Official 2022 Roster Status - Who is Returning and who is Leaving

Does this really open the door for Ersery then?
Would assume so unless they go out and add a transfer tackle of some kind. Will be interesting to see how the O-Line shakes out over the spring and fall camp. Going to be a number of new faces but it should also be made up of guys who have been in the system for multiple years working together.

I haven't heard anything about that, I assumed he would try the NFL route first.
Yeah, you're probably right. When football is in your blood for so many years, I would think it would be kind of tough to walk away from the sport when you're only one step away from the next level.

Otomewu will be drafted, that's really not even his game. If he plays on obvious passing downs, it's almost always to take up blockers for the blitz packages.

His athletic profile will be really intriguing. He grades out really well by PFF. He can play in both a 4-3 or a 3-4 because of his size.

He will be like St. Juste who will go earlier than a lot of Gopher fans might think.
He'll need a good Senior Bowl and a good combine but he definitely has a shot to get drafted at a respective spot.

I saw an interview with him somewhere (I think the Gopher Pregame Show on FOX 9) around the Wisconsin game and he definitely mentioned that he would be open to seeing if he could continue his football career.

Is Olson a draft possibility ... or more likely a UDFA? Both he and Schlueter could probably help some teams. Olson bring position flexibility, like Blaise.

Do not know if anyone has posted this depth chart from:

It looks to be updated with most of the moves.

They do a good job on that site, and they keep it very up to date. Has to be tough with all the moves taking place all over the country.

This is showing Trickett as kickoff man. Is Kesich hurt?

Guessing just an oversight on their part since they don't even show Kesich on the roster.

Unless something changed that we are all unaware of he is still part of the team and he is still on the official gophersports.com roster.

Ourlads is a National site so I am sure there are lots of little errors like this on individual rosters. Wouldn't read a ton into their depth chart behind the starters either since I doubt they are doing much more than surface analysis on each teams depth chart.

Faalele, Mafe, Andries, and Otomewo are all near locks to be drafted.

Durr and Schlueter have a chance but will be fringe draft picks/UDFA guys.
Agree on all of these - I think Kieft also goes late and I actually think Gibbens has a shot with a good combine.

Pinckney, Schlueter, and Olson all have UDFA potential too… Nyles has most upside to get drafted with a strong showing at Pro Days.

So do I. More and more teams are going heavy in run formations (6th OL, multiple TEs, etc.). I couldn't think of a player who is a better fit for that world.

I do think Kieft has a chance as well. Gibbens would have been drafted 20 years ago, but LBs like him are a dying breed in today's NFL.

I think Pinckney's height will prevent him from being drafted.

a bit off-topic, but here's TheDailyGopher's breakdown of next year's OL

Decent breakdown in the Daily Gopher. Maybe there will be a surprise from the youth that comes in early.

Yeah, they are a bit more concerned with our lack of experience than I am. I am more concerned with our lack of depth.

Ruschmeyer, Boe, and Schmitz played a LOT of football for us last year. I know that Boe and Ruschmeyer aren't technically returning starters, but they played a ton of non-garbage/non-backup snaps for us.

I agree that depth is the bigger issue, but overall I'm not concerned with the OL next year. They didn't mention Karter Shaw who I think could end up starting at one of the guard positions, and gives them a solid 6 man rotation. For depth they have Martes Lewis and Tyrell Lawrence, who were already college size coming out of HS and will be in their 3rd year with the team.

great way to pay for med school
This opens a couple questions.
1) Does a school pay for all med school bills, dentistry, law degree etc. while competing?
2) Once you've reached maximum years allowed to play football, does your scholarship stop?
3) Once you leave even if short of your degree, you cannot come back and complete it under scholarship? These would be the guys with a year or two. Kind of like Darrel Thompson who left early but never completed his degree.

(1) Yes (We have had a number of scholarship athletes going to various post-graduate programs);
(2) I assume Yes. It stops.
(3) I believe many schools will honor the scholarships later but it isn't required. They should.

Any way we could Trouble OP to add where guys end up for transfers out/go if they’re retiring/going into the draft and where we get guys from as we find out?
… and also add their most recent 40 times and indicate whether laser or hand timed. Thx. 😉

Why? He was starting to lose reps here so he transferred down to a less successful program where he might have a better chance to play. Happens all the time.
$50,000 looked pretty inviting.

The Daily Gopher did a pretty good job. I'm not worried at all about our OL.

Getting John Michael Schmitz back at Center was the key. Place any combination of Rusch, Boe, Shaw or Tyler Cooper at Guard's next to him, and I'm comfortable. No reason we can't craft two quality starters out of that group, and a couple quality depth guys to boot. Some have more game experience than others, but they're all mature OL who're ready to play now. Reports on Ersery at LT have been glowing, and I'm sure he'll do great. Same with Guedet at RT. That's a quality player who's been around the program a while now, and has earned his turn.

Lastly....I would be SHOCKED if we didn't land at least one, and probably two quality transfers via the portal. If you were a 5th-6th year OL looking to transfer for one last season, you'd have to think the Gophers are about as attractive as it gets, right? We run the ball all day long, we use jumbo packages that get extra OL on the field, we let our OL act as blocking backs, and on the TV broadcasts all they do is gush about our OL. No doubt in my mind we will get a couple quality transfers.

They don’t ask Howden if he is coming back but based on some of his answers it sure feels like he is planning to return next year.
