Weakling Wednesday Dropouts Updates

Grimm and Al.

I'll actually be in Northfield for the MIAC Quarter Playoff game, Augsburg vs Carleton, so I will only be able to follow on my phone anyway.

Usually MIAC games go quicker than Big 10 matchups, so perhaps I can catch the end in my car.

Believe it or not, the Gophers are still in. Current 3-way tiebreaker between Gophers, Iowa, and Northwestern falls Gophers and Hawkeyes way for the final 2 spots.

On to Pinnacle Arena we go, where the Gophers have never won. Now would be a good time.

Through February 25
15. Iowa (6-11)

Didn't expect that but tiebreakers are strange that way. Still feels like we have to win at least one of the last 3 or more accurately one of the 2 against Nebraska or Rutgers because beating Wisconsin right now feels like a pipe dream after these last two.

Probably because it was an Out of Sight/Out of Mind Peacock game, I messed up the Tip Off time for the Gophers, starting at 6p instead of what thought was 7p.

I did get to listen to most of the 1st half, which started ominously for the Gophers down 10-rip quickly.

Minnesota has now run the table in reverse for Big 10 Conference games on Peacock.

Anyway, it was a better night for the home team in Northfield as Carleton took out Augsburg.

The logjam for the final spot. ...

Rutgers and Nebraska both 7-10, Northwestern, Gophers, USC, and Iowa all 6-11. I must say, I like that there's some drama at the bottom of standings. Before the season started I wouldn't have said that. I'm now convinced there's no need for an 18-team tournament.

Penn State and Washington must win out to have a chance.

Iowa holding down the 15th AND 16th spots. Wow, that IS a logjam!!

Despite their best efforts, the gophs may actually stumble and fumble their way into Indianapolis

Still gotta win one more most likely and none of the 3 left are gimmies.

But two are on the road so at least Johnson won't have to go through the hassle of trying to make the home locker room look like an away locker room. :)

You're right they probably will have to win one more. BUT, it's entirely possible 3 of these 4 teams lose out too. Which would be an incredibly sad way to qualify, but a way nonetheless!

Iowa: @Northwestern, Michigan State, @Nebraska
Penn State: Maryland, @Wisconsin
Washington: Indiana, @USC, Oregon
USC: @Oregon, Washington, @UCLA

My GFs family lives in Bloomington Indiana and have indoctrinated me as an IU fan as well as a Minnesota fan, and my partner's law school spring break falls over the BTT. Long story short, got tickets for $7 each for her and I to attend the Wednesday games, and yet, it is looking like neither of my teams will be playing on the day I hope to attend. Oh well. Should be fun to go to those games anyways.

Penn State and Washington seem pretty locked in to two of the spots after PSU's loss to Indiana yesterday.

4 teams tied at 6-11. Solid chance the loser of the Iowa @ Northwestern game tomorrow night ends up being the 3rd team. We could qualify with 6 wins but getting to 7 pretty much seals it.

They will be 5+ dogs in all three games
Maybe, but I don't really worry about the point spread. If we play the way we are capable of playing and Dawson has a big game we can beat Nebraska and/or Rutgers.

Will be interesting to see if these last two loses lead to players throwing in the towel or if they will continue to keep trying to battle for wins. Hopefully the desire to extend their basketball careers as long as possible will motivate the seniors to keep playing hard.

This site lets you pick all of the outcomes of the remaining games and see the resulting tournament. It seems to indicate that we would want NW to beat Iowa if we want the gophers in the tournament. Much better off with Iowa in 2 or 3 team tiebreakers than NW.

Makes sense....head to head Northwestern has the edge over us now, so if we have to end up tied with someone it is way better for it to be Iowa.

And the Wisconsin game will feel like a road game. I smell a 3-0 sweep!

Fun site. If everything broke our way, we'd end up with the #10 seed.

Northwestern looks poised to take down Iowa which helps us should we end up in a tie breaker situation with iowa to avoid missing the BTT.

Iowa, I do believe clinched a spot in the bottom 3. Gophers seem unlikely to fall to the bottom even with all losses. ?

I don’t think that’s true. Iowa has two games remaining and could win one. If the Gophers lose all three, a distinct possibility, Hawkeyes finish ahead of us.

Michigan St and Nebraska on the road seem like mark it down losses for Iowa to me?
2 wins in their last 9 games. They just lost to a short handed NW in a winner take all by 9.
They lost to the Gophers at home in Iowa. Not seeing the victory.

Opportunity knocks in LIncoln this afternoon for the Gophers. Can they knock down the door? Let's try not backing into the Big Ten Tournament via the backdoor.
