We need Royce

This comment, amongst others on this thread, are diminishing you from being taken seriously on this topic. Your apparent wish to suit up any superstar regardless of his behavior is evidently clouding your judgement.

Counter to your contention about knowing all relevant facts, this wasn't exactly the Great Brinks Robbery! There are just a very few facts to sort out here and some of us have been made privy by sources directly involved about exactly what transpired and are stated on the police report.

We can agree that an appropriate decision will be something we will have to live with, but I doubt that Tubby will be making this decision alone. Contrary to what you might think, the "school's integrity" is very important to certain donating alum and other benefactors, so it's obviously more important to the school's administrators and Board of Regents than it apparently is to you. The basketball program suffered embarrassing black eyes in the 70s, 80s and 90s and the current situation will be handled with that ugly legacy in mind.

You obviously don't know all of the facts and your claim that you do is laughable. Further, I don't condone bad behavior despite your claim that I do. But as far as Royce goes what he did before he was at the U doesn't matter and Royce hasn't been found guilty of any serious crimes.
The U will get a bigger black eye if it uses Communist style justice. Not many recruits will want to come here if they are put under the microscope to be held accountable for stuff they did as kids before enrolling here and things they are alleged to or rumored to have done. I think those who are acting like self righteous witchhunters are doing a big disservice to the program and the University.

Wow !!

Wow. Communist? Really? (one of your best posts! )

I think the U is going to hold him accountable for his activities since enrolling at the U and accepting a scholarship. The U overlooked the lads checkered past and gave him a scholarship. He was kicked out of one or more dorms based on unacceptable behavior. He now stands charged of at least 2 crimes and is involved in some manner in a theft of a laptop. All of these incidents occurred while on scholarship and enrolled at the U.

Communists might just march him into the basement and be done with it.

Joel and Tubby have suspended him from the team, scholarship still in force, until the legal problems are resolved. This seems appropriate to me.

"involved in some manner in a theft of a laptop."

Isn't he just a suspect? If so, its wrong to say he was involved.

Now you are a major in...

Now you are a major in Grammar and Semantics! You are a constant source of amusement. :) :) :)

I understand the hair you are trying to split, but he is involved in the theft of a laptop because he is a SUSPECT !!!!

Can we make a separate CaliforniaGopher argument thread? It was amusing for a while, but if I read the words prejudge, prejudiced, and mean-spirited one more time, I might go insane. I feel like I just read the same arguments over and over. I have no problem with people debating on here, but I think everyone can agree (maybe not CaliforniaGopher, he disagrees with everyone) that this is getting a little overboard and going nowhere.

Good idea. We could just as well rename this thread the "CG Argument Thread".

You're kidding me right? Its wrong to say a suspect or possible suspect was involved in an incident as if it is an an established fact. This is prejudice. Being in the vicinity of a crime doesn't mean you committed a crime. If you believe what you posted you would be disqualified to serve as a juror.

Yes, Your Honor.

Or we could rename the thread the Self Righteous and Prejudicial RoyceHaters Club.

CaliforniaGopher is an idiot

I agree, the dude is out of his mind

If I'm not mistaken, Royce was arrested AT the scene of the crime. He needs to go up and stop making such dumb mistakes.

You're kidding me right? If you believe what you posted you would be disqualified to serve as a juror.

The only way I'd ever want to be a juror is if you were one of the lawyers involved. I'd love to see you in action. Kind of kidding...

I'm sure you are a fine person, but your take on the Rodney issue is beyond understanding.

This thread is priceless....who needs loon and wren when we have cali gopher.....priceless Jerry....Priceless...

Yes, Your Honor.

What in the world are you talking about? Do you have any idea how the justice system works at all? I love how everyone here is crucifying Royce over the laptop incident when he is nothing more than a suspect and nothing has come forward to prove him to be at all guilty.

You people are absolutely ridiculous. He's a suspect so he must be guilty right? You are all so above him right? No one has been wrong accused of anything before? How would everyone else like if this was you. You have a checkered past so if you were anywhere in the vicinity of a crime we should accuse you and make you a suspect. And by the logic most of you have used here, checkered past + suspect = GUILTY right?

I only wish I was as perfect and self righteous as all of you.

When you can't win arguing the facts, resort to personal attacks. Nice job.

That's how people here defend themselves when you post some facts that aren't 100 percent all Rah Rah Gophers...If you look at things realistically when things aren't going so well, you're a terrible person here!

White will never be able to get his act together as long as he has "friends" whispering in his ear about how everyone is out to get him because he "only" shoplifted ("no big deal, man!"), pushed a guard down ("no big deal, man!"), got kicked out of a dorm ("no big deal, man!"), got kicked out of a high school ("no big deal, man!"), is suspected of stealing a laptop ("no big deal, man!") because he was seen in a dorm he was already banned from ("no big deal, man!"), while not endearing himself to fans for his all too frequent public snits on the basketball court ("no big deal, man!").

Whether or not CaliforniaGopher is one of White's "friends" (I suspect it, he denies it ... BTW he's a lawyer) doesn't really matter, because I have no doubt that White is hearing the same BS from other "friends". Enablers like CaliforniaGopher and others like him are just the type of "friends" that White should be distancing himself from.

Thanks GG, I just had a bellylaugh just remembering some of those "Prexy" wren Gems...

...And when the video tapes and DNA results come back, I'm sure CG will say that the camera operator and lab tech were actually secret, decorder-ring-wearing members of the "Self Righteous and Prejudicial RoyceHaters Club" and unqualified to meet CG's hair-splitting standards of guessing the precise number of angels dancing on the head of a pin.

This post sums it up pretty well. Maybe CG can calm down and let it be now.

Where do you get the idea that it's just because he's a suspect in the laptop incident? Do we need to go over the list of other crap he's done? I really thought Royce would clean up his act after high school and then I really thought he would clean it up after the dorm stuff, but he's continued to disappoint, so it's understandable why people are fed up with him on here. I know you aren't as oblivious to Royce's actions as CaliforniaGopher is.

Based on the content of most of your posts, you're well on your way.

I believe in the legal system over bulletin board tribunals and I believe in rehabilating our youth not persecuting them. Prejudice wrapped in sarcasm is still prejudice.

Royce's status . . .

Here is how I would sum up Royce's series of current collegiate problems (from most significant to most unknown), from the perspective of someone without inside info:

1. Royce has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft/shoplifting and misdemeanor fifth degree assault. The charges themselves are very concerning, albeit legally inconclusive at this point. At the same time, the evidence is reported to be pretty strong. Under these circumstances and especially considering Royce's history, the suspension is warranted until the case is resolved. Moreover, further discipline might also be warranted, depending on whether the case results in any actual conviction(s). It is possible that the case will be resolved more favorably than expected or that there is some unknown fact that will come out to change the analysis. Stranger things have happened. But at least based on the reports so far, it seems that such a result is unlikely, and it would be a very reasonable expectation that Royce will have at least one misdemeanor conviction. If so, I would expect consequences and some requirements showing rehabilitation and a true commitment to the team. Royce needs to get his act together to stay on the team, especially given his history.

2. Royce is reported to have been kicked out of one or more dorms. The reason for these decision(s) is unknown, but it is concerning so early in his collegiate career. Moreover, it reinforces a concern that Royce has not dealt with his behavior problems.

3. Royce's designation as a suspect in the dorm laptop incident means little, especially without more information. Why is Royce a suspect? How many other suspects are there? Etc. I actually think it was irresponsible to report this issue, but I understand why it happened given Royce's history. Without more, the designation as a suspect is relatively meaningless. Perhaps Royce is not one of many suspects, but a prime suspect. Even initial prime suspects have been cleared, such as in the Atlanta Olympic bombing case and the anthrax cases. Again, I don't know, but I suspect that there is not much evidence against Royce at this time because he has not even been charged. Thus, at this point, there is not even sufficient evidence amounting to probable cause, let alone to conclude that he was somehow involved in this potential crime. To conclude that he did something wrong here (based on the publicly available info) would be jumping the gun. We need more info.

Without the dorm incident, Royce has done plenty to raise doubts about his potential advantages as a member of the Gophers. As a fan, I still hope he works through the issues and becomes a star Gopher. But I want that only if he truly is committed to cleaning up his act and to the team.

As a realist, I have significant doubts about Royce--I certainly would not bet on Royce's success at this point. And I also hope that someone is carefully considering damage control (as seems to be the case), considering when Royce's potential cons might outweigh his potential pros.

Based on what I know, Tubby and Maturi seem to be doing a good job with a difficult situation.

I believe in holding our so-called youth accountable for their actions. Royce White should be suspended for at least a year. My preference would be to expell him from school forever. Once a person reaches the age of 18 they should not be able to play the "Youth Card" anymore. I know an 18 year old "man" with a wife and two kids. He goes to school and work everyday and is a model citizen. I am not going to cut an 18 year old who has been handed a college education on a silver platter any slack. The U needs to get rid of White. The sooner the better.

I agree that I am prejudiced. For example, I don't like QB's who can't pass. Adam Weber should take a seat on the end of the bench. We have a highly recruited QB from Indiana who should be given a chance to show what he can do. The sooner the better.

Nobody says he shouldn't be held accountable for what he does, but you are going overboard. Expulsion based on allegations, rumors and what you think happened?? Proud of being prejudiced?? I'm glad Maturi and Tubby have a lot more sense than you.

Send a message that is something like this.... Tubby might not make the player an NBA player but he will be made into a man!!!

Wow

EmDub, if there was a trophy for most well thought out, articulated, and rational first posts on the Gopher Hole, I do believe you'd seize it.

Scenarios like the last 5 minutes of this game is why we need royce. Portland tried to had us this game, but we needed a superstar to take over the scoring at the end. Instead we had bad 3's by hoff, Rodney, and westbrook. Plus anyone else think Rodney has been exposed some this tournament as a little overrated. Don't get me wrong I think he will be a star, but against teams with talent he has been shut down pretty easily.

Tubby's the one who shut him down. 6 minutes???? Come on
