Updates About Penn State Scandal UPDATED 6/12: PSU has spent $45.9M on scandal

Beats the $hit out of the Strib Bitch Blog comment sections. :)

Some of those comment sections should be required reading.

It's always good to know how wacko some people can be.

Please cite one instance, just one, of me ever stating or even insinuating that I'm "always right". One. Just a single, solitary reference. I will leave this board forever and never come back if you can. I'll be waiting.

Since you won't find one, I kindly ask that you withdraw and apologize for your inflammatory and libelous remarks forthwith. Thank you in advance.

Last time it was something along the lines of, "show me where I said PSU would not be punished by the NCCA". $50 later and now you want someone to show you where you insinuated you're always right.

Completely unrelated news.... Insinuate: to introduce subtly.

Oh, the master of the incredibly thin skinned. The saga of one. I never suggested that you were always right. I was pointing out the other guy's comment was diametrically opposed to itself by pointing out a person, any person, can not be both perfect and imperfect at the same time. But, no, you had to take it as a slight to yourself. You can be sooooo dim witted at times. Crawl back under your rock.

(Dpo, here's a clue... I'm playing you off against the crowd. Don't take it so personal. I like you more than you know.)

But don't you want to slap him around at times? He is one of the things that makes the GopherHole so entertaining and does serve an important purpose here. I describe him being like the sheriff who the town's people bring in to clean up the place but once it is done they want him to leave.:)

You are correct, sir. We love Dpo for his fact checking - sheriff routine.

Just trying to help out DPO

Yeah, well they are entitled to their opinion. As far as I am concerned, those players don't exist anymore.

The multiple legal challenges to the sanctions by Trustees, former players and the Paterno family just proves how tone deaf and myopic the entire PSU clan was and continues to be regarding this issue.

Or, they could (correctly) be aware that the NCAA had no grounds whatsoever to hand down these sanctions and are using the legal system in hopes of redressing their perfectly legitimate grievances.

Except that the NCAA is a club with membership which only requires the support it's members. The members support Emmert on the sanctions (including PSU's president and several members of the board). Even if the NCAA were to lose this, it would turn around and deliver the 4yr death penalty as a response. And in my opinion, will anyway if this goes to court.

Exactly, just like the NFL. Either agree to the bylaws of membership or You can play club football. Case closed.

These are curious points to raise, given that former PSU players and the Paterno family are not NCAA members and are not bound by any rules of membership.

That would also suggest that they have no standing to bring a lawsuit given the fact that they seemingly are not materially harmed by the NCAA's action.

It is hard to imagine any court willing to inject themselves into a lawsuit among the Penn State President and Board of Trustees, Joe Paterno family, Penn State football players, Penn State students, and Penn State Alumni. If you add up all of the bad things and negative publicity that occurred at the U over the last 50 years it would only equal a minute fraction of what Penn State is going to have to deal with for the foreseeable future.

Shouldn't Penn State President have final say in PSU issues? If I were PSU president I would put those who try to challenge the office into the legal corner. So, it will shut them up once and for all. Now, it seems everyone from PSU is saying he/she represents the school. It is acceptable to assume that they belong to PSU. However, it is absurd to assume or act like they own the university.
Neither BoT nor its members should have authority to act according to their personal judgements. They can make a motion to sack president but they can't or shouldn't act beyond their mandates. I believe that PSU is having organizational issue at this moment. It seems very chaotic to me. I think they should down size the number of trustees to about 9. It is way too ineffective to menage with over 30 trustees. I can't even imagine how they arrange meetings and convene to discuss important issues. If they want to make drastic changes they should start with reformation of BoT.

I agree. When does it become time for the Big Ten to say enough is enough and kick Penn State out of the conference. I was encouraged when Penn State decided not to appeal the sanctions and move on....make sure that changes are made to ensure something like this can never happen again and through their future actions put this behind them and the Big Ten. Now this. Penn State continues to bring embarrassment to the Big Ten!

T-shirt available in the student book store (apparently similar to our own SBS) on the PSU campus:

The comparison is quite hyperbolic, but the general sentiment is right on the money.

Very Brian Bosworth.

It's refreshing to see that PSU and Happy Valley are taking steps to change the culture and move forward in a positive manner. Simply amazing.

Watch the NCAA sue them for trademark infringement.

Those shirts should say, "Covering up for a Sexual Predator since 1996."

+1000

I realize this is an independent book store, but it obviously accounts for the sentiment of a significant chunk of the PSU population if there are people who will buy the shirt. And that said, it shows just how out of touch PSU supporters continue to be on this. It's hard to forgive people when they don't repent.

I would not have expected anything less!

Quite the conundrum for the edgy (and sadly misinformed) undergrad wearing a CHE t shirt one day then throwing "the party" under the bus the next while proclaiming to all that too many dipsticks can walk a college campus.

I understand that that the hammer and sickle can very cleverly be inserted as a "C", but where in the communist manifesto does Marx lay down his edicts about private business associations levying fines against members and vacating college sports victories?

Or was that in The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte and I just missed that section?
