Dior Johnson has scheduled an OV for this weekend: https://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/...nson-155151;_ylt=An6K_bzFomINI98L5Ab1qiPUspB4

This is a pretty big deal for a number of reasons. 1st, he's a 4-star Wake Forest commit, so his interest must be pretty high. 2nd, he's a safety which is still a position of need for this class. 3rd, and maybe most importantly, he's good friends with John Kelly and Ray Buford.

Would be pretty bomb if we could pull in all 3 of those guys. Would make me feel way way more excited about this class's potential

Also just noticed on Johnson's 247 page that he's classified as a "soft" commit to WF. Is this new? I noticed the date says 1/19/15 where he originally committed to WF back in August

Pretty much any committed kid that is taking visits to other schools would be considered a soft commit. I feel good about landing him.

Who is this Anthony McKee guy visiting on the 30th?? He's got a heck of an offer list. Do we have any chance?

Just because those schools aren't getting many players doesn't mean they aren't offering. In that 11 year time frame you have offers from: LSU (4), Ole Miss (4), Alabama, Texas A&M (2), Tennessee (4), Auburn, South Carolina (2), and Vanderbilt

So that's 8 SEC schools. "Heavily" may have been an overstatement (though no more than calling it "slim pickings"), but I'd say your expectations are a little high and we're getting off track here. The original argument was whether or not Register was underlooked because he was playing off the beaten path. The number of FBS and P5 commitments coming out of the mid-sized city, as well as the surrounding area, would still suggest that is not the case. Not relative to the vast majority of high school football players anyway.

Again, comparing it to EP or Cretin, who on earth would ever say "well he didn't get the recruiters attention because he played for Cretin"? Yes, they're just two schools, but those are two schools that more or less get their pick of the litter from a rather large metro area.

There aren't that many high schools producing 1-2 BCS talents a year.

Completely disagree.

10 years, 3 BCS recruits who weren't LSU commits, 6 total. Of those 3 recruits, the Northwestern recruit in '09 had no other BCS interest and his recruiting article on Rivals says he "flew under the radar of many bigger programs". Again, this is not to say there are never good recruits from Lafayette, or that it's not recruited at all. Every few years they produce a good one. What that means for recruiters is a lot of driving, not much talent and basically no shot if LSU offers. Recruiters want to drive to a city, visit a couple recruits at 4-5 schools, as well as a couple at each school for the following year/s. Visiting 10 prospects in one afternoon makes a lot more sense than visiting 1. It's sales 101.

In Hunter Register's class (2015), there was 1 BCS recruit and he committed back in August (LSU of course). With there being no other BCS level recruits to visit and 2-3 hour drive to get there, it was absolutely slim pickings for recruiters. That's not an anomaly either. in 2014 and 2013 there were zero BCS recruits. In 2012, 1 recruit. 2011, 1 recruit (LSU commit). If these schools had multiple recruits like many of schools in the South, I'm sure he'd have gotten more looks.

I wonder which of the Gophers coaches flew/is flying down to Lafayette LA to visit with Mr. Hunter register. Are the Gophers still in play or is Hunter content on playing for ULL to be close to family?

IMO, half of the recruiting visits scheduled for 1/30 won't happen. I'd be surprised if McKee ever gets on campus.

But all of the visits that aren't scheduled won't happen, so it's still better than nothing.

And I know that sounds like "So you're telling me there is a chance" from Dumb and Dumber so no need to post the pic.

Sadly enough, when tOSU, ND, and other big name programs come calling we lose players like Mykelti Williams, Jason Cornell, and Grant Schmidt.

Most likely plan on not seeing Anthony Mckee unless he just wants to burn his alloted official visits at the Gopher's expense.

Dick, that's like my shtick...

This is why he hasn't already visited imo. He was scheduled on 12/12 and the OV was cancelled after an in-home visit from the coaches. It's not the first time a recruit tried to get a free trip to the MOA, 2 weeks before X-Mass. When it was instantly cancelled, some of us presumed that was the deal. Burns now says that while McKee is scheduled here now on the 30th that he's doubtful McKee has any real interest in us. We're to visit him again before he comes and Sherels, his position coach isn't even going on that visit. You do the math.

Uncertainty about Hunter Register committing?

The coaches have told Register that they want to know by Wednesday or they're moving on to other targets.

Also, looks like with Brandon Singleton being offered by Arkansas that that ship has sailed.

Those recruits who decide late really put teams like the Gophers in a quandary.

They have to secure solid commitments long before NSD because they don't have the luxury of the Alabamas & tOSUs that are loaded to begin with and can afford a miss.

These schools don't have to recruit as hard. They can pretty much pick and chose who they want being the desirable destination schools.

If the Gophers miss on their top prospects who changed their mind at the last minute, it can be a huge setback talent wise for key areas of need.

No wonder Kill said they have to constantly scout and recruit hard.

Recruiting Update

National NCAA Signing Day Football 2015 is Feb 4
That is 14 days away
Okay, maybe an updated version from John Galt, die hard and loose ends:
Possible recruits
Bryce Witham TE 2 star we are his best offer
Mose Hall DE 2 star w/Wake offer
Jamal Milan DT 3 star with like 20 good offers
John Kelly DB 3 star with many good offers
Dior Johnson DB 4 star with big, good offer list
Mario Osborne DE 2 star but with like 10 offers
TJ Skelton WR no rating, no offers 4.59 at 6-1
Kenny Willikes LB under the radar
Rashad Still WR no rating, no offers
Brandon Scott safety 3 star with lots of nice offers
Anthony Smiley athlete 2 star with 3 lesser offers
Sam Beal athlete 2 star with a Western Michigan offer (gotta be a Gopher?)
and #13 Hunter Register is the #1 WR at this point. Will decide soon and will be between us and UL-Layfeyette.
I don't see a rating for Hunter but he has at least 9 offers

Moving on:
Mc Kinley Whitfield—likely Tulsa
Brandon Singleton—likely arkansas
Anthony McKee—-playin’ us

“Kill said the remaining priorities are 1 safety, 1 OLB, 2-3 D-lineman, 1-2 WRs, and a TE."

Who else? Any of these DB’s, safeties, athletes possible OLB ?

Thanks John & Die Hard

Whitfield is visiting on the 30th i believe. Don't believe the Gophers have moved on yet.

Go Gophers!!

Whitfield has had a Gopher offer for almost a year. He never bothered to come up during the summer or the season, but now he has an OV scheduled the weekend before signing day? I'll be shocked if we get a visit, yet alone a commitment.

Per Rivals, Hunter Register will announce his college choice tomorrow at 6:00pm.

Burns had a source tell him that there's a very good chance it will be Minnesota tomorrow. All signs seem to point to Register becoming a Gopher.

Register just followed a bunch of Gophers players and recruits on Twitter. He's Golden.

Is Brandon Scott an option still? He hasn't visited or scheduled one has he?
