Souhan blasts Teague, says he's unwilling to fulfill his duties as it relates to Kill

People are really getting after Jimmy in the comments. In his blog he mentioned he received a few thousand hate emails. Ill be sending an email to his bosses. Hopefully momentum builds and he gets canned.

In any case, you have to love the irony here. Jim Souhan: "The football program, and by extension the entire school, became the subject of pity and ridicule." Some advice for Jim: look in the mirror and then re-think who is truly on the receiving end of "pity and ridicule."

It is obvious that the management of the Tribune doesn't get it either if they know about this.

Coach Kill by the way is my coach and I back him 100%. Leave it to the doctors and the coach's family to decide what is proper.

Nope. Much like not clicking any links to his articles, I switch the station at noon. Judd & Dubay are great from 9-noon, but I won't listen after noon. No support for Souhan. No support for Reusse.

So great that I'm willing to bet Judd defends Souhan 100% tomorrow morning. He was the one moaning about Teague not giving him daily updates during the basketball coaching search. He'll be bitching about Teague not personally sending him an e-mail on the situation tomorrow, I guarantee it.

Souhan is an ahole, in his latest blog post he follows Viking drivel with a joke about the hate mail he's been getting posting sid's email.

I think the strib/1500 should be banned from tcf stadium and gopher events until they make souhan issue a public apology to coach kill, no apology no press pass, including the Vikings seasons to come at the bank.

So you are saying to not honor the contract the U has with 1500 to broadcast the games huh? That would open the U to being sued and is clearly not a very good idea.

Doesn't KFAN broadcast the football games?

Edit - sorry missed other events part.

Part of the problem is the casual fan won't think for themselves, and will take the crap he spewed as a view of a lot of people. I argued with my dad, what would they ask that couldn't wait or be addressed during the week.

You're right. My bad. I am not usually a radio listener and got my station that broadcasts the game confused. Still not sure it would be a good idea to refuse local media access and may create even more hard feelings in the future.

Yeah I know, I just wish there was a way to make Souhan hurt from all this. Maybe Jerry should just call him out in his presser. This guy is a horrible human being, this latest article is just the latest evidence.

Again, not exactly sure which station the U has a contract with but don't think the U wants to basically excommunicate a major portion of the media in the state since it may come back to haunt them in the future. I do agree that Soupcan needs to be made an example of and be called out publicly.

Let's leave it up to Kill and his doctors, rather than play doctor and speculate.

I agree 100% that it is up to Kill & his family and his doctors. Shame on Jim Souhan. As a parent of a disabled child, Souhan's mindless ignoramous diatribe makes me angry.

Teague and the U administration knew fully up front about JK's epilepsy when they hired him. He has done a remarkable transformation on the kids that he coaches and teaches about life's lesson on and off the playing field. About overcoming adversity, about living a disciplined purposeful life. He lives by example. The kids, the coaches, the fans, and kids with epilepsy love him. He is very giving of his time and energy to others. He is turning this wrecked program around. He should be judge on his merits and not his disability.
For the U to force him to step down strictly because of his seizures will be a violation of the American Disabilities Act.

What, because he has a public seizure he should not be allowed to coach. I've got news for you Souhan. Leaving coaching will not prevent him from having any more seizures. It is what it is. This is what life has dealt Kill, and he is dealing with it like a real man with courage and dignity.

The only people that subject him to pity and ridicule is you and like minded people fomenting prejudism against the disabled.

So... when will the 'Souhan Sucks' chant be starting next Saturday? Want to make sure I'm in my seat for that one...

"No one who buys a ticket to TCF Bank Stadium should be rewarded with the sight of a middle-aged man writhing on the ground."
Jim Souhan describing a Coach who is battling Epilepsy.

Putting everything else aside, this comment alone, should end Mr. Souhan's employment at the Star Tribune.

Seriously. That one should be grounds for termination. And I am even one of those concerned about the epilepsy situation as it pertains to Coach Kill's future. How about people with Cerebral Palsy? Down's Syndrome? Should we ban them from the stadium as well due to their medical conditions? MIght make some people uncomfortable. That one is straight up offensive. It also shows that Souhan doesn't even have his facts straight. At the game, the atmosphere was business as usual.

And maybe we shouldn't have to see people in wheel chairs or mentally challenged people, because it might make people feel uncomfortable. It is bullcrap

Let's throw in bi-racial or gay couples while we're banning things that make some uncomfortable. I said it before, someday (hopefully soon), Souhan will regret writing this column.

This list is woefully inadequate without Xavier basketball coach Baldy McBalderson aka Chris Mack.

Ah yes, I remember that well. Having different opinions is fine but the flawed reasoning is often maddening. His comment was 'I can understand Teague keeping quiet about the search but once a rumor is out needs to publicly address it.' WTF.

My email to Souhan, the Strb leadership and the athletic department.

You need to email this to him.

I am going to send a cleaner version to the Strb leadership email addresses. Littlebigboy said I should submit it as a letter to the editor.

Sorry Littlebigboy I decided not to submit it as a letter to the editor.

Star Tribune Leadership,

I have never written to complain about a columnist because I think everyone is entitles to their opinion, but this hit me a little too close home for me. In Jim Souhan’s column “In category of health, Kill falls too short to continue” I was completely caught off guard. Is this the message you want the Star Tribune to be known for? “You can’t because you are disabled”.

I guess I should not be negotiating and writing temp labor contracts because I am dyslexic. I wish Mr. Souhan would have told me that before I wasted the last decade of my life doing just that for a Fortune 100 company.

Jim Souhan is looking right into the eyes of thousands of little kids and saying “You can’t because you are disabled”. People like Coach Kill, that are succeeding in life even with a disability, mean everything to little kids struggling with disabilities. Doctors and specialists point to these successful people and say “look, you can do it”. Growing up I was bullied by other kids and told by a high school guidance counselor I would never graduate high school because of my disability. I did graduate high school, earned a bachelor’s of science and made the Dean’s list several times in the process. I am glad my parents never let me quit and gave me role models like Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Nelson Rockefeller, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklyn to look up to. I am also glad that Jim Abbott didn’t have a bully like Jim Souhan telling him he couldn’t play Major-League Baseball because he only had one hand. I do understand the point of the article, but if the for mentioned role models did “step aside” as is suggested in this article, it would have been a great loss to our society don’t you think?

Coach Jerry Kill should be judged not by what happens on the side line, but by what happens on the field. Not by the disability he has, but by how his players grow and improve on and off the field. Is the program better than when he got here and is it still moving in the right direction? Is he a good role model? That is how we should judge Coach Kill.

And as for Jim’s rebuttal. Just because it is hard to watch someone in a wheel chair play basketball, or watch the Special Olympics, it is not “being cruel” to let someone chase their dreams. People like Jim Souhan and their reactions are the reason many of us try to hide our disabilities. Even if you can perform your job at a high level, people question whether you can, and scrutinize you with a microscope. Unlike Coach Kill, with the exception of a couple misspelled words and being a slow reader, I can hide my disability from the Jim Souhans of the world, not everyone is so lucky.

Those of us with disabilities may not all reach the stars we strive for, but we do learn to fly higher because we have role models that show us it can be done.

To Coach Kill: keep up the fight. “If at first the breaks are going against you, Don’t let down, put on more steam!” Murray Warmath. It may sound corny, but it is better than reading you can’t because your brain doesn’t work like everyone else’s.

These opinion writers like to take the devil's advocate role in their writing. I understand it because we are more likely to engage in their writing. Souhan had a chance to make a big statement in showing support for Jerry Kill. Showing support the coach that going to battle his tail off to get MN back to respectability even with a disability. I would have rather he brought up the medical field and even the need to legalize medicinal marijuana. We have people who struggle through severe pain and chronic illness and all we do is pump them full of narcotics and other meds. There is an easy solution that could help, not cure, but help and Souhan had the opportunity to write about it. He chose the easy devil's advocate way.

I think many have heard about the three year old that had numerous seizures a day and has not had one since going on medicinal marijuana.

For the U to force him to step down strictly because of his seizures will be a violation of the American Disabilities Act.

I don't believe that's true. ADA is about reasonable accommodations, from what my lawyer friend tells me.

Leaving coaching will not prevent him from having any more seizures. It is what it is.

You don't know that any more than Mr. Kill does actually. What triggers it? Does he know?

When was the last time Souhan bought a ticket for anything other than the Lottery ?

If the seizures ultimately result in a much more serious medical state for Kill you may have to. Which is sort of the point of the discussion. Is there additional risk for Kill with each seizure and is coaching contributing to or making the seizures worse? If the answer to both of those is yes, I'd rather have Brewster than be 12-0 and have Kill threatening his life every single game.

Those two questions are really the crux of the issue. IMO, missing game and the public perception is a very minor aspect, although it does exist as an issue.

My biggest concern is would the University let Kill worsen his condition if it meant going 12-0 & they are winning? That is something him and his doctors are hopefully discussing and I don't think anyone here can know for certain either way.

No. You miss the point. The seizures have not and likely will never result in a more serious medical state for Coach Kill. They (Docs, specialists, AD, Kill, etc) all have said as such many times in the past 2 years since being in Minnesota.

Everything you are bringing up is wild speculation.

It's also speculation when you say "likely will never result result in a more serious medical state for coach kill."

We don't know if it will or won't get worse, none of us know what Kill's chart says. Until something concrete shows this is hurting the program, people need to calm down.

It's also speculation when you say "likely will never result result in a more serious medical state for coach kill."

This is my point. Like I JUST SAID, Doctors, Coach Kill, the AD staff, etc. all have said the quoted in some variation or another.

Also, there are stats that prove my statement correct.
