The Man from Laramie
Winchester '73
Ride Lonesome
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
My Darling Clementine
Whew, I think this might have been grueling to cut down than my Top 10 list. I have a heavy lean towards the beginning of the quarter century with my selections, but here goes:If one is aligned with the Century starting in the year 2000 we hit the Quarter Mark/25 Years this past January 1.

2. Into the Wild
3. Almost Famous
4. Sing Sing

Those Top 6 I feel pretty strongly about and all receive consideration for my Favorite Movies of all time.

10. American Hustle
11. Nightmare Alley

Top 5 (no particular order here, other than alphabetically)
1. Almost Famous
2. City of God
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. Kill Bill, Volume 1
5. The Wrestler
Next 18:
A Quiet Place
Hell or High Water
The Holdovers
Little Miss Sunshine
Mad Max: Fury Road
Midnight in Paris
Nebraska
Parasite
Promising Young Woman
Roma
Royal Tenenbaums
Sicario
Slumdog Millionaire
Spotlight
Tropic Thunder
The Way Way Back
Zodiac
Zone of Interest
Final Two (which I cheat a bit--I'm going with trilogies that I couldn't parse out):
The Bourne Trilogy (through Ultimatum)
The Dark Knight Trilogy
If I hadn't made a rule to limit myself to one film per director, it'd been tougher--Tarantino, Nolan, Wes Anderson all have more than one worthy entry. Surprised myself with not having Linklater represented, and it was close, but not quite.
Love seeing The Way Way Back here. Just an awesome movie and criminally underrated.Whew, I think this might have been grueling to cut down than my Top 10 list. I have a heavy lean towards the beginning of the quarter century with my selections, but here goes:

I thought it was a worthwhile film, but can I think of others with similar themes that do it much better.Love seeing The Way Way Back here. Just an awesome movie and criminally underrated.
Regarding "similarities between The Way Way Back and Adventureland" I threw it into google and AI came up with:I thought it was a worthwhile film, but can I think of others with similar themes that do it much better.
Specifically, Adventureland.
Adventureland was OK. Gonna have to go ahead and disagree that it's anywhere near TWWB. Sam Rockwell alone elevates any movie to another level.I thought it was a worthwhile film, but can I think of others with similar themes that do it much better.

A hockey rube without "Youngblood"???Slap Shot
Mystery Alaska
The Big Lebowski
Deerhunter
Miracle
Shawshank
Oops. Yep that one tooA hockey rube without "Youngblood"???
It even included Keanu Reeves' movie debut as the goalie on the team. A really cheesy 80's flick and loved every minute of it.
Mystery Alaska is a very underrated hockey movie.Oops. Yep that one too
Goon is also an underrated hockey film.Mystery Alaska is a very underrated hockey movie.
No doubt. Lost count at how many times I've watched itMystery Alaska is a very underrated hockey movie.
I thought Goon sucked but that's just me. Red Army doc is excellentGoon is also an underrated hockey film.
As for documentaries, I found Red Army to be really good.
By "underrated" for hockey movies, it's a sliding scale. I liked Goon better than Youngblood & Mystery Alaska.I thought Goon sucked but that's just me. Red Army doc is excellent
No argument on Sam Rockwell, he's generally good to great.Adventureland was OK. Gonna have to go ahead and disagree that it's anywhere near TWWB. Sam Rockwell alone elevates any movie to another level.
I've never seen Adventureland--I think I have it mixed up in my head with the Eisenberg movie where he's fighting zombies and I wasn't interested in that. I'll need to give it a shot.Adventureland was OK. Gonna have to go ahead and disagree that it's anywhere near TWWB. Sam Rockwell alone elevates any movie to another level.
We shall agree to disagree. With that said I may have to give Goon another chance. It's been at least 10 years since I last watched itBy "underrated" for hockey movies, it's a sliding scale. I liked Goon better than Youngblood & Mystery Alaska.
You're thinking of Zombieland!I've never seen Adventureland--I think I have it mixed up in my head with the Eisenberg movie where he's fighting zombies and I wasn't interested in that. I'll need to give it a shot.
I'll echo WAG in stating that it's going to be a pretty high bar to clear TWWB, mainly because of Rockwell's performance, but also Steve Carrel's portrayal of the asshole boyfriend, done despicably well.
