All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

Speaking of 1 pitch...I had forgot they were even playing last night. Checked my phone and saw they had a 4-2 lead in the 9th inning. Flipped on the tube to see that the Royals had a rally going, 1 out with guys on 1st and 3rd. Only pitch I watched was the bang-bang double play to end the game. The replay review took much longer than the live action I saw.

Efficient.

Reusse says he hates this team more than any in 62 years. His Unchained today is hilarious.

read the article in today's Strib - at least the online version - about trying to find a recording of the game where Cesar Tovar played all 9 positions. It's hilarious. and the article includes a link to listen to highlights of the game, including Halsey Hall on commentary.

I enjoyed the rant. The 2 things I agree with Patrick most on:

- 3rd Time Through the Line-Up. Ok that's fine to subscribe to that somewhat, but if the pitcher is throwing well, pitch count is low AND against a crappy hitting team (ie Angels), then give the starter a longer leash to get into the 6th inning and (gasp) the 7th.
- Lopez pitch selection on that last 2 batters in the 9th was horrible. Lousy hitters, go get 'em. Don't futz around and walk the tying run on base.

And part of the problem is the hitting has been so bad lately that even when the starter is doing well, it's usually still a close game. Rocco is probably willing to let the starter go the 6th if the game is 5-1 instead of 1-1.

In August the Twins are averaging 3.92 runs a game which is lower than March/April was (4.05).

Agreed. Against leftys they are are particularly abysmal.

They need to get a right handed corner OF next year IMO. Garlick is just too bad against righties. Maybe a guy like Pham.

A good read (& listen).

So the twins have this whole master plan for pitching and nobody thought to run it by the pitchers. The next time anyone suggests the twins sign a pitcher all you have to do is play this clip and realize good pitchers don’t wanna be pulled after 5 bleeping innings every game no matter the circumstances.

Lol 6 shutout innings and then yanked

Give Pagan the 8th and 9th I dare ya. In all honesty this is the type of game he should pitch the 8th or the 9th or even both.

The Twins already won this trade by trading away Berrios who’s been awful. Getting any production from what they got in return would be a bonus at this point.

Twins up 2-0 over KC in the day game. Miranda with a 2-run HR.

I am starting to think that Miranda has a legitimate shot at Rookie of the Year in the AL. His stats are comparable with Bobby Witt, Jr in about half of the plate appearances.

and Duran should also get some ROY votes.

This all day long. No reason to pitch Cole Sands last night and of course the baseball gods make you pay by injuring you’re starter today.

It's going to be Julio Rodriguez in Seattle.

J-Rod is the prohibitive fave per three sites I looked at- as in -600 type of fav. I just looked him up and saw he’s 6’3 228 lbs- that’s insane with his speed.

Miranda and Ryan have punter’s chances; Miranda was an other mention on all those sites and Ryan was a long shot in one. Ryan didn’t pitch enough last year to lose his rookie status and was in the Top 100 prospect list at the beginning of the season. Duran wasn’t mentioned on any site.

I think Miranda and Ryan have said Punter’s chance, IF the Twins make the playoffs and the Mariners don’t and J Rod would need to slump and Miranda needs to hit .300 or close to with over 20 dongs and Ryan needs to lead AL rookies in Ws and some other pitching categories and notch several more wins down the stretch. Possible yes, probable no and even if all the aforementioned happened, JRod was an All-Star this year and Witt Jr. is baseball royalty as his dad was A very good player in his day and well liked IIRC.

Celestino just made a great catch in center with two on and one out in the 7th.

Nick Gordon is hitting .342 and .895 OPS in August (coming into today). He's improved his numbers every month.
