All Things 2023 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Great game.

Got Gallo back instant impact. Julien in middle of the order. Kepler better ABs. Larnach being rewarded finally for all his lengthy ABs.

Biggest thing, saved the bullpen. Now we can use all the weapons tomorrow with Maeda on the mound and no clue how many innings he can give.

Yes, very impressive. Gray has also been stellar.
Glad u didn't include any hitting stats 😬. Although yesterday helped with that.

I assume that when catcher's interference was called, the players including Solano thought it was a dead ball. I've been watching baseball for almost 60 years and I did not know that rule. Just talked to a guy who caught in HS and college, and he didn't know that you could decline the catcher's interference and take the result of the play.
I am not quite as old as you, but I also was unaware of the rule. As I think back on it, it is probably because I don't recall more than a couple of times where I remember catcher's interference being called on a ball actually put in play.

Another DH Buxton rest day.

Cant even care though because he cant hit anyways. Love his value as a resting DH who hits .220.

So much better than a 5 tool player who does it all.

don't know if people have seen this story, but the Oakland A's announced that the team has signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a new stadium to be built.......in Las Vegas. if the financing gets finalized, sounds like they hope to move into the new park in 2027. obviously, this will be a domed, climate-controlled stadium, because it gets really freakin' hot in Vegas. (FWIW - I was at a broadcasting convention in Vegas in '91, and I went to a minor-league game there. It was pretty toasty....)

for the younger audience:
Franchise started as the Philadelphia A's - an early powerhouse in the teens and 1920's under manager Connie Mack. Later, the A's moved to Kansas City. in 1968, owner Charlie Finley moved the club to Oakland. so Vegas would be the 4th city to house the franchise.

This would be just the 3rd team to move to a different city in 50 years.

the Washington Senators (version #2) moved to Texas to become the Rangers in '72, and then the Montreal Expos moved to Washington, DC to become the Nationals.

From your numbers/dates isn't the Senators 2.0 move already 51 years ago? Before that the previous move was the Pilots from Seattle which begat the Milwaukee Brewers.

The A's Triple A affiliate is already located in Vegas, NW of the Strip in Summerlin. I suspect they will try to play there for a couple of seasons before their Dome is ready. It's a nice minor league park, which is part of the a complex that also has the Vegas Golden Knights practice facility, and across the street from Red Rock resort.

I do have empathy for Oakland fans to lose the Seals, Raiders (twice) and A's in my lifetime. At least the Warriors only moved across the Bay. But enough is enough with that park.

Sucks to see Maeda hurt. That looked brutal. Heck of a play too.

Probably gonna get Ober up here though, where he belongs

Just cut your damn losses with Pagan. It was a bad contract. It happens.

Dbacks are eating 34 mil on Madbum. We can eat some dollars on this scrub.

There is certainly a reason pagan pitches in low leverage situations

Yep, A's top of the food chain early 70s and late 80s.

It can't be normal for a relief pitcher to still have a job after three straight (about to be four) years of an ERA over 4. That's horrible.

Josh Winder...c'mon down!

Pagan has to be gone now.

Coming home tomorrow. Saints are at home.

Curious to see how many of Polanco, Kirilloff, Ober and Winder find their way up here before the homestand ends.

Quite frankly the first two should be in the Twins lineup tommorrow.

Also, with how feeble our offensive approach is most of this year it begs the question. Is our hitting coach doing anything or just sitting on his ass?

Gordon is now 4/44 this year for a .091/.111/.114 slash. Obviously horrendous. In 44 at bats he has only THREE Ks and only ONE walk.

Hellen Keller could tell yout that means one thing, the ambush approach aint working, at all. Maybe try having Gordon work counts and take pitches??? Sure, hes gonna strike out more but his bat to ball skills appear to be solid enough that hes never gonna be a huge K guy. Guess what that approach does??? Gives him pitches to hit. HItters counts. Heaters. No more guessing. Like are we trying this at all??

Basically same thing goes for Miranda. Dude is slugging .233 playing every day and doesnt walk. Just hits weak pop ups or DP's every time up. Is anyone working with him on working the count??

Sometimes its not always on the players. Is anyone trying to develop them? Or is swinging blindly the game plan? Gordon and Miranda with Larnachs approach........could make for a decent ball player.

Pagan, Moran, Alcala. Back of our bullpen's been sketchy.

I'm hoping Alcala gets it together. Might just take a bit after being hurt all of last year.

Won’t impact the game, but man that’s a tough at bat. 1 strike was automatic and the two other strikes were balls. I guess the ump had an early dinner date.

Obviously the Twins weren't going to win this game, but how does Kepler get thrown out at third in that spot? Really dumb play there.

Was he sent or did Kepler start to go home on his own? Incredibly dumb.
