Next Gopher Head Coach

I’ll take someone who’s not a failed retread all day every day.
Retread? He's 43. He's younger than anyone we're considering except Gates. But he's won 272 games and made the NCAA's 8 times. I'll take that over a guy who's coached 2 years in the Horizon League.

Only because he's had a shot in a big conference. He's under .500 in the Big 12 despite consistently having one of the most talented teams.
I understand the complaining about coaches underperforming with talented rosters. Shaka certainly fits the bill there. But I also don’t understand the lack of credit that those coaches get for putting together those rosters. A college coach is a GM and coach, so if the roster is very talented then they had a lot to do with that.

I disagree. Pitino lasted as long as he did because he ran a clean program.
I agree with this. If there were compliance issues, Coyle would have fired Pitino last year. Pitino’s players had their share of legal issues, but compliance was never an issue. That is, of course, aside from the infamous Gas Tank-gate scandal of 2016 which rocked the Twin Cities and ranks right up there with Clem and his shenanigans.

So we've got a foundation of Smith, Gates and Medved interviews. Curious what/if other names still in the running or pop up here. I would imagine there are. If that's what it comes down to then fair enough. I can live with that. Gates still concerns me most of the 3. Medved hasn't played in an NCAA tournament but seems like that's a matter of time.

I'll go Smith, Medved, Gates, in that order. Always subject to change of course haha.

Coyle pretty much put Pitino on notice at his first press conference due to "video-gate." The only thing that happened after that was Reggie Lynch and the first incident brought no charges and the 2nd incident I believe pre-dated the first and Coyle's hire.

whats a pirates favorite state? lol nobody got posters in their room wishing they could play for arkansas..not even close to a blue blood....now whats the point to a lateral move for him, unless he really likes mn he has a good thing going...idk why people sleeping on dutcher... he literally put that buyout in his contract for a reason, of course he dismissed it while his team was still playing but hes gonna get a call

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't Ben Howland (current Mississippi State coach) mentioned in the coaching search last time around?

I don't think anyone here has mentioned Kelsey yet. Could this be one of the mystery candidates that have been teased?

I’m probably alone on here but I’m not excited about hiring any of the names that have been thrown out in this thread. We need a newsworthy hire with headlines that catch the attention of recruits. I’m prepared for major disappointment and another 3-4 years of excuses for poor play while the new coach is establishing their “system”. Barring something hugely unexpected, this is most likely our reality.

All is lost Slim.

My daughter went to Baylor and while it is definitely a Christian school (Baptist affiliation) it is definitely not hyper-religious. For some students yes, for many, no.
Vehemently disagree. Honor code. They don't allow gays. Don't allow academic freedom.

Same thing as BYU.

anybody will be better than what we've had. AND I think the list of candidates is a good one and that Coyle will make the right hire. The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned.

LATEST UPDATE:

1. Moser is not interested
2. Little to very little steam on Dutcher
3. Gates is interviewing with MN and Marquette this week.
4. Smith interviewing this week.
5. Working on a Medved online interview.
Marquette is only 90 miles to Chicago.

If it makes you feel any better, the bulk of these candidates are distinguished by how quickly they establish their system and produce wins.

From that perspective, this might be both a difficult year and a particularly fertile year for that because of the transfer frenzy.

Not to mention you can’t shake a stick down there without hitting 3 rednecks
Not at all wrong.

But as has been said, NW Ark is not the deep south. It's like STL. Lot of money, probably a fair amount of transplants because of three Fortune 500 companies there, not to mention Walmart being top 5(?) and the University as well.

247 guys probably dont like you bringing info behind a paywall over here
The "info" doesn't belong to them.

Such a silly, silly concept.

"I did literally zero to earn the information that was given to me ... it was just given, for nothing. But now I'm going to pretend like I invented it and it's my property!"

To them: you're gifted a product and then you turn around and profit off it. F off

Chris Mack was mentioned. That would be a homerun hire. Never gonna happen, but it would be the type of hire you mentioned, yes?
