per Souhan:

Teague, like Kill, seems likable enough. He’s affable, and generous with his time when the questions are easy.

Saturday, his football program, the most important piece of the athletic department, faced a leadership void. Kill was in the hospital. That left an assistant coach and some 19-year-olds to handle touchy questions.

Into this leadership void stepped … no one.

Teague may think he dampened coverage of Kill’s seizure by waiting to answer questions. He didn’t. All he did was damage his credibility as a leader.

That’s what Saturday was about for Gophers football and the athletic department: Leadership.

Kill is not healthy enough to lead. Teague will have to come up with his own excuse.

Go Gophers!!

So Teague was supposed to have a press conference to talk about the status of Kill's personal health problems and his job security. A lawyer's wet dream. Get a grip, Souhan.

Ding, ding, ding. We have the winner! End of discussion.

Very confusing and confounding position taken by Souhan. I have no idea what he is so upset about.

The associate AD or whatever his title was addressed it during the BTN progress....Maybe if Souhan actually followed the Gophers instead of just ripping them, he'd know this.

I'd bet a small wager that the associate AD probably talked to Teague about discussing Kill's condition on a national tv broadcast.

Way to support your local University Jimmy...Unbelievable! What a bunch of garbage.

I believe Souhan's point is that the AD should have addressed the situation not the associate AD.

Exactly why does Souhan have to support the University of Minnesota?

Dumbest thing I have read in a long time.

Wayne Laravee couldn't have mentioned the Kill situation more if you paid him for each mention

Don't click on the story. That's what hurts writers the most.

How many phone calls has Souhan made to Mr. Teague? I'll bet zero. How many times has Souhan spoken to Mr. Teague? I'll give him some slack here and say once. I would assume they have been introduced.

I'll bet $20 that beyond the beat writers and Sid that our all of our other local sports writers have had less than a half dozen interactions with Teague or Kill. Total. I'll bet I keep my money.

Why do we have w&@ners like him writing for the Strib? Thanks for being supportive of Jerry Kill and the football %rogram Mr Souhan.

Doogie, JC Long, Souhan etc. were all doing this bit and also complaining they didn't have the team doctor cone and talk to them. I honestly believe it's a whining over access thing. They wouldn't complain if they could talk to whoever they want to and be told the same thing as the other 3 times it's happened and that was already printed in all their news outlets, but they couldn't, so they complained.

He might have been the only person in the country upset about this. It's a total reach. He just needed something to complain about.

I realize I'm well-known for loathing Souhan round these parts, but this goes to a whole new level of low. The basement is gone, we're in sub-basement 5 right now.

This particular statement from the article galls me the most:
"Kill’s case is sad. He did good work his entire life to reach a position that his system can no longer handle."

So now Jim Souhan is the arbiter of what jobs and careers epileptics can and cannot handle? I guess I missed the part on ol' Soupcan's resume where he is a licensed epileptologist. The audacity of this man to suggest he knows when Kill's health is in such a state that he can make this determination is unreal.

Just a heads up Jim, sleeping in a Holiday Inn Express and working for the Strib does not qualify you to diagnose a man's health and how it relates to his career.

Take the pledge. "I, state your name, do solemnly pledge to never read he who must not be named."

This is scandalous! I think we have our next Benghazi!

This HAS to be the case.. Because I just can't imagine there actually being this big a contingent of spineless wonders working in our media market. And don't get me wrong, I like Doogie and many others. Souhan and Ruesse get my goad, but really, stuff like this makes me literally pity these guys..

The give away for Soup can's state of mind is this "when those generous enough to express interest in the Gophers football program"

Oh yes, Jimmy. Thank you, thank you for your extreme generosity towards the Gopher football program. We are just so blessed for all of the wonderful things you have written about the program. Why, if you didn't express interest in the program, we might have to close up shop - no one, and I mean no one, is more important than an Stib columnist!

Oh yes, Jimmy - one last thing.... GO F**K YOURSELF YOU TOTAL JERK !!!!

It's stupid to expect the media to "support" the local team. That might fly in Cedar Rapids, but in a major metro area the media isn't going to be of the rah-rah variety, nor should they be.

That said, Souhan is an idiot and a hack. He's a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian and almost everything he says is contrived and stupid.

Right. but there's a fine line between 'supporting' a team and giving us an objective article.

I don't disagree at all, it's just silly to expect the media to basically be an extension of the athletic department. That's not their jobs.

Yeah, I hear ya. I don't expect the media to give the same support. And I agree it's silly for fans to expect that as well. But it doesn't bother me that they do.

Teague f'd up by not talking to the media, even if all he was going to say was a repeat of the statement they issued.

That said, this article is trash, even by Souhan standards. Comparing Kill's B1G record to his # of seizures? Really Jim? Really? You've finally topped your ignorant column ripping Xavier before the NCAA tournament. A new low.

Kill suffers a seizure on game day as the coach of the Gophers at TCF Bank Stadium exactly as often as he wins a Big Ten game. He’s 4-for-16 in both categories.

Well....

Probably the most classless comment I have ever seen from a local Columnist.
Last year, Souhan was suspended by the Tribune. Maybe this time he should be fired.
