This is a fireable offense

Biggest difference in yesterday's game was OL play and defensive back play. Iowa's Oline play was great and getting to the next level on the linebackers. Gopher's QB really struggled yesterday, he was staring down receivers and really struggled to throw to the correct read. QB was just really off on throws and moving off his first read. Any routes out of the backfield had to be quicker routes. Should have thrown to Geers more, he was getting open in the middle, I hated the first down runs we tried early, they were predictable calls and didn't break any tendency's.

The freshman QB really looked like it yesterday.

Gophers OL was overwhelmed
Bad combo

Again, strong HS hockey in MN is not the problem.
Need to make this a little more clear. Strong high school hockey is NOT a reason for Gopher football mediocrity.

It IS a reason why high school football isn't as strong in this state as it is in some other states.

Agree to a large degree. Only two other states to compare to in that respect and one seems to do well.

Memphis HC?
Lost to 3-4 UAB to cost them the playoff

Last year lost to 7-6 UTSA to cost them a playoff birth

Was 11-13 his first 24 games in the American conference

Good enough for me, but pitchfork nation is out
Would be fired by year 3 if he matched his Memphis resume here

Thi
People here are talking like MSU, Northwestern and Wisconsin wins are a lock. I thought for sure two of three of those were high probability, but not so sure now. DT is probably done, and even if he's not, another injury will spring up for him. The Gopher offense has looked horrendous without him in all Power 5 games (not just this year) even in a few narrow wins.

So that put's the season at 7-5 or 6-6 likely with another shit bowl while our peers to the south get another NYD or equivalent bowl. All because Ferentz owns Fleck. I'm over it.

Honestly, I thought I was over Fleck in 2023 but then he somehow ends up landing some nice recruits and Brosmer that made last year palatable.
This!!!

They wouldn't have taken Cignetti either. Non HC...OC at Oregon.

I personally think if you get rid of Fleck that’s the route you go.
Gotta hire someone who is an X and O guru

It’s more risky but more upside
If you get rid of fleck you aren’t doing it to raise the floor, you’re doing it to raise the ceiling.

Not sure who that guy is but Oregon OC could be one

Young but has a decent amount of experience.

Fleck was a no brainer
But so were Fickell and frost

I think we are more likely to make a playoff hiring a coordinator than a 3rd place American coach
Making $1.75 million. Pay him like $5.5 million and add the other $2 million to the assistant coaching pool.

Lincoln Riley's brother is another interesting one to look at...OC at Clemson.

Gopher coaches would do well to watch tape of Utah offense, which destroyed Colorado last night, with some very productive and creative play-calling.

After reading these threads the recurring sentiment is recruiting is the issue. Cignetti brought 1/2 of a team and has been successful playing portal roulette. He now has established his reputation for success. Going forward he will have success in hs recruiting. Cincinnati, Louisville, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, and Cleveland all have big time hs football. They are within a 4-1/2 hour drive of Bloomington. It means a lot if your family can drive to your home games. High schools in Ohio have 7 divisions with 12 teams out of 16-20 teams in each division. And play a 10 game regular season. Even the small town my nephew was from has a 5,000 seat stadium and modern weight room. They are on their 2nd field turf field with large screen replays. In 25 years. They have reserved seats which are sold out . They play in a 8 team league. There setup is the same for 6 of the 8 teams. They are D2 team which is a big step below the top D1 schools. Thie top of the D2 heap is Massillon. There stadium seats 18,500. They have luxury boxes for sponsors. Their indoor practice faculty is D1 college level. Thei basketball teams suck and they don’t have hockey. With all that they have 11 state championship (2023) since the playoff era began in 1982. Kids coming out of these programs are well coached and battle tested. Minnesota kids are behind the curve when competing with this.

I didn’t try to give him very much credit. I just said non conference is not the issue

Big difference between saying that he is really good at non conference and saying that losing to cal, UNCx2 and bowling green in 9 years isn’t the problem

Here are some comparable programs maybe (just regular season):
Nebraska under Rhule 8-1 loss to Colorado 88% winning percentage
Illinois under Beilema 12-3 80% winning percentage
Loss to Virginia, Kansas, and UTSA

Hard to compare Fickell because he had to play bama twice
Hard to compare Iowa because Ferentz has been there since the Clinton administration

Fleck 83% winning
Losses to Bowling Green, UNCx2, Cal
We really did well against UNC. Why the devil’s advocate stance I think you know we could do better than PJ.

We could do better than fleck. We are not guaranteed to do better. More likely to do worse than better.

I’ll support either way

Why are people so offended by facts?
Fleck > BB

But BB is a god and fleck sucks? (Not you just generally)

I just reread my post. Typed it on my phone while being a passenger. Lots of typos and misspellings. Bottom line is that Fleck and staff need to be virtually living in this Midwest football hotbeds where talent is forged through good competition.

Gophers fire Fleck, who had highest win % in 60 years. U Pays $26 million buyout and hire Will Stein." would be a heck of a headline. Yikes.
The best part is everyone will immediately get mad that we hired on the cheap
But wouldn’t that be a better hire than Tom Allen or some other washed coach?
