The committee has a chance to make a statement about poor play entering into the tourney being a factor. In year's past they have said its the "body of work" but how can they in good conscience reward a team for going 5-11 in their last 16? I would rather watch the kids at North Dakota State get a chance or the kids at Middle Tenn St.

Teague should Fire Tubby Monday and announce that the Gophers won't be accepting any post season invitation while the search begins for a successor.
You would make a great comedian.

A. He's a troll.

B. He managed to underestimate the Gophers resume astoundingly while vastly over-estimating our importance. The whole nation is not hanging on whether Minnesota gets in. There is no 'statement' to be made by the Committee. If we somehow don't get in, we'll have a right to be upset, and they'll have to admit the 'last 10' is back in as a criteria. But there will be no 'remember Minnesota 2013' grand lesson to be learned. No one outside of MN will care that much, and apparently half of us will be thrilled that we didn't make it. Great fans.

Would the MN Gophers be better suited for the NIT to help get prepared for next year? That seemed to be the consensus on this board last year.

Think of the benefits form another NIT run for players like Coleman, HolllinsX2, Elliason, and Ellenson.

i'll take being thrown to the fire and pressure of 1 (hopefully 2 or more) NCAA tourney games as a prep course for hopefully greater things next year over the NIT again. this team needs to learn to play under the pressure.

I for one won't complain if we don't get in. This team has done everything it can to play itself out of the tournament. If they don't get a bid, it won't be because they got screwed over by the committee. It will be because they were horrendous for large amounts of the season and looked mostly awful down the stretch.

The bottom line is this: The best way to lock up a bid is to give the committee no choice but to include you in the mix. At one point early in the year, this bunch looked well on their way to doing just that. Now they've squarely left themselves on the bubble and have to rely on some strong numbers produced by computer models in order to get a bid. I'm not rooting for them not to get into the tournament, but looking at where we were versus where we are, I'm not going to get upset if they leave us out either.

We will be the first team with that high RPI in a so called big six conference left out. If it can happen to anyone it will be the GOPHERS. Good, we need to get the wheels turning to get a coach as soon as possible. Flip, Shaka.,I''ll take either.

To anybody who says don't fire Tubby because we might wind up with someone worse, I say SCREW YOU and your defeatest way of thinking. I would rather endeavor to win a Big Ten Championships, make Final Fours and win a National Championship than be stuck with this Groundhog Day of frustration.

And you'll get neither.
Baloney. Shaka Smart has been openly campaigning for the job since the day Teague bolted from VCU. He will reunite with Norwood and will fill out the Holy Trinity of bald-headed Gopher Athletics leaders.

We haven't played well down the stretch. But if we're the BCS team with the highest RPI left out under the current system, it'll still be upsetting. I'm not over the 1996 screw job yet.

No way, need ncaa games at this point. Another NIT run will not help

As a Gopher fan I hope they get in, as a basketball fan I enjoy watching good basketball, unfortunately it was bad more than it was good, not sure how having a losing conference record, lose in the first round of the B1G tournament, and end the season with a 5-11 run which leaves you feeling like they don't deserve to get in makes you a bad fan. I think our society preaches that success is rewarded, I wouldn't call the Gophers season a success and would hope they are not rewarded for it, if that makes me a bad fan so be it. I would hope the selection committee would look to a mid major that dominated their leauge but lost in the conference tournament and reward that before giving the nod to the Gophers because how you perform day in and day out should still be important.

Exactly. People will not remember what happened down the stretch for Minnesota. They will remember how we fare in the NCAA tournament. That 2014 class will remember. This team has taken down some good teams. I have seen Minnesota play some very good basketball. We could win a few games and the band wagoners will forget.

Doesn't change our coaching issue, but wishing poorly upon the team will not help us at all.

I have your back on this.

What I don't understand is why there seems to be more weight placed on a good W compared to a bad L. This team has had both although maybe a couple more good W's. Plus winning just 30% of their last 10 contests should have some bearing on the committee.

If the Gophers make it in, it will be a classic back-in job.

Gophers played bad in he first half, because they had bad players in the game. Elliot is the only big ten caliber player on the bench and he is a marginal player who may get better (I am shocked is offense game didn't improve from his freshman year). The two fouls in the first half rule has cost the Gophers five wins this year. Every rule has an exception, but our coach is unable to make an exception or a in game adjustments. Tubby looks like her is a deer in the head lights during the game. I am embarrassed to be a Gopher season ticket holder.

The part that people don't get is what does your conference record really matter? they look at your overall profile. If we play in the Summit then we our undefeated in our conference, the conference makes no difference! IMO what you are saying does make you a bad fan and I wouldn't even consider you a fun, this team has earned the right to go to the big dance. You can't just look at the way they are playing right now which seems to be what many people want to do. The people with the worst perception of the Gopher's position and whether they deserve to be in the tournament are some of our own ignorant fans.

All you have to remember is this team with the Caliber of the starting five finished in 9TH place in the big ten. I am hoping that we can compete with Rutgers next year as that may be the only possible win in Big Ten play.

Minnesota is spiraling but will still easily make the Field of 68

Minnesota finished with a losing record in the Big Ten and got bounced by Illinois (thanks to Brandon Paul's dagger at the buzzer) in Thursday's first round of the league tournament in Chicago, meaning the Gophers have now dropped 11 of their past 16 games and mostly looked miserable while doing it.

But they'll be in the Field of 68.

Anybody suggesting otherwise hasn't looked at their entire body of work.

Go Gophers!!

@gophersnow: Just heard from @jppalmCBS that he now sees the #Gophers as a No. 11 seed after Illinois loss.

That even seems a little low when you see he has teams like St. Mary's, Boise State, and Iowa State above them.

They're in, it's not even worth debating. As the great Baron Von Raschke used to say, "Dat is all da people need to know!"

All part of the plan to have an easier route to the Sweet 16 through lower seeded opponents than if we had a 7-10, right?

But seriously, we're not on the bubble. I would be upset and shocked if we didn't make it, particularly when you think about the teams truly on the bubble (St Mary's, ISU, etc.)

So that I understand this. If the gophers make it in, then the Big Ten places 8 or 9 teams in? Or the gophers get in ahead of a team or teams that one of which just beat them? I realize SOS and RPI are very good, but I don't remember lately a Big Ten team getting in ahead of others ahead of them in conference.

its 7 for now with iowa trying to play themselves in to make it 8.

Have you not been following this team all year, or following all that is written on the selection process?

Indiana, Michigan, MSU, Skunks, OSU, Illinois and Minnesota get in based on their entire season. Their RPI, strength of schedule, big wins against top 25 and top 50 teams.

Iowa doesn't have that but if they win two in the BTT, they have a shot.

Jerry Palm updated his bracket predictions and has us an 11 seed vs. Creighton. With the winner of that game up vs, the winner of Harvard and New Mexico. I would take that seeding in a heartbeat.

that is why I like the 11 seed better than the 8-9 seed. He has Illinois as an 8 playing NC State and then number 1 Louisville. What would you rather have?
