The Gophers are not quite done adding to their 2024 recruiting class. Olathe, Kan. IOL Brett Carroll committed to the Maroon & Gold, 15 days after visiting the school on June 16. After choosing Minnesota over other top offers from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Illinois Carroll is now the fourth offensive lineman committed to the 2024 class.

Who is Brett Carroll?:
Hailing from Olathe (pop. 143,014), Brett Carroll has quickly become one of the best high school football players in the state of Kansas. He is also one of the best all-around athletes. With individual state championships in wrestling and shotput, Carroll can do it all. He broke onto the recruiting scene shortly after his junior season, getting his first offer from Colorado State in February. Eight other division-one schools followed, then the Gophers offered on May 15. Ranking as the No. 7 player in Kansas and No. 791 overall, Carroll took other visits to Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Illinois before settling on the Gophers.
- Scouting Report:
Listed at 6-foot-4, 285 pounds Carroll is the prototypical corn-fed midwestern offensive lineman. He played mostly center last season in high school, but he has the versatility and athleticism to play anywhere along the interior. He plays with a level of nasty that you cannot teach. Under offensive line coach Brian Callahan, there is no reason why he cannot develop into a Big Ten offensive lineman.

Instant Reaction:
Carroll is the type of interior offensive lineman you want to fill your football team with. He is not the flashy wide receiver or running back that will get fans talking, but he is the type of football player that will start games for you down the road. He now brings the Gophers’ 2024 scholarship count to 24 total commitments, which is more than enough for a typical class. He adds to a long line of very solid talents that have committed to Minnesota in this cycle.
What is next?:
With 24 total commitments, the Gophers class currently ranks 17th-best in the country according to 247sports. 24 is a pretty typical-sized class, so I would not expect a whole lot more players to commit. But top in-state OL Emerson Mandell (Irondale) is certainly still a name to look out for. Fleck has continued to do a good job building this class.
