for this year. $4 million for trash. All because of Falvey's ego.

By back end I mean the back end of the pecking order

Obviously Duran, Jax, Lopez is a elite 3 with Thielbar as a lefty weapon.
I got you misunderstanding of the post. Yea the top 3 starters are good, the last 3 out of the bullpen are good. It’s the other 5 that are not brilliant.

Gotta sweep this weekend. Need Mahle to have a nice night tonight.

Tomorrow we have Lopez going. And Sunday the Nats are scheduled to throw Corbin. So those are must wins.

10- game homestand featuring two of the worst teams in MLB. At least 7 wins should be expected.

There aren't any games in July that are must win either.

Every game counts the same. Literally. Every single one.

To be a playoff team you have to beat teams like Washington especially with outrageous pitching edges in game 2 and 3.

Theres actually a common saying in baseball, "You cant win the division in April but you can lose it". Saturday and Sunday are must win game baseball games for a contender.

That, and with the injury history under this regime, 80% of the roster is likely to be on the IL by July. Make hay while the sun shines (although that saying isn't really appropriate in this gloomy wasteland).

Even with the worst MLB record last year Washington still won 55 games. Several were against teams that still qualified for the postseason. Somehow the Astros overcame a loss to the Nats in May to win the American League and eventually the World Series.

Right. Every game counts. So individual games aren't must win unless maybe it's September.

They should win at least 2 of 3 for sure. But losing a weekend game doesn't diminish their chances of winning the division.

The Cleveland Guardians were 4 games above .500 on September 4th last year and then ran away with the division in September. Ridiculous to suggest any games in April are must win.

A really good target in my mind is to finish 4 games above .500 each month. At that point you are 24 games above .500 at the end of the year and clearly in contention for the playoffs. If the Twins finish this homestand 6-4. they would have had a successful April in my view and 5 games above .500.

Morneau was ruminating last year on a telecast about the season where they won 101 games and how they were scuffling at round the .500 mark and then after the All-Star break they went on to win every series or only lost one (IIRC) and then ended up at the aforementioned 101 Ws.

It’s a loooooooooooong season.

Polanco and SWR to the twins
Julien and Alcala to the saints

Woods-Richardson is interesting. I saw a lot of speculation that Bailey Ober would come up and start a game in the Washington series.

I suppose that depends on Maeda's situation - and on the weather. Forecast for tonight in Mpls is a rain/snow mix with a low of 32. I would not be shocked if they wind up playing a DH on Saturday.

Seems like if they were going to postpone tonight, they'd have done it by now.
