The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

Tonje was also a Niko recruit and stayed and developed at CSU for 4 years.
I thought you were wrong about this but, you are exactly right! 4 years at CSU, 1 at Missouri and now the BADgers. This is interesting and actually gives some steam to the bizarre "Garcia is back for a 6th rumor"! Tonje played 8 games last year for Missouri (including wrecking us) and had 5 years averaging 30 games per year. The guy has played in a whopping 159 games and counting.

Garcia played 16 games in the NC year.... seems to be too many but....

Would be fantastic if true! Seems like there are no rules right now or at least no enforcement. The NCAA really screwed up on all of this by not being proactive years ago with transfers, eligibility, and NIL rules. No they are powerless to do anything it appears.

I would absolutely love if Will Wade was our next coach. I just don't think the U will have the stomach to go for that.

As far as the "one of us" discussion, I often think it's less that we hire them because they are one of us and more they'd consider us because they are us.
It doesn't matter because Wade won't be interested in the job.

Why? If Medved is the guy and they can get him for $2.5, how is it somehow better if we can get him for $3.5?
I’m talking about money for the entire program. The coach’s compensation is just one piece. The annual outlay for the program has to be in the $12M-15M range if they are serious about the stated goal of top third of the B1G.

He has 9 freshmen and sophomores that could come with. Two freshmen are Minnesotans. 3 sophomores start.
He has 3 guys who are seeing significant time who have eligibility:
Kyan Evans (6'2" 175 sophomore guard, 28 mpg, 10 pts 3 assists 43% 3PT, 87% FT)
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson (6'8" 230 lb soph forward, 21 mpg, 9 ppg, 4 reb, 39% 3PT, 75% FT)
Rashaan Mbemba (6'7" 250 lb soph forward, 19 mpg, 60% fg, 7 pts 4 reb, 71% FT)

Kyle Jorgensen is a freshman forward from MN Washburn, he actually was seeing 15-20 minutes/game for the first half of the season and it appears Medved shortened the rotation a bit (or maybe an injured player came back?).

This is good info! I wonder how this blows up ncaa records. Probably should begin adding asterisks to every achievement. Highest pts/GM avg over 50 games..100 games.. strange days indeed.

Curious to see how far their FT% drop when they get to Williams arena 😂

Jo Jo McIver is the PG he has coming to CSU this fall. Looks like a great athlete:

Exactly what they said about Drake this season. (Add that to Asuma/Frank and then just find an impact transfer that fits the system).
Correct. Drake winning with D2 players. Heck St Thomas won with some D3 players.

MWC is the best conference on the west coast and a top 6 conference with multiple NCAA berths each year.

Marcus says his sources say it's Niko.
"Jefferson, a 6-10, four-star recruit, told the Star Tribune on Sunday he was going to see who the new hire is before deciding whether to stick with his letter of intent with the Gophers."

He's a big part of whether Medved can hit the ground running next year. With Niko being the toast of the west right now, I optimistically think his hire would impress the kid from Cali.

In addition there is Jon Mekonnen redshiting from Eastview High School. If it does end up being Medved there is some definite potential for some guys to come with him which would be really helpful in terms of hitting the ground running.

4 star??

not really. he's recruited at a higher level, and turned 3 stars into NBA-type players. He's better than most here are saying.

David Roddy was recognized and developed by Dave Thorson.

There are numerous articles on how it went down.

I’ve eead Roddy explain (I’m paraphrasing here) that said he was hearing from top coaches (not sure whom anymore) that missed certain skills.

He had better school offers, but Dave kept tallking in depth about his QB play on football field. He took the risk and then Thorson started showing him how they teanslate and it worked like a charm. Then Thorson and Farenkorah (spelling?) taught him how to shoot his last year.

I don't claim to be an expert but I really like the upside of this kid. He sure looks to have transformed his body from early picks when Muss was recruiting him at Arkansas to now. I just bumped my NIL donation so maybe that will be the tipping point to keep him.😄

I like all three kids Ben had coming, but Jefferson would be a terrific one to keep for sure. The spacing in Medved's offense is a nice selling point.

I remember those articles also. Niko is the head coach, and no doubt Thorson was good for him. . .and he still has a good staff after losing Thorson. I actually think this year may be his best coaching job as they weren't looking very good early in the year.

You made me think about how well they develop. I think Roddy might have been the first/best, then Tonje. Clifford sort of counts, but Tad Boyle gets a little credit there also as Clifford started at CU.

CSU was 43rd on offense and 46th on defense this year on Evan Miya- pretty solid on both ends.
39th overall team rating with a roster ranking of 60th - so he coached them beyond their rank.
Pace of play- a little deliberate at 241st. Shooting was really good at 48% with 37% 3pt shooting and 77% FTs.
