Biggest difference in yesterday's game was OL play and defensive back play. Iowa's Oline play was great and getting to the next level on the linebackers. Gopher's QB really struggled yesterday, he was staring down receivers and really struggled to throw to the correct read. QB was just really off on throws and moving off his first read. Any routes out of the backfield had to be quicker routes. Should have thrown to Geers more, he was getting open in the middle, I hated the first down runs we tried early, they were predictable calls and didn't break any tendency's.

Agree to a large degree. Only two other states to compare to in that respect and one seems to do well.

Gopher coaches would do well to watch tape of Utah offense, which destroyed Colorado last night, with some very productive and creative play-calling.
 


After reading these threads the recurring sentiment is recruiting is the issue. Cignetti brought 1/2 of a team and has been successful playing portal roulette. He now has established his reputation for success. Going forward he will have success in hs recruiting. Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Cleveland all have big time hs football. They are within a 4-1/2 hour drive of Bloomington. It means a lot if your family can drive to your home games. High schools in Ohio have 7 divisions with 12 teams out of 16-20 teams in each division. And play a 10 game regular season. Even the small town my nephew was from has a 5,000 seat stadium and modern weight room. They are on their 2nd field turf field with large screen replays. In 25 years.They have reserved seats which are sold out . They play in a 8 team league. There setup is the same for 6 of the 8 teams. They are D2 team which is a big step below the top D1 schools. Thie top of the D2 heap is Massillon. There stadium seats 18,500. They have luxury boxes for sponsors. Their indoor practice faculty is D1 college level. Thei basketball teams suck and they don’t have hockey. With all that they have 11 state championship (2023) since the playoff era began in 1982. Kids coming out of these programs are well coached and battle tested. Minnesota kids are behind the curve when competing with this.

Nebraska under Rhule 8-1 loss to Colorado 88% winning percentage
Illinois under Beilema 12-3 80% winning percentage
Loss to Virginia, Kansas, and UTSA

Hard to compare Fickell because he had to play bama twice
Hard to compare Iowa because Ferentz has been there since the Clinton administration

I just reread my post. Typed it on my phone while being a passenger. Lots of typos and misspellings. Bottom line is that Fleck and staff need to be virtually living in this Midwest football hotbeds where talent is forged through good competition.

Yeah, people saying who would we hire if Fleck left, are really missing the boat here. It's the Big Ten and the SEC and that's it, minus a handful of teams. If you are a big time coach, those are the two conferences you want to be in. Period. Every one of those jobs, no matter which one, is a good one. Some better than others obviously, but all excellent jobs.

If I'm Minnesota and I'm going to be serious, and finally compete for a championship, I pick up the phone, I call Josh Brooks and I ask to speak with Glenn Schumann. I offer him 7 million plus to start, with a big asst coach pool and a guaranteed amount in NIL that allows you to roster a playoff team and I let him do his thing(I'm also lol'ing as a write this because yeah, the U will do that, right when the Pohlads realize the Twins aren't a gas station). Now, of course, like Dan lanning before him, he has options. But what the fuck are we even bothering for if we aren't going to get serious and try? LSU waited a day after A&M, a better team than LSU this year btw, and Kelly was gone. Poof. Here's 54 Million, go away. 3 game losing streak, bye bye. That's a serious administration. Are we LSU, no. That offense versus Iowa should have gotten someone fired if you're a serious fucking program. That was pathetic. And it can't be explained away by anything other than shit coaching because by this staffs own admissions, this is the best roster they've had. Great group. Go to work. Tons of talent. Guys pushing each other. That is not what I just witnessed. I saw a Big Ten offense look like it's being coached by a junior high volunteer. And that defense, you made the SDSU kid look like fucking Josh Allen. News flash, Iowas QB is NOT GOOD. He should only look like Allen on Thanksgiving Thursday in his uncle's backyard. I did something I never do and I just turned it off at 31-0, hit record just in case their was any redeeming moment, at all, to go back and watch, nope. Nothing.
