Transfer list possibilities, Spring 2020

Take it easy, I love the Gophers. But yeah I made the comparison of Garza and Iowa to Minnesota because we don't have guys like that. I'd much rather relate things to Minnesota and how we're doing or can change/improve. Seems more like any opportunity to go and there gone here. How you run a program/guys you bring in no doubt have a lot to do with that.

I wanna win in Minnesota. And sure you can call that another shot at Pitino because I don't think we're gonna win here with him.

All programs have it. I mean in this very thread there is a guy transferring from Iowa, which comes exactly a year after Iowa star Tyler Cook joined Amir Coffey in the G League/NBA game of hide and seek, and Isiah Moss grad transferred from the Hawkeyes to Kansas. So, no program is exempt.

I mean Jordan Murphy could have taken a G League deal the previous year and came back to the Gophers. So, I don't see much that Iowa has built in keeping guys that Pitino hasn't. Plus, we don't even know for if Garza is staying. That's why it was a weird way to take a shot at Pitino that I wasn't understanding.

That said, I'm with you in that I want the Gophers to win. Let's hope they do. Clearly, the clock is ticking.

Fair enough and my research is little to none. I do know most schools just have a mass exodus of guys headed to the NBA so it's not just us. It all just comes down to Gophs need to win and we aren't. Most arguments do.

Why? BTW- I can't for the life of me figure out why Garza would stay.... If there ever has been a player that has peaked out at the college level, it's him.

Projections have him at best a late second round pick. Sure, he can score, but he can't defend anything. Iowa was terrible defensively this year, and he's the main reason why.

7-footer from Drake, averaged 14pt/7reb as a soph is tranferring. Iowa is the early favorite. Kid's hometown is same as Ed Conroy. Maybe Conroy can work some magic. He'd be a nice get, especially if the NCAA gives a thumbs up to the "one-time transfer without sitting out" in the June vote.

Would be a real good fit here. If Iowa has any scholarships they'd be my bet. Iowa native that could sit for a year and take over for Garza.

Nebraska just got Trey Mcgowens
Is Hoiberg paying these kids or what? That documentary is in my head. If not, he is a fantastic transfer recruiter. I'd like to think he's an honest guy but he has been getting a bunch of quality transfers for years at Iowa St. and now Nebraska.

I saw something that Conroy is a relative. Came from a friend of mine.

He did one year at Sunrise Christian Academy, so a possible Kyle Linsted connection ad well.

Fred can sell a great facility, playing time and a rap about playing in the NBA which carries influence with some recruits.

So there have been 4 posts on the poor kid and no one has mentioned his name.

His name is Liam Robbins and sounds like a good target.

Robbins, a 7-foot, 235-pound sophomore from Davenport, is just starting to show his potential. He is coming off a breakout season that saw him average a team-high 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Robbins ranked fifth in the nation in blocks with 2.91 per game. His 99 blocks were a school record. Robbins was named second-team all-Missouri Valley Conference as a sophomore.

I don't think anyone's sitting for a year, with the covid19 stuff. He could claim he needs to be closer to home, which Iowa City technically is to Davenport.

Doesn't seem like a coincidence to have Pemsl transfer, now this kid Robbins transferring.

So about Liam Robbins:

First, and this was sort of mentioned above, but Conroy is his uncle. That's very interesting.

Second, I've seen him play in person a dozen times the past two years. His improvement has been remarkable. He came out of a small high school (Davenport Assumption) as a 300-pounder. Nobody was interested, so he went to Sunrise for a year. Still not much interest, so he landed at Drake.

Last year, as a slimmed-down freshman, he was awkward and ungainly and only mildly productive. This year he was smooth and confident. He was a solid rebounder and rim protector on the defensive end, and able to hit a jumper as well as play with his back to the basket on the offensive end.

Color me intrigued - not necessarily for where his skills are right now, but for his trend line.

If the transfer rule passes, I would think a big draw would be to come here and start right away vs sit behind Garza

Great info Urbandale!

Reggie Lynch was an overlooked high school player, who transferred from the same league, the MVC. Aside from how it turned out for Lynch here, if this kid from Drake can produce like Lynch did in the Big Ten, it'd obviously be a big get for Minnesota.

I noticed the Gophers just named Ed Conroy the associate head coach, by the way.

Conroy worked a lot with Oturu developing his game maybe Robbins saw the results wants in.

Plus he doesn’t seem to be very interested in raising the team GPA. Not to infer anything about this recruit, but hasn’t Fred been know for taking project players?

Maybe there is a little bit of heat up with the Conroy deal. That sounds promising. Good deal.

Probably right and that would probably be best for us. Seemed like a lot of steam early between him and Iowa but maybe that was coming mostly from the Iowa side. It does seem like some positive momentum for us. Even saw an Iowa writer say if he had to pick his pick would be Minnesota as of now.

Robbins went 10-41 from 3 last year (up from 3-13 freshman year).

Oturu went 19-52 this year after going 1-2 last year. I was very impressed by this improvement. Conroy could definitely sell him on continuing to develop that part of his game.

Sounds like a very promising transfer possibly!

Your right, he would rarely see the floor at Iowa. I am not that big on him as there are other bigs i like more.

Played in the same conference as Reggie Lynch. Lynch had 2.8 blocks per game, and this guy had 2.9

He should be a defensive presence which right now, we have absolutely nothing.
