Pretend you are him. Not being from MN and having any ties to program outside memphis players. Would you rather play for a team that has a 50/50 chance to make the tourney or any of those teams Katz provided?

I LOVE the Gophers but there is no chance we land him. I'll eat my words if he does.

I would first want to get a guaranteed starting spot and copious amounts of playing time. Then go from there.

What is Black looking for? PT? Championship? Fame (TV time)? Good coaching? Development for draft? Warm weather? Campus food? money given to him by coaches?

I'm sure it's a combination of these and some I didn't mention.

I'm telling you guys, we need to sell him on the all expenses paid trip to Maui in November.

@BlueDevilLair: Tarik Black graduated from Memphis yesterday and got to Durham last night. He'll be on campus until tomorrow:

Go Gophers!!

Zagsblog ...

Memphis transfer Tarik Black is visiting Duke today and will visit Kansas on Tuesday, sources confirmed to SNY.tv.
Last week he visited Oregon and then went to Georgetown.
The 6-foot-9 Black met recently with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, as well as Ohio State coach Thad Matta and San Diego State’s Steve Fisher.
The 6-9 Black averaged 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds as a junior last season for the Tigers. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
“I will not be conducting any interviews during this process,” he said recently by text.

Two programs I am starting to dislike as much as puke( I mean duke)-kansas and michigan state.

Man, it must be good to be Kansas right now. Hard to believe Black picked them over Duke when he could more easily start at Duke and probably be on a better team anyway.

Who's getting time over him at Kansas?

Wiggins and Black will be a lethal combo.

You know, Joel Embiid is a top-10 recruit in the country according to ESPN. A Center who is playing at KU next year. Depending on Bill Self's tastes, Black's role may not be a starting one. Black was always overrated during this transfer process because of supply and demand. The demand for a big man who can contribute was much greater than the supply. Chances are KU and Duke never even offered this guy a scholarship out of high school, and wouldn't have hadn't their star big men just exhausted their eligibility.

wayne seldon, joel embiid, andrew wiggins, now tarik black to go along with nardir tharpe and perry ellis, before this i was thinking kansas wouldnt even be top 15

this is waht kansas's lineup will look like and will be top 4
PG:nardir tharpe, top 100 junior, minnesota was high on his list i remember
SG wayne seldon, top 15 freshman
SF: andrew wiggins, we all know him
PF: perry ellis, mcdonalds all american sophmpre
C: joel embiid, ranked #6 in the nation on ESPN, freshman

bench of tarick black, 2 top 50 freshman in brannen green and connor frakamp and 3 other three star sophmores

Black could very well be coming off the bench for KU.

They have Wiggins and Ellis who will almost assuredly be starting. Black will have to battle it out with incoming freshman forward Brannen Greene, incoming freshman center Joel Embiid, redshirt freshman forward Landen Lucas and sophomore JamariTraylor.

Agreed. I used to like MSU, but now they're really starting to wear on me. A lot of it is the entitlement mentality that their fans have developed. In fact, one MSU alum I know is still fuming that the Gophers had the nerve to beat the Spartans this year. In his mind, that should not be allowed to happen.

Black would have been a nice addition for the Gophers but let's be honest, he's been made out to be a lot better than he is simply because a few folks thoughts Lil' Ricky had a chance to land him via college hoops' version of free agency. He'll be a nice contributor for Bill Self, nothing more, nothing less.

Fair points, but the fact remains that he is a far better player than anyone the Gophers currently have in the frontcourt and would've immediately been tabbed for 30+ mpg in our rotation.

I think a lot of were fantasizing the possibility of bringing in a physical presence that would allow scholarship flexibility in 2014 and 2015. I know I was as excited about his 1 remaining year as I was about his ability. Decent player. Solid athlete. Big and strong. One year left. Oh, well. Bring on Buckles!

at least we can comfort ourselves with the fact that tarik was just as good at fouling as he was at rebounding, maybe self can coach him up in one year though

On the way into work this morning they were playing an interview with Tarik Black. He has become a team leader and almost plays the role of a coach. Pretty impressive for a player to step up into that sort of role having not even stepped onto the court for a game yet.

Was confused why this came up again, but that was a great post. He would have fit nicely in Pitino's system. Hopefully this year goes well for him and he can get his career back on track at Kansas
