Sid: Gophers to Break Ground on $70M Football Facility in Dec UPDATED: Nanne says no

when was the last time sid broke anything? I'll hold my excitement until the U confirms such plans

says the guy who "broke" the news that Reid Travis would be announcing he would attend Minnesota. I'll still take Sid.

Lou Nanne just shot Sid's article down according to Mackey. Bummer.

This should be no surprise to anyone. Sid is ridiculous, and that timeline was ridiculous.

It was nice run......

This should be no surprise to anyone. Sid is ridiculous, and that timeline was ridiculous.

.....but it's time for Sid to retire, and write a once a week column that is thoroughly fact checked.

His material (especially broadcast) is no longer fit for human consumption.

Nanne: 'No truth' to report of groundbreaking $70M practice facility

"I'm out of town and I read this morning the erroneous report that Sid Hartman wrote about having plans to break ground in December for a $70 million facility. That's totally irresponsible," Nanne said on his weekly appearance on the Mackey & Judd show. "There are no plans to break ground and the facility that we're looking at is not remotely close to 70 million [dollars]. We want to get that word out because that is just totally, totally incorrect."

Nanne had interrupted a question morning show host Judd Zulgad was asking to set the record straight on the report from long-time columnist Sid Hartman.

"Very miffed, very miffed. Because all it does - we've got a committee of 45 and they've never heard this before. They get up and read it in the paper and say, 'Why don't we know what's going on?'" Nanne said in the radio interview.

Go Gophers!!

yeah, 70 million figure alone is just ridiculous, not sure there is any football practice facility that cost that much in the entire country

It was from Ryan Burns, one of the main Gopher recruiting experts...

So is this wrong as well or do we in fact have $35 million ready to go from a corporate sponsor? Why are people so quick to believe "sources"? I honestly can't believe that anyone would believe that a Fortune 500 company is ready to pony up 35 fricking MILLION dollars for a kitchen and training center. I'd love to be wrong, but anyone that believes that isn't in corporate America. But if Burns' sources are correct, I'll eat crow.

This should be no surprise to anyone. Sid is ridiculous, and that timeline was ridiculous.

Sid's report is careless, as is Ryan Burns saying that 35 million from a corporate sponsor is confirmed.

Did the Star Tribune even fact check our source check Sid?

I didn't even bother to comment on this because it came from Sid.

You have to think that this is the beginning of the end for Sid's career. The Strib is going to have to do major damage control over this one.

The phrase "out to pasture" will not leave my mind...

Won't be surprised if Sid takes no responsibility for this at all. He will find a way to blame someone else for his erroneous report.

Will Lou and Sid appear together on this weeks edition of The Sports Show?

Seems like we may be able to add this to the list of great predictions gone bad by the one and only GW.

I have to assume that there is something behind all of these rumors other than absolutely nothing.

I'm going the glass half-full route. Sid didn't make this up entirely out of thin air and there has been a significant step but they just weren't ready to announce it.

At this stage of his life....Sid does not know his butt from third base.

He has had VERY little credibility over the last decade, now he has none.

Nanne said there wasn't. I would be surprised if there was absolutely nothing behind the rumors.

That's what I mean. We both agree that there is nothing to the Sid rumors, which means GW was right. In your earlier post, you indicated that GW was wrong, after the U already denied Sid's rumor.

StarTribune still hasn't pulled the article. "...the StarTribune has learned..." makes it sound pretty certain and institutional.

Will be interesting to see if they eventually have to issue a retraction.

There is probably a fraction of truth to the story, and with Sid being as close as he is to the end of his career, he probably figured it would be worth it to do the irresponsible thing and leak the story before he had all the facts or permission or whatever.

December was probably mentioned by someone as the very earliest anything could possibly be started if the money was there.

Friggin Sid.
