Tyus Jones to Duke.

Have we offered yet? In all seriousness though, I wonder how young the youngest person to ever get offered was.

I seem to recall hearing that Lute O. offered a 7th grader while he was at UA

If Tyus chooses the Gophers, all of that will change the second he steps on campus. He will be playing for a good team no matter where he goes.

For the most part I agree with this. But then realistically, he could go to a program that could win a national title. I love my Gophers as much as anyone, but odds are, if he comes here, that will not happen. Now if he, Rashad, and some other high level kids all wanna go Fab Five on us and take the Gophers to their highest heights, then okay, but it's pretty hard to project that one lol.

per Shooter:

"It looks like Michigan State and Duke lead the early recruiting sweepstakes for Apple Valley sophomore point guard Tyus Jones, with Minnesota in third place. Jones made an unofficial visit to East Lansing the other day, and Duke is said to be willing to bypass the signing of any other point guards if Jones will commit."

Shooter with the breaking news that everyone in the south metro has known for over a year....

Amazing atmosphere tonight at Burnsville HS as Eastview beat rival Apple Valley to advance to State.

It was so full people were sitting in the aisles and about 1,000 fans were turned away at the door.

Tubby, Donna and Trevor were all in attendance.

Go Gophers!!

Wow that's crazy. Too bad Trevor and Tyus will never play college ball together, regardless of where he goes, Trevor seems to like Tyus. Apparently he tweeted something along the lines of "Watching Tyus Jones' high school basketball game. #futuregopher"

Another thing Tubby can now use to appeal to Tyus: We won more postseason games than Duke this season.

What was Tyus' demeanor after the loss? I don't know if there is a "best" demeanor that I look for, but it's interesting to see how kids (and adults) react after a big game.

When I lose a game of horse I usually cry. I usually lose. And cry.

Not sure why you are asking, but last year when in their season ending game he quit passing to his big center and went ball hog mode and missed a lot of forced shots and drives. When the coach threw in the towel and pulled him out he shafted the coaches low-five and walked past him like he wasn't there.

Just an observation I noticed.

Gotta love the last part:

It's about things more important than wins and losses and personal gain, he said. It's about loyalty. It's about home.

"My family is here," Jones said. "They're the ones always supporting me and helping me along. The guys on my team are the guys I grew up with, playing together since traveling [team] days. We know that if we can just keep it together, we can be successful."

I still think he ends up at Duke/MSU, but if Gophers continue the NIT run this year and parlay it into an NCAA win or two next year, him and the other 2014 studs may decide they are the missing pieces to take Minnesota to the promised land and all commit together a la Phillip Nelson, Andre McDonald, etc.

Finishing strong and bringing that momentum into next season would certainly help our cause. The team has been much more exciting to watch the last couple games and if they keep it up it really doesn't seem unrealistic that guys like Tyus and/or Rashad would want to stick around.

Tyus always shows up behind the bench at the big Gopher games....maybe he has more interest in being a Gopher than just free tickets.

Or, you know, he visits when Tubby asks him to?

I hope so. I would be ecstatic if he commits here. Despite what some people say, there is definitely a chance.

It just depends on what he wants. He could go to a place like Duke and possibly win a NC. He would certainly get a lot of attention nationally. But he would also just be another great player in their history.

Or he could stay home and help put his hometown school "back on the map", even winning a conference championship and/or making a run in the tourney. He would certainly be remembered for a long time in our neck of the woods. Either way, I think if he's good enough, he'll be a lottery pick no matter where he goes.

I certainly wouldn't blame him for going to Duke or Michigan St.

Who knows, if Rashad commits with him, maybe they could win a championship here too? We certainly wouldn't be lacking in talented guards, that's for sure. Committing to Minnesota doesn't necessarily forfeit the idea of winning a national championship, but I understand what you're saying. I think Tyus could achieve a lot here.

It's the difference between Lidsay Whelan and Allan Anderson. Both had excellent success on the college level team wise, but who is remembered? I bet very few people know who Allan Anderson is, but almost everyone knows Lindsay. MSu faithful probably remember him, but he is no Matean Cleaves.

If Tyus knows what's good for him, he will avoid Coach K. I really struggle with the locals that the Gophers want going to another B1G school. It would be tough seeing him play against us for two or three years.

Seems to me the writing is on the wall with Tyus. It's the same way I felt about Cory Joseph. It smells of polite lip service that Tyus even mentions the Gophers, but this one would sting a lot more because he's an in-state, nationally elite talent.

I don't think he's coming here and that certainly would be a black mark for Tubby, moreso if Tyus stays within the walls of the B1G (MSU or OSU, most likely).

Holy Man, the Anderson/Whalen comparison is very interesting and so true. I hadn't thought of it like that, but it's a great comparison.

Tyus Jones of Apple Valley: Pioneer Press 2012 boys basketball player of the year

Jones also admits he is feeling some heat to stay home and play at Minnesota.

"I am hearing from the local people that if I stay at home, all of the great players will follow,'' Jones said. "Most people have been pretty respectful of this process and are allowing me to take it slow.''

If he committed to Minnesota, I guarantee you Vaughn would be committed by the next day. If Tyus comes to the U, everything will be on the up and up.

Also, can you guys imagine a 1, 2, and 3 of Tyus Jones, Andre Hollins, and Rashad Vaughn? Wow, that would be an incredible up tempo group.

It's true - if he comes here they will follow. Tyus could really kick-start this program for good just by commiting.

Wasn't there a top 10 Center (maybe top 10 overall player) in the same class who was hinting at wanting to play with Tyus wherever he went? Can't remember the name but I remember seeing a story on it. That'd be nice...
