when was the last time sid broke anything? I'll hold my excitement until the U confirms such plans

Oregon's football complex costed 68 million and they have the consensus best facility in the country. Tennessee has the best complex in the SEC and their's costed 45 million. Our's is suppose to cost 70 million!?!? People say we need this not to boast about our incredible commitment to athletics but just to be competitive. If we actually manage to get this project done we would easily have the best facility in the conference and maybe in the country.

Is this legit? Like. Actually happening? Will we have a basketball facility ready for use by 2017?

It says we will break ground in December. We will actually have raised $70 million by next December and begin construction? That sounds way too good to be true.

Not necessarily. They could have the commitment for a good portion of that to allow them to break ground and begin construction, then continue to raise funds as they go.

I'd be a little disappointed if a basketball facility wasn't in the first phase of a 70M$ project.

I wish a hoops facility was first, but it's great news to see things headed in the right direction facility wise. The key (to me at least) is for these facilities to be at/near the elite level when built. If they're not, we will just be back in the same place we are now in 5 years or so.

Seems like we may be able to add this to the list of great predictions gone bad by the one and only GW.

"Per Sid, ground will be broken in December for a $70 million football practice complex. "

+1. First it costs at most 1/3 of that. And the need is far more pressing. TCF makes the football needs a bit less pressing IMO.

Football pays the bills. Basketball will be next. If they are breaking ground on the football facility in December, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that they break ground on the basketball facility around this time next year. I would be ecstatic with that considering we thought it might take until 2016 and beyond to even think about building a practice facility.

I have a hard time believing this is an accurate report though. Breaking ground in December for a project this large would be extremely aggressive. Outside of all the University hurdles to go through, you have all other city entitlements and permitting to go through. Considering we haven't seen any plans, and they are months away from a fundraising feasibility study being completed, this has Sid written all over it.

I wonder if this is a Denny check with the stipulation it can only be used for football.

Sid does still have connections in the football program so I believe it. This is huge!

My thought as well. The bulk of the $$ raised so far may have been given for football specifically.

Totally agree with you. Basketball- we have nothing and should be first. We have a window of opportunity with Pitino here.

Will there be a Stabbing Treatment Center (STC) in the new facility?

Will there be a Stabbing Treatment Center (STC) in the new facility?

That is funded by the "Mizzissippi Fowndashon 4 Lerning & Safet."
