The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

Not sure what thread to put this in, but man was I impressed with Niko tonight. I have to admit I am kind of bummed that Iowa is getting McCollum. I was super impressed with his coaching against Missouri, but Medved was also great tonight. I would argue that Colorado State was flat out the better team and it took a fluke for them to lose. It's not often a mid major plays a 4 seed and goes 5-21 from 3 and the high major 4 seed goes 10-24 and the mid major had the lead the vast majority of the game. Also, CSU was playing with a limited starter at the 5 and still out rebounded Maryland 39-29. Queen was a 14% 3 point shooter and he hit 2/3 from 3 plus made the really tough angle shot at the buzzer at the buzzer over a good contest from Morton.

I really would have like to see CSU in the Sweet 16 as I think it would have been great for buzz around the Niko hire. The upside of the loss is he should be available to get busy on the portal when it opens tomorrow.

I would like to see Evans, Crocker-Johnson, and Mbemba follow him from Colorado State and would trust him to evaluate anyone else on the roster to be able to make an impact up a level (the little I've seen of their lone commit for next year intrigues me). I think we still likely need to find our impact player (Garcia/Clifford type lead scorer) from elsewhere and that will be key to getting off to a (needed imho) winning start to the Medved era.

I’d like to see somebody break down that game and find how many times a player took three steps or more and didn’t get called for a travel. My guess is it’s five minimum and maybe more than 10. That’s just the way it is.
The other I wonder about is palming/carrying the ball. I can't remember the last time it was called but I see it a lot, especially during between the legs dribbling. Did they change that rule at some point?

At some undefined point, the game transitioned from fundamentals to flair...and officiating was most accommodating.
