When I charter a jet, I can get a Light Jet such as a Citation Ultra, Beechjet 400A, or Learjet 31 for about 1,900 - $2,400 per hour. 50K per year will not allow him many overnight trips via private jet.

Very Light Jets (VLJ)$2,000/hr up to $2,350/hr

So if Richard used a very light jet he has 25 hours of travel. It's not much, but it's a start and if he has success here hopefully we expand the budget for him.

Does that include the price of a pilot? That can be spendy also.

Rate is all inclusive (Pilot and crew).

Keep in mind these are averages and don't include deals that can be made with privately owned planes or with companies like netjet that you prepay for hours and can get better rates.

Is the hourly rate time in the air or time with access to the plane? Would be a major difference in the cost if you took a 90 minute flight but needed to stay overnight and added another eight hours to the tab.

my guess is air time, as that is how FAA determines hours between maintenance requirements.

private jet

the $50,000 is above and beyond what boosters provide for jet use, he has plenty of options.

Do the boosters routinely provide jet use however? I know Mason always said he had access to booster jets, yet never actually was able to benefit from it even once. They were always in use when he needed them. I would also be curious to know how many boosters have their own jets? The lack of private jets is a big disadvantage to the competition especially when trying to hit all the AAU tournaments across the country. There are schools where the head coach and often if not always the assistants have access to jets.

Tarik played AAU ball with Austin Hollins I believe, so it'd be nice if Austin was reaching out to him right now along with Andre since they knew each other from high school ball.

Don't think your belief is true. My recollection is that Andre played AAU ball for a year w/Memphis Magic, but it was the year after Black was gone. So, they played for the same program with some of the same teammates, but different years.

In reality, many kids know each other. There are relationships/connections all over the place.. city to city, state to state.

Read the message again, GW. I don't think Gameday is claiming that Andre played AAU ball with Tarik Black.

Coach K had 72 round trip private plan trips in 2012 not counting games. Roy williams and Bill Self have unlimited private plane use.

That's essentially an extra $1 million in benefits. Since we are paying pitino very little, kill as well, we should be able to afford that. Seriously Teague, lets pick it up.

I should have made it more clear. My points were 1) GameDay may be confusing Andre and Austin and 2) Andre and Tarik missed one another by a year with the Memphis Magic, but shared many of the same teammates.

I added emphasis with italics for Andre because my thought is GameDay may be thinking of him vs. Austin because Andre & Tarik both played for the Memphis Magic, but different years. IIRC Austin was with the Nashville Celtics.

Rate is travel time. As for overnights...really depends on the company you are using. If it is netjets, you can fly into most major airports with out any overnight charges. If you own the plane, you typically have to pay an overnight fee that includes plane parking and crew per diems. IF it is a borrowed corporate jet...often times the pilot/crew are employees of corporation and you might not have to pay any fees.

That said, most recruiting trips in a corporate jet are same day...that is why they are using the jet. Get in and out fast. If you are taking a 5 day trip, fly like everyone else.

@DarrenWolfson: Checked in w/ Memphis transfer Tarik Black's AAU coach again. Says the #Gophers have a realistic shot. Black has no visits set up as of now.

Got it.

Does anyone know the typical timeframe of when transfers announce their decisions? Early to mid May?

@DarrenWolfson: Andre and Austin Hollins both have never played AAU with Black, per his coach ..."

As much crap as Doogie takes on this board, he seems to be more diligent and informative with his latest information. Not as much opinion in tweets, much more solid fact with sources given. I feel like I can fully trust what he is "reporting"! Good job Doogie!

I've always liked Doogie dating back to his days at KFAN. We all have room for improvement in what we do...good work, Doogs.

+1. Especially on we all having room for improvement

Here are a few additional thoughts on Tarik Black relative to what he brings and what the Gophers need.

2-point field goal shooting
The Gophers didn’t shoot the ball well in 2012-13. Tarik isn’t a guy with incredible post moves or much range, but he can deliver the ball to the bottom of the net with great efficiency when at the rim. See the video at the end of this article to see him (almost – he was called for a charge- good call?) finishing against the Gophers....

What would lead you to believe they can afford this expense. They had to borrow money to pay off the fired coaches which they are still paying off as well as couldn't afford to even add lights to the baseball stadium initially. The AD appears to be far from flush with money.
