Canda offensive lineman Mauricio Hinds was the second of four recruiting splashes for the Gophers over the weekend. Listed at 6-foot-5, 285 pounds Hinds chose Minnesota over other top offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland and Arizona.

Who is Mauricio Hinds?:

Originally from Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, Canada Mauricio Hinds came to the United States as a sophomore and attended The Hill School in Pennsylvania. After one season he transferred to Clearwater Academy International (CAI) in Clearwater, Florida. He picked up his first DI offer last June from Western Kentucky then 18 other schools joined. Minnesota officially offered on May 18, Hinds then visited Dinkytown this weekend and committed on Saturday. He joins Dallas Sims as the second CAI player committed to the Gophers in this class and they will join Rhyland Kelly and Tyrell Lawrence already on the roster from CAI.

  • Scouting Report:

Listed at 6-foot-5, 285 pounds Hinds has all of the physical tools that you want out of a Big Ten offensive tackle. He has reportedly been playing football for less than three years, so the fact that he is already playing at the level he is makes him a fun long-term prospect for offensive line coach Brian Callahan to help develop.

Instant Reaction:

Coach Fleck and his staff have clearly built a relationship with the Clearwater Academy International program. Hinds is the fourth player from the school either committed or already playing for the Gophers. He might not be the first player mentioned in this class, but having just picked up the sport of football only a few years ago he has tremendous upside and he will be a fun long-term prospect for the Gophers.

What is next?:

Hinds was the second of four Gophers’ commitments from the weekend and their 2024 class now has 23 commitments, ranking 9th best in the entire country. The first weekend of Summer Splash was a success for the program and weekend No. 2 might’ve been better. Hinds joins Nathan Roy and Riley Sunram as the only other offensive lineman committed making a very fun trio of players for the Maroon & Gold up front.
