Perhaps he can provide a Guaranteed Offer!

Legit list:
1) Dungy - commentator on #1 show in TV
2) Lesnar - perhaps the most famous alum at this moment
3) Molitor - HOF
4) Alan Page - Alum of law school, perhaps MN’s greatest living person
5)
Carl Eller. Alan Page (doesn't have to be an alum).
Alan Page is an alum of U law school. Name a better person, I will wait.

Former U.S. Senator Michele Bachmann
or
Former U.S. Presidential Candidate and Minnesota Hopeful, Water Mondale.

Former ESPN talent, and TV talk show host, Craig Kilborn

Pearl Harbor Actor, Josh Hartnet
Michele Bachmann ????? You have lost your marbles.

I'm sure it is a joke. Why do names pop up however that don't have anything to do with University as to education? Calhoun went to Yale. The right for these honors should be for people who committed themselves to the University of Minnesota. Mauer who was going to go to Florida and Bachman who went to Winona College shouldn't even be mentioned. They choose not to attend the University. They built their own bridge elsewhere.
It's not like we're awarding honorary degrees here. It's a 5-minute bit on a TV show. Sometimes it's an alum, sometimes not. Two weeks ago at LSU, it was John Goodman. He's not an LSU alum. He's not even a native of Louisiana. He just happens to live in New Orleans.
Earlier this year, it was Eric Church at ISU. He has absolutely no ties to Iowa or Iowa State, other than playing a concert or two there.

Yeah, totally knew that, my bad...too focused on those alum who played for Gophs. He is my #1.

Tony is a great guy and all, but find him pretty boring. Would want someone well known, interesting and good TV. Think Brock #1, Decker #2, Molitor #3. That said, would be cool with an Eller/Bell double. How great would that be.

Gotta think it’ll be Dungy or Flair. Jessie the Body would be damn cool too.

I have my doubts Lesnar would do it. I believe he lives on a secluded ranch up in Canada now and only leaves for huge WWE paydays. The other wrinkle there is that the WWE just recently started a huge deal with Fox for one of their shows and its possible Fox wouldn't be happy with Lesnar appearing on ESPN.

As for Ric Flair, I would be nervous that he'd actually pick against the Gophers! As entertaining as he is, Ric sports fandom is about what the association with the team (or players) can do for Ric as opposed to any actual loyalty. At different times, he's been a vocal supporter of the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, and most recently the Atlanta Falcons. In the college game he's supported the Florida Gators, the Michigan Wolverines, and I believe now the Georgia Bulldogs. Honestly he's probably doing it right and the rest of us are doing it wrong, latch on to a team having success (especially if they will pay you or it will lead to endorsements/publicity) and then move on to the next thing. No actual emotions, just fun and money for the Nature Boy!

My guess is they will try to pick someone really old who has an association with one of the last great Minnesota football teams. It seems like every piece of publicity about this team (and the U is guilty of this too) has to remind us how terrible this program has been in addition to celebrating each successive win.

How about Tom Lehman sp? pro golfer from Alexandria I believe who I think went to the U but must admit I am not sure about that, back when Mason was the coach he was always promoting the program in public whenever he could and being a Masters champion, and I believe he won a few other major championships, he had a pretty big microphone back then. Anyway, I think he could be a very respected and well known top tier athlete many could appreciate for this appearance.

Lesnar was on the U campus working with the wrestling team, I’m pretty sure I saw a Facebook post about it at some point.

Him or Dungy seem the easy choices, just a matter of if they’re available and agree to come on the show.

Ric Flair...? He's in love with Michigan football. I've even seen him featured on the sidelines there.

Joe Mauer signed a letter of Intent to play football at Florida State... he should go to Gameday down in Tallahassee.

Bud Grant is the correct answer, although I wouldn't mind seeing Brock Lesnar if a pro wrestler is required. Bobby Bell or Tony Dungy would also be nice, but I think they're both too bland.

Nick Swardson would be an interesting wildcard... and probably the most entertaining of the bunch. He's never been a big Gopher booster, though.

Lehman did go to Minnesota and has often been nominated to be Gopher Golf coach.

Whalen, Winfield and Molitor are all good choices, but I would prefer to have Bobby Bell and Carl Eller do it together to tie into the old Gopher glory days!

Is Sandy Stephens still alive?

Not an alumn but how about John Legend? Would play well with the younger crowd and he's always tweeting about the Gophers and his nephew. I could see Brock or Whalen as their go to people.

Minnesota native, University of Minnesota graduate, and current US Senator Ron Johnson from the State of Wisconsin. The irony would be delicious.
