Sid: Gophers to Break Ground on $70M Football Facility in Dec UPDATED: Nanne says no

I'll be sure to tune in to The Sports Show on 45 this upcoming Sunday night. A horribly put together show in a small room where Sid goes on his rants in which it's obvious that he knows nothing with Mike Max humoring him and Lou Nanne arguing with him. Nanne and Sid sit right next to each other, so it should be interesting to see what they have to say to each other about this on Sunday!

I wonder if this is a Denny check with the stipulation it can only be used for football.

Lou is not a regular however. Could be high ratings if he is on this week.

I seldom check Sid on cco in the mornings lately. Might have to catch him tomorrow.

Hopefully you'll be treated to the regular occasions where his train horn alarm clock goes off blaring loud in the middle of his interview (no joke, happens often) and he leaves the interview to go turn it off, which usually gives Dave Lee a few seconds to get a Country Hearth bread endorsement in.

Go Gophers!!

Umm, why do you know this so well :) Good lord, sounds too painful to even consider listening

It's great toasted!

Anyone hear Sid mention anything this moring? I heard him at 8:40, but it was only about his article today.

Talk about March Madness! @SidHartman comes back @ 9:20 to run down the weekend in sports with @HinesWCCO. http://bit.ly/rBFhCn

What time is that garbage ol' tymer sports show on Sundays?

9:30 on channel 23. it is better comedy than news and analysis. It was great, painful comedy when Dark Star and Sid would get mad at each other. The show has gone downhill since Scout (Reusse's dog) died. Seeing a dog walk through the set once in a while was sometimes the only reason to watch.

I think I saw a tweet yesterday confirming Nanne and Sid would both be there this Sunday

Maybe Sid meant to say, "Someone broke wind yesterday at the Bierman Building."

Did anyone else catch the show? Maybe you can back-up or disagree with what I recall;

Sid did not back down from the timeline or the 70m. He said he intended to included all the all the football elements (training rooms, weithg room, etc.) recruiting offices, basketball practice facility and more in the story. -Pat noted/asked if that included moving the track large enough to hold a B1G tournament to St. Paul.

Lou made it sound like football practice facility and the basketball practice facility are attached and will be built together at the same time, no matter what (which is good news in my book). Didn't say December groundbreaking wasn't the goal... but prefaced it was a BS tomorrow is our goal too type comment. *To me December groundbreaking is BS for shovel and photos and a lot of demo work ahead and started shortly after.

FatPat said something like I sure hope this positive news about donors writing checks includes T-Denny S... Lou took an uncomfortably swallow (as in he's onto something or no chance) and the show moved on.

Sid made note of Kill telling recruits that the football facility will be on it's way soon.

*To me it feels like this is good news and the facilities and fundraising are moving along.

Thanks for the recap Hoop Dreams. I DVRd the show and plan on watching tonight, but it does appear from your recap that progress is being made. The $70MM with a shovel in the ground by December still seems way off to me, but we'll see.

Go Gophers!!

That sounds like pretty good news. I would be happy if we broke ground December 2015 to be honest. Just as long as we are moving forward.

+1. Sid's report might not have been completely accurate, but I have a hard time believing he just made the whole thing up. It might not be December and it might not be $70 mil, but I have to believe that something is imminent.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

I'll echo Bleed and say thanks for the summary. $70 million could be close to the actual cost if it incorporates Football, Basketball, and training table for all sports.

Even if we were to break ground Spring 2015- this would be great news. Basketball and Football both together makes great deal of sense to me. If we could promise incoming recruits that a full practice facility would be up and running by mid 2016 (a year to build?), the kids that are being signed this Fall for basketball and in the winter for football would have the facility for almost their entire career here. That would be huge.

That's not what I heard. Lou stated the BB facility and the FB facility are the anchors of the complex. Stated that the whole complex does not have to be built at one time. I don't recall him saying BB and FB will be built at the same time.

Also: No fireworks.....very disappointed.

If their plan it so pay for the bulk of the athletic facilities with private funds (70mil) and get the practice facilities done first and then ask for public assistance (ie. student fees) for the portions of the building that will be usable by all students... that would be a pretty good way to attack this thing.

Go Norwood!
