All Things 2024 Gophers Basketball Recruiting Thread - Videos, Tweets, Articles, Rumors, Analysis and More

One of the last Hibbing area players turned out OK.
Haha I was thinking of McHale, and also thinking that was half a century ago. I guess I meant I did not think we would have players from there going forward but this is cool to see.

Also excellent nickname potential.

The Iron Ranger?

With his name Isaac...how about Steel Shaft?

Gotta say I did not think we would be recruiting guys from Virginia/Hibbing area. Love to see it.
I'd like to go on record that I predict the University of Minnesota Athletic Department will not market this young man, or any student athlete, as "Steel Shaft" or, heaven forbid, "The Steel Shaft."

Maybe he turns into a great 3 pt shooter..."The Cherry Popper."

Nah, on second thought prolly not.

Haha, should have ended that one with /sarcasm

Common Man just discussed this offer and the kid. Had very positive things to say about him and Johnson. Common’s kid played with and/or against Asuma.
I remember playing his cousin in the early 2000’s. I’m from Cook (which is now Northwoods High School) which is about a half an hour away. His mother was also a very good basketball player in her own right. I also believe there is another Asuma brother coming up behind him as well.

There is. I think he is like 8th grade? He played varsity and did well but is young.

there are 3 brothers on the team; 7th, 8th, and 10th graders. At one point in the state tournament this year, they were all on the court at the same time. Very cool. Isaac is a player! Word at the tourney was that one of the younger ones has the most potential. Scary.

I caught a few Pulley 16 games in KC and I thought I would give my thoughts based on that. First of all, Greg Gard was all in on at least one of those guys. He was always at their games instead of ones at the 17 level with bigger recruits. There are 3 recruitable guys with Pulley. Freitag, McAndrews and Robison. They are all Class of 24. Gard asked me what I thought of McAndrews. I told him he had some tools and he said yep. The Gophers saw some games but Pierce seemed to be their first priority in KC.

Freitag. He is a little smaller height wise than I thought. Looks like a good, strong point guard by size. He would be a slightly undersized wing, he is plenty strong, quick and physical. Played mostly off guard for Pulley, but seemed to handle the ball well and drive very well. Was 18 for 18 at the line in one game. More of a scorer than a shooter, but shot well from three. Very competitive as a defender. Would be a very good 4 year combo guard. I would love it if he could become a full time point guard.

Robison. Has a pretty looking left handed stroke from deep, although was hit and miss this weekend. Seems very smart. At least 6’4” or 5 with long arms. Surprisingly good rebounder and passer. Ok on defense. Doesn’t mind mixing it up, but needs to put on 20 to 30 pounds. Savvy. I would take him and Freitag.

McAndrew is long and can get his shot off easily. At least 3 inches taller than Robison. Shot pretty well with a good stroke. Seems like a slightly smaller, Nolan Winters. Did not see much defense or rebounding, but was willing to try. Did not handle the ball much. Moved well without the ball

Nice recap. Thank you for sharing

Fun video! For a class A team they have a team of skilled players. I liked watching Asuma. He has a grace to his game....that IT factor you know when you see it. Like to see him as a Gopher. I sure don't want to see him become an Iowa St signee.

It’s a long way from 🍒 to the Cities, but really LONG to Ames!
Maybe we can get the his brothers also.

According to this article dated July 5, McAndrew has been camping at WI already (Gard's likely crush then?) -

MADISON, Wis. -- Highlights of Wayzata (Minn.) 2024 forward Jackson McAndrew from Wisconsin's advanced camp on Thursday.

The 6-foot-8 forward has an offer from St. Thomas. McAndrew is also receiving interest from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, Illinois State, South Dakota, Appalachian State, Loyola (IL), Belmont, Indiana State, North Dakota State, and more.

McAndrew is currently unranked by 247sports and the 247sports composite.

Any thoughts on Grayson Grove from Alex? He's listed on 24/7 site as a possible recruit for '24 as well.

Q&A: DeLaSalle Sophomore Casmir “Cash” Chavis Gets Early Attention

Any updates on this guy? Play for Park Center now

Yeah he transferred/was asked to leave from DeLaSalle in the middle of the year. I don’t think he’ll be an option or fit here
Honestly I don’t even see him going to a power 5 school. He has talent but a lot of flaws on the court
