OFFICIAL: Minnesota vs Syracuse in Pinstripe Bowl

I live there, hence the name and if you go by actual FBU Crime Statistics, you would see it has a far lower murder rate than Mpls and is routinely ranks as one of the safest big cities in the country.

It features bi-weekly trash pickup and is by no means Filthy for a place with nine million inhabitants.

It pretty easy to guess where you get your info from and I find it hilarious when someone like you weighs in with opinions and presents them as facts, when they are simply opinions, not based on any observational or hard data.

Lastly, you don’t ever have to visit, as you won’t be missed.
Great city and a great place to live if you can afford it. Still is an absolute terrible place/time to play your bowl game.

What does that have to do with the hicks here telling us how scared they are of a city.
I just couldn't imagine someone who is like super cultured would be someone who lives within 5 hours of where they were born in fly over country. You know the type? They travel a little and eat ethnic food so they think they're super cultured.

You go to New York City on vacation and pretend to be cultured because of your trip. You mock the people who talk about the crime problems in New York City while the people WHO ACTUALLY LIVE IN NEW YORK have said it's the #1 issue there.

You seem triggered.
LOL. Maybe to someone as refined as you.

Listen, you attacked someone as being an "uncultured hick" who should stay in their basement and I'm the one who is triggered? Deflect much?

I know you're a super duper cultured guy because you went on a couple trips so maybe I'm just being a luddite.

By the way, what city do you live?

This was the worst case scenario but was also the most likely game we were going to get. We also blew it last year with that Bowling Green loss. 8-4 next year would be a win considering how tough the schedule is but this year and last year, it leaves something to be desired

I’m not sure i understand the “screwed” aspect here…

Having said that I’ll be watching from home.

Remodeling house, not in the mood to spend.
So u don't have any skin in the game. Keep typing!

Repping for my home.
And no, it’s not optimal, but

Yep. It is a terrible location for a bowl game. These bowl games in baseball stadiums are awful.

Here’s a sample of data (educate yourself or don’t champ. There has been an uptick which many analysts feel us related to the COVID), however, it is still safer than it was at its apex). FYI - Gov. Patterson who comments in the article is legally blind.

I remember both Auburn and Georgia Tech fans moaning and groaning about drawing poor opponent Minnesota in bowl games. Both fan bases, on their blogs at least, thought they deserved a better opponent and, in the case of Georgia Tech, a better bowl. We waxed each of these teams. I hope our team (as opposed to GHolers) is happy and excited to be going to a bowl game in a great city, to play a solid football team. Whiners rarely win; I hope our teams’ attitude is markedly different from what permeates this blog complain-athon.

The difference between the Pinstripe, Mayo and Music City is really not all that much. Except that it is in a "cold" location, New York is a far better city than Charlotte or Nashville. There isn't a whole helluva lot in Charlotte and I can't stand country music.
NASCAR hall of fame is cool. Charlotte

We've gone over this extensively. Eight different teams in eight years was no requirement. The only team that couldn't go back was Maryland.

It was a stated "goal" in the agreement and that "goal" had been met for seven years (seven different teams in seven years). It wasn't going to change this year.

According to FBI assembled national crime statistics, both Nashville and Minneapolis (but not St. Paul) perennially rank in the top 20 cities for violent crime rates. NYC almost never does. Charlotte also typically has a higher crime rate than NYC. I am sorry, but the crime rate complaint about NYC is BS. Now, it still happens to be an expensive city, but check out Nashville hotel rates someday if you want sticker shock.

You can be excited for the bowl game while also acknowledging that the selection process is not equitable for all the teams involved. Say what you will....the Gophers drew the short stick two years in a row. It doesn't make building a program easier when it's pretty obvious that certain teams are given advantages by the conference that should be representing everyone equally.

People who recognize it's one of the greatest cities in the world and don't spend their time pounding Milwaukees Best in some small town dump of a bar.
Even Newark is better than New York City!!! 😁

This thread is damn near insufferable. So bitter at each other.

Look, regardless of prestige of this bowl, it sucks for fans. Even if it were the first pick after the Rose it would still suck. It’s cold, it’s a baseball stadium, it’s in probably the most expensive location other than LA (but no one complains about warm weather expense). This is not a fans Bowl.

But it may kick ass for the players. Many of which would otherwise never see New York. The Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center and the tree and rink, 9/11 memorial, probably a Broadway show.

So, what’s more important? Fans or the players? I bet the team has an amazing week with their friends and brothers. A week they weren’t going to get in the same way in Charlotte. As much fun as the NASCAR hall of fame may be.

It was all but guaranteed we were going to this bowl when the West was off the table. The B1G had over the past seven years proven they were honoring a different team each year. No reason to think they’d change that. Frankly, this team should be happier than last year’s since they were 8-4 and dropped to the last available now that we never fill the Detroilet Bowl.

I’m just pissed our timing always sucks. In most years, 10-2 would get you the Rose Bowl or similar. In our year somehow everyone goes 10-2 and we go to the Outback, not even the Citrus. Last year 8-4 Guaranteed Rate, this year 6-6. It just seems we always play out 1-2 games off the standard no matter the year.

The bowl sucks for us. It’s probably the best of our grouping for the team.

As far as the game goes, I see the Gophs as at least 9 points better than the Orange. Probably more than that in light of the slide they've been on.

Just once I’d like someone from the University publicly ask pointed questions about how and why this program always gets the short end on the stick with bowl games.

I’ve heard the “other programs travel better” argument and understand it, but has anyone ever considered that they don’t travel well because we continually get the shaft on Bowl games?
