Love this. Suggestion (perhaps too on the nose): this should be updated on Wednesdays…

I've probably written this before, but this is reminiscent of the English Premier League, but not quite as dramatic. In EPL, the bottom 3 teams at the end of the year are always "relegated" (i.e. kicked out of the league) and replaced by the three best teams promoted from the second league. Normally you wouldn't care about a match between the bottom dwellers, but in EPL, those are the ones with the highest stakes.

Stakes aren't nearly as high here, but toward the end of the season, a Rutgers/Northwestern game could be more interesting than it otherwise would be.

What type of odds do you have to give for the Gophers to NOT appear on this list at any point throughout the rest of the regular season?

Gophers could use a Washington loss here. Come on Ducks, help us out.

Current #WeaklingWednesdayDropouts having a productive evening tonight, and all on the road.

Ohio State W

Minnesota W

Washington in a tight one @ Oregon

I'm not sure which is more sublime/difficult for me to fathom:

- Washington at Oregon is being televised on BTN.

OR

- The game has implications for the Gophers even qualifying for the Big 10 Tournament Field.

Advantage...Push.

Crazy part is that we are just 1 game out of being tied, in terms of conference wins at least, with the 9th place team. Lot of very mediocre looking teams in the conference.

There are not many consistently good teams. A lot of average to below average teams on most nights. It seems the number of transfers really hitting hoops, and such inconsistency in how they play.

If we were in the SEC, we’d be talking about competitive balance, how hard it is to win in the SEC, and bolstering the conference’s reputation.

The SEC is currently a much tougher bkb conference.
This year it definitely is. Probably a 12-13 bid league this year. Kinda reminds of the old section 5A for boys hockey where that tournament was harder then the A state tournament in the late 90s early 2000s

Remember your mediocre comment after the team wins a few more.

Over the last 10 years, the modal number of conference teams making the tournament was 8. In that period it's been as low as 4 and as high as 10. So, if we take half of the 4 new teams, I'd say 10 teams, maybe 11.

A factor looking forward: schedule. I mentioned the fact that this team was given a front-loaded schedule a week ago and was mocked by the usual suspects for excuse mongering but here are the facts.

Oregon and Michigan State will be the opponents completing the first half of our conference schedule. If you count Michigan State twice, our opponents in the first half of the schedule have a combined conference record (as of today) of 53-27. We will have played only two opponents with losing conference records as of today. One we beat on the road and the other we lost to by one point in double overtime in a game where we missed 15 free throws.

If you count Penn State twice and Wisconsin once, the opponents in the back half of our schedule have a combined conference record (as of today) of 33-48.
