The Case for Niko (aka Niko’s Case)

I don't know. I have mixed feelings. I watched the second half of the Colorado State game and I didn't see a single shot clock violation. Ben's teams could get three of those in a half! Also, there was too much quick passing and cutting in the half-court and not nearly enough dribbling around the perimeter.

Seriously, though, the one possible piece of bad news is that Niko's price may go up.

$3-$4 million for him per season would be fair.

be careful here. His mistake was choosing Nebraska, when if he'd waited a year, Gophers may have been his home, and who knows how that would have turned out. Sometime it's about the choices one makes. Miles at that point was a really good fit for the Gophers.
He was absolutely my first choice in 2013.

You're right, the wins going forward don't matter. Looking at the bigger picture, if CSU makes the NCAA tournament this year, it will be the 3rd time in 4 years under Niko.

Only one other CSU coach in history did that and it was nearly 60 years ago. And Niko is doing it during a time where schools like CSU aren't supposed to be able to compete due to NIL and the transfer portal.
Niko lost John Tonje to Missouri in the transfer portal 2 years ago, who now stars for Wisconsin. And yet Niko has recovered and is having success. Seems like a good choice if true.

not really. he's recruited at a higher level, and turned 3 stars into NBA-type players. He's better than most here are saying.
Monson won rookie coach of the year his first year at Gonzaga (won a then record 24 games)

In season 2 he took them to the Elite 8 where they barely lost to the eventual national champion Uconn. His resume was better than Medved's.

I'm just wary of the hot new coach at a mid-major. That's what Monson was when we hired him

Will Wade....show him the money. He'll follow the green.

??? Medved has been a head coach for a dozen years.

He was literally a potential candidate four years ago. He’s not some new up and comer who made a one-off March madness run. He’s a proven builder.

When we hired Monson, he'd been a head coach for two years and won 52 games. Niko has been a a head coach for 12 years. He already has 210 career wins. Not remotely the same thing.

I was just saying this to my wife this evening. Niko has never been hotter than he is right now. He's a fucking shooting star at the moment.

Yep. He's accomplished a lot since we hired Johnson.

Also, Dutcher was thr right move 4 years ago, and we completely blew it.
Yeah, the original sin was not bringing in Dutcher. He was not high with the GH posters though.

Give me a break....he was a candidate four years ago because he's "one of us"....nobody in P4 was looking to hire him four years ago. I hope I'm wrong.

What Wade has done at McNeese is ridiculous. Probably one of he worst programs in country when he took the job (I know I know it was his own fault), but his squad this year would've run the Gophers off the court IMO.
