Tim Brewster to join the Mississippi State coaching staff as WR Coach

Not if your arguing with dpodoll. Plus, if you notice he already agreed with you on intent. As did I. Like I said, keep pissing away but it won't change anything when you're arguing with him. If he's got the facts on his side he'll just bulldog you. It's part of his charm. :)

No, they didn't agree on intent. It is one thing to say that he spun his resume, it is an entirely different claim to say that he specifically attempted to fool people into thinking that this was his record as a head coach. You don't normally speak of an assistant coach as having a record, but the records of teams for which they coached are relevant considerations when you hire a coach.

Name me one person, just one, that thought that Brew was a head coach before he was head coach here. How much friggin' clearer does it have to be.

Get off this worthless soapbox of yours. It's ancient history. Stop kicking the dead dog.

I made one comment about Brewster in this thread like everyone else was doing and dpodoll calls mine out and not the others. He's such a whiney little baby about everything and he stalks my posts. It's getting creepy.

And say what you want, but Brewster lied about his record, got busted for it, then changed it immediately. The spin you guys are putting on this is remarkable.

You're the only one who called Brew a liar and who pretended Brew added wins to his HC record. Everyone else was doing that? Hmmm.....

I called yours out because it was wrong. I have no agenda against you, other than correcting you for being wrong so frequently. It may seem as though I "stalk" your posts because I won't let you get away with misstating facts and often flat-out lying, as you have been doing repeatedly in this thread.

but Brewster lied about his record

No, he didn't. You are wrong. Very, very, unbelievably wrong. This isn't even a gray area. It's incredibly black-and-white. He did not lie about his record.

got busted for it

Got "busted"? By whom? For what? Obfuscation, at best? If you want to believe that he got "busted" for some nefarious plot, go ahead. Whatever fits into your Brewster-is-the-worst-human-being-in-recorded-history narrative.

The spin you guys are putting on this is remarkable.

If telling the truth and rebuking lies is "spin", I'm a veritable spinmaster.

What matters is the intent. You, me, and anyone with a brain knows what he was trying to do. You and dpodoll keep clinging to semantics if that makes you feel better defending him lying about his record. Wow.

What seems to matter is you are wrong and are trying to Brewster your story to make yourself look better.

He did not lie. It is unusual for a coach to talk about wins and losses as an assistant part of their record, but it is not a lie.

DMB...

Speaking of stalking... I just clicked on your user name and looked at your recent posting history. Lots of arguing, name calling, and provocative comments like "get a clue". Just an observation, but I'm guessing you will be in a lot of pissing contests if you are willing to pile on misguided arguments like Brewster was listing his head coaching record, or Jeff Dubay is currently on his second chance.

Can we possibility call it as an act of insinuating? Just wondering.

You believe these guys? They should all be in politics with how good they are at spinning stories to fit their agenda.

LOL. Seriously? Black and white? This is the definition of a gray area.

Yep. Still isn't lying though.

There's nothing wrong with hating the practice. That's cool. Frankly, I didn't care for that spin either. But don't try to pretend that Brew lied when he didn't. You'll get called out for it, and rightfully so.

LOL. Seriously? Black and white? This is the definition of a gray area.

No it's not. The world often has many shades of gray. This isn't one of those times. Either what was written was factual or it wasn't. It was factual, he didn't lie. There you go, in black and white.

You being pissy about it doesn't change the definition of what a lie is or the fact that Brew's statement about overall record wasn't one.

Good for Brewster. I wish him lots of luck down there.

From Brewster's official bio...

Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster has 21 years of coaching experience. Prior to joining the Maroon and Gold, Brew served tenures under coaching legends Mack Brown, Marty Schottenheimer and Mike Shanahan. Brewster has coached in 10 bowl games and played in two as a player at Illinois. In total, Brewster holds a coaching record of 113-61-1 (.645). Coach Brewster has also made headlines as an outstanding recruiter. He has inked the likes of NFL stars Vince Young and Chris Sims at Texas and Alge Crumpler at the University of North Carolina.

If you are a first time head coach you don't have a career record people. Assistant coaches don't have records.

Go ahead and defend that. I guess I actually believe people should be called out for their blatant dishonesty. The bio I just posted above was an embarrassment to my school and the football program, and he was rightfully called out about it by the media.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but DMB123 could technically be correct. I looked up the definition of "lie" so I could state that it was obvious that Brewster did not lie, but see the second definition from the fine folks at Merriam-Webster:

Definition of LIE
intransitive verb
1: to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive
2: to create a false or misleading impression

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lie?show=2&t=1345743280

I have never heard anyone use the second definition, but apparently it is legit. I learned something new today. I always thought the untrue part was a requirement, otherwise it was deception.

Brewster did NOT say anything untrue. Teams he coached did win the number of games he claimed, and it did not say those wins came as a Head Coach. You may not like him claiming those wins, and that's fine (I don't either), but it doesn't mean it's not factual.

We should all thank Coach Mullen that we wont have to listen to Brewster's cliche's as a game analyst anymore.

Just stop. It says coaching record not head coaching record.

That being said, Brewster did NOT say anything untrue. Teams he coached did win the number of games he claimed, and it did not say those wins came as a Head Coach.

You saved me some typing. Brewster must have taken a PR class somewhere along the line, because what he did was classic PR. It's misleading if not spelled out clearly, but that doesn't make it a blatant lie. A better way to say it would have been "In his tenure as a college player and college/pro assistant coach, the teams with which Brewster was associated amassed a record of 113-61-1." Hardly rolls off the tongue (or into the eyeballs) with the same effect.

I can understand that some are still sore about Brewster, but get over it.

Read the labels at the grocery store everybody.

Mississippi State hired Brew in anticipation of a CapitalOne Bowl game versus Michigan State; Brew OWNS Dantonio!

It is interesting looking back at the guys on his staff.....

If you are a first time head coach you don't have a career record people.

If you have previous coaching experience? Sure you do. Most people don't publicize it, but of course they do. You're sadly mistaken if you don't think that assistants pump up the success of the teams they've coached for. That's no different than stating their "career record".

Assistant coaches don't have records.

Sure they do. Head coaching records? No. Again, that's not what he said.

Go ahead and defend that.

Who's defending it? I wouldn't have done it. I don't think many people would. It still doesn't make it a lie.

I guess I actually believe people should be called out for their blatant dishonesty.

The...hyprocrisy is...too overwhelming...must...refrain...from...pointing..it...out. Oops, I couldn't restrain myself.
