All Things 2021 NCAA College Basketball March Madness Tournament Thread

Fran will be back on the hot seat this time next year. What a waste of talent 🤣

A friend of mine told me he just got an extension until 2028. That would be a very expensive firing.

Man...if Gonzaga wasn't already going to be tough to beat...why not give them the whistle advantage too.

I think the buyout drops significantly after 23-24 season or something like that but that is a good point. Probably should have said the heat from the fans will be back instead of him being at risk of losing his job as there's a real disconnect between their AD and the fans but when they dip next year, they won't forget him wasting the most loaded team in program history. I would imagine he retires there as he'll be 62 in a couple months but not sure how fondly he'll be remembered.

Meanwhile, LSU is giving Michigan all it can handle.

NCAA womens BB B1G up 5 W 1 L. Rutgers lost by 3.

Haven’t watched much but Wright has struggled. 2/8, 3 fouls, 1 assist, 6 turnovers

Former Jelly Fam member Jahvon Quinerly having quite the game for Alabama. 7pts, 4 rebounds, 9 assists at the half. Weird deal when he was at Nova. Hopefully he can carve out a career.

The Summit League has the same number of teams in the Sweet 16 as the B1G.

It is definitely not the most loaded program in Iowa history. Since I've followed Iowa (beginning about 1979), that would be 1987 and I can think of a couple of others in that time period that had better rosters. Personally, I think McCaffrey did a lot with what he had on this roster but they definitely laid an egg today.

You might be right. Once his youngest son gets through he may bow out.

PAC 12 had 5 bids (one stolen by OSU) and likely gets 4 teams in the final 16.

Big Ten had 9 bids (none stolen) and gets 1.

Seems like whenever the committee throws 9 or 10 bids at one conference, it bites them in the ass. But, I don't expect them to rethink the strategy in the future. They'll just blindly follow whatever team ranking metric is in vogue at the time.

I guess Colorado has to be labeled as a Pac 12 underachiever. They were the conference's highest seeded team (#5) and didn't even make the Sweet 16.

The others were seeded no higher than a #6 USC, joined by #7 Oregon, #11 UCLA (who also had to win a play-in game) & #12 Oregon St.

Color Me Impressed.

Big crow dinner for me. Colorado St getting embarrassed.

Memohis playing suffocating, relentless defense. Also hitting every three they take, that helps.

Why can’t we have a defensive identity like that??? BJ??

Ugly game so far. It's nice not having the Sweet 16 games overlap though. I wonder if they will keep this new schedule going forward.

this game has been quite hard to watch. both teams letting the opponents defense settle in on each possession has not gone well

these teams both look horrendous today. yikes. winner looks like they'll be in the 40s

Tony Bennett, Bo Ryan and Greg Gaard are loving this.
Tony Bennett loved that 2019 UVA team that was historically great on offense and defense and won the national title. He would love that both these teams would not give in defensively with the struggling offense. We would have.Ryan had some of the best offenses in the past 20 years.

Seth noted that LC is not used to operating against zone defense. They look really uncomfortable, and they can't hit an outside shot to save their life.

Both these teams look like Pitino coached offenses dribbling the shot clock down to 12 seconds before even initiating offense. clearly both uncomfortable as you well noted

I think you mean Dick Bennett. Tony actually runs an offense.

A couple of junior high offenses going at it in OSU/Loyola. Both sides throwing up prayers. You'd think that would be to Loyola's advantage.

How come today’s coaches can’t or won’t switch back and forth between zone and man to man defense during the game. Are today’s players to used to aau ball that they can’t be taught any coach in the big 10 would have a couple extra wins in the big 10 as all the teams look lost against a zone.

I had to trip Built's bat radar.
