All Things 2022 Minnesota Twins In-Season Thread

65 pitches through 5 innings. No run. 2 hits. But "the numbers" say you're more likely to allow hits, so you're done. Are these folks ever going to realize sports aren't played in Excel and the crown princes of nerdball in Oakland never won shit?
I can’t believe we are taking about having Dylan freaking Bundy pitch more innings in the year 2022.

Everything went to plan for the bullpen until Lopez walks the stuff ahead 0-2 only to walk him on 4 straight balls.

They follow some numbers. Unfortunately they are ignoring the numbers that say if you run relievers out for four innings every game....your bullpen options are going to be shite most of the time.

If any guy should be allowed to pitch multiple innings out of the bullpen it’s him. Honestly just leave his ass in California and he can go play for the Padres again.

What did Bundy do wrong to end his night? Why not put more innings on the bullpen given that the Twins have a starter going tomorrow who has proven he can't go more than 5 innings?

I completely

agree with you I just can’t believe that is where we are with the twins and their rotation / pitching plan. he is going to throw the most or second to most innings for the twins and they may still win the division. Yes the bullpen needs to be used less or guys need to be used for more than one inning. The fact that every game basically takes 1 starter and 4 bullpen arms is not a sustainable usage and it’s starting to show as the season moves on. Just remember I think the twins had the best bullpen era in baseball in April and maybe even may.

St some point you have to play the actual performance on the field and not your Strat-O-nativ card. The Angels O is fairly pedestrian outside of Ohtani - thus ain’t the Yanks.

You really font have a reason to win a game when you’re 0-14 RISP either.

You’ve gotta wonder if they won’t make a defensive change at catcher to get Leon into the game for the 7th, 8th, and 9th. The pitch selection was alarmingly bad in those innings last night. It’s not like Gary’s offense is enough to offset his terrible defense / game calling right now.

everyone is complaining about Pagan and Rocco.

which doesn't change the fact that the Twins' best two relievers - Duran and Lopez - combined to blow a 3-run lead in the last two innings.

the game was set up just the way fans said they wanted. and then Duran and Lopez gave the lead away.

that's on them - not on Rocco or Pagan.

Hey, nobody's perfect. but if Lopez does his job in the 9th, Pagan never has a chance to give up the game-ending HR.

and............0 for 14 with Runners in scoring position. blame Pagan for that, too?

Technically you could have a one pitch inning if you start by intentionally walking the first batter before getting a triple play.

Also....I consider this game a win....as I bet over 8 runs (can't believe they didn't score on Bundy). So I ended up pushing. I'll take it.
I realized that after the fact. You could have a one pitch inning in any inning when that rule changed.

My complaint is why does Pagan get those opportunities. He barely survived the 10th but for an amazing catch and terrible base running. Rather than go to someone else Rocco goes back to Pagan in the 11th and he doesn’t even get an out. How many times does Rocco need to be burned by Pagan before he’s not used?

Yes all the other things are issues too. I still feel they finish under .500, but that might be tough as their schedule is pretty easy down the stretch.

Why is Cole Sands on the roster is not for this game. You’ve burned your top bullpen options in game 1 and 2 and archer again only provides 4 innings. Rather than go to someone that can pitch 3 innings we have to go back to one inning per reliever. I just don’t get it.

What a pathetic road trip. Maybe the guy with the Fire Rocco sign will be back at Target Field this week.

I read somewhere the twins have scored 3 or less runs in 51 games which would be 45% of the games they have played that seems almost impossible for a team to be above .500 with that kind of scoring ineptitude

Pagan blows but he wasn't the problem last night. He got through the 10th inning scoreless. The odds of getting through two scoreless with the free runner is low. That loss is on Lopez, Gordon and the offense.

Sands and Archer need to swap roles at this point. Let Sands start. Let Archer pitch 3 innings once per week in a low leverage spot.

It's time to IL Kepler and call up either Wallner or Contraras. You can't just keep running him out there.

Random thought: with a runner starting on 2nd, it is possible to have a 2 pitch inning.
An extreme example would be a 1 pitch inning, intentionally walk the first batter (automatic, no pitches anymore) and then turn a triple play on the first pitch.

EDIT - I see this was covered by you and Stocker as I read on, and really happen in any inning.

Back when I was coaching VFW ball, I had a pitcher get credit for pitching a full inning and a save with 1 pitch. Runners on 1st and 2nd, came in and picked the guy off 2nd. Next pitch line shot to the 1st baseman and got the runner before scrambling back to the base.

Efficient.

Technically I think a batter can have a strike called on them if they delay the game after an ump warning so maybe there is a backend way for a pitcher to get through a whole inning without throwing a pitch.

Reusse says he hates this team more than any in 62 years. His Unchained today is hilarious.

I was hating on them some at the beginning of the year and you threw a fit. I will have to listen to Reusse to see how it's done. LMAO

When Lopez hits the outfield needs to play slightly more shallow. Unlike other guys he does not give up hard contact and lots of his hits with the twins have been bloops between the outfield and infield.

Can you hack into Rocco's spreadsheet so he knows?
