• Reid Travis is the type of person who always sought to be the best he can be in all endeavors in his life. All that know him respect and like him . He is a man of utmost integrity. He's been dedicated to achieve excellence in the classroom.
• His pursuit of excellence is evident is his athletic life too. Reid's desire to compete and improve his physical and bball school ability is as strong as any athlete I've worked with at any level. He has been the consummate teammate and team leader. He's helped De La Salle earn 2 state championships, and every honor that's been bestowed on him personally.
• Rene Pulley doesn't get enough credit. It's remarkable what Rene has done to help people like Reid. We appreciate everyone he's helped.

Reid Travis: *
This was arguably the toughest decision I've had to make in my life. *In the end, I need a school that is a good fit for me.

They have been following my progress since I was a sophomore.

I love the U, don't get me wrong. It was the comfort I felt at Stanford. If I can feel that way one weekend, I can only imagine playing there. Johnny Dawkins was like talking to a family member, he was checking in on me all the time.

I have total faith in their program. I can see that they're really taking interest in their program. I don't have any fear of Johnny losing his job. Plus, it's a nice school, I'm going there for the school 1st, regardless of what happens with basketball.

I've been flip flopping all week, and last night it really just came to me that it would be Stanford. I always found myself drawing back to Stanford.

I love Pitino's coaching style, and him as a person, and the assistants, I have nothing bad to say about them. I don't dislike the fact of playing at home, but found that this was my calling.

It's huge to get this over with before the HS season, I didn't think there was stress involved until I set a date

Dawkins may have fallen out of his chair when I told him. They said as a Freshman, they thought I'd go there, they felt like the won the Super Bowl when I told them (haha). I felt like I was their #1 recruit from freshman year.

I want to give my parents the opportunity to say that I have a son at Harvard and Stanford.

Duke intrigued me when they talked about playing with Tyus, but I had to do what was best for me. I didn't talk to Tyus at all during this process, kept it brief and said good luck to each other.

I called Pitino. That's the way to do it. I hope that Ben and I still have the strong relationship we've had. There will be no fault there, I think he respects me. He respects everything that I've done.

I have no bad blood for anyone at MN, and hope that there's none for me.

There wasn't a clear cut number 2 choice, two schools were tied for 2nd.

Nobody will seriously fault the decision. Stanford's an elite institution. But I, for one, do not appreciate the manner in which Reid comported himself. I think it was classless. Tyus has not and I suspect will not consciously and intentionally raise the hopes of Minnesota fans in order to dash them. That is the classy way to leave the state, if you're going to do so.

The reaction in the other thread shows he made the right choice. You can't shower a kid with love and then when he decides to further himself off the court elsewhere call him all different kinds of things. I've known him since he was a little kid and he's always been a nice, smart and very polite kid. Disappointed he's not staying home but he's been a Stanford lean for quite some time. Also considering the state of the program and the fact we have a new coach with very little experience it would of been a miracle if Pitino would of been able to get him. The fact that Reid gave the U such a chance at the end should be looked at as a positive. Pitino will do great things here with time but people need to be patient and supportive first.

Can't blame him for choosing Stanford. I simply refuse to believe that he didn't know his choice prior to last night or even prior to the Gophers last scrimmage.

I think the reaction in the other thread just shows a fan base that is crushed by a hometown kid again. yet another disappointment in minnesota sports. I hope you don't take the reaction as more than that. And please don't take this the wrong way but now that he is not a gopher I will not cheer for him again. He is a cardinal if he fails to develop as a player all that does is help the gophers in regards to their ability to make the tourney every year.

Go Gophers and skrew everyone else!

So you're here to gloat too

Decision was fine. Handling of decision was awful. He trolled Gopher fans for a week. He invited them to the press conference and then didn't let them in. Good luck at Stanford, but you are no friend of Gopher fans.

I wish him the best of luck. I also want him to regret his decision - can't help it I'm a Gopher fan.

Not at all because I am disappointed but i'm happy he'll be able to get a great education.

People say this like University of minnesota isn't a good education. I understand that Stanford is a step above the U especially in undergrad but let's not pretend like the U is a bad place for school. It's not in the SEC for instance.

Jesus christ folks, it's a kid that picked a fantastic school with a comparable basketball team to the U's.

Furry, it was GOPHERHOLE that made a mountain out of a molehill. Travis did NOTHING to string fans along. The kid was nothing but a class act during this entire process, and I'll be cheering like hell for him. I hope he has an incredible college career and an even better NBA career.

Indicates it was a late decision. Would not waste his time taking in classes at U if he already knew

Agreed. This is a Gophers message board, not a Minnesota high school board. I understand sometimes those intersect, but Reid is now Nate Wolters to me. I don't wish him ill, but I take no joy what so ever in his potential success like I would were he a Gopher. Just as Nate Wolters is "nothing" to me, as is Reid Travis. I put nothing in "" as I don't want to insinuate it being a negative thing, it just really is that, nothing. I have no personal interest or caring in how he does unless it has a direct impact to the Gophers in which case I hope Stanford fails miserably.

Well, there you go. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty happy that Reid almost wanted to come here. Everybody put on your happy faces! All snark aside, it comes down to this: He made the choice that is best for him. Stanford is nothing special on the court. However, it is, as you say, a great school and it was obviously important for him to get a good education.

Well, it's different. Nate Wolters didn't spurn the Gophers. He didn't do it in a classless way. So, he's nothing to me. I'm interested to see how he did, but I don't care one way or the other. Reid trolled the entire state. I'll be hoping his basketball career is an unsuccessful one.

Completely agree. I hope that he does fine, but I hope that Stanford is a mediocre team.

Sorry about calling you out a few days earlier. Clearly you knew more than some of us.....basing our judgement solely off a foggy window view.

I've been flip flopping all week, and last night it really just came to me that it would be Stanford. I always found myself drawing back to Stanford.

Indicates? It doesn't take much effort to say that it was a tough decision that came down to the night before. Do you honestly believe that he finally "saw the light" the night before his decision? He knew that he would be shunning hometown fans. Anyone with half a brain would have something prepared to say in order to lighten the blow.....and Reid has never appeared to be anything but a smart kid. Unfortunately, even a smart, hometown kid can be deceptive.

Im glad you are supporting your friend. He isn't my friend nor the friend of most on this board. If this was the "support reid" board, then your opinion would be reasonable and appreciated. Since this is a Gopher Fan Board and your friend just spurned us...the reaction by our fans is reasonable and appreciated. If you prefer, start the Reid Board and gain your following, but don't tell me how I should feel and react.

Reid is dead to me and I hope that his Coach is fired and he never sees the NCAA while Pitino leads our Gophs to a final four. Lastly, I hope he comes back in 7 years with his degree and gets beat out for the job he wants by a U grad that didn't shun his hometown team. The grass isn't always greener.

As usual..we can agree to disagree.

I will admit right now....I'm bitter about his choice. Tyus's pick will be much less of a blow because we know he isn't going to choose the Gophers. It appears that Reid considered us as a second choice to Stanford yet baited us for the past couple weeks.

Good luck at Stanford. I won't be rooting for their success.

Look, you don't care about sports that much. That's fine. You share that with most of the sports media in this town. I'm happy you've been able to achieve such a level of emotional distance that you can cheer for everybody to be Super Winners and everybody to be one big dandelion chain of good feelings and warm fuzzies, singing kumbaya on the basketball court. But some of us choose to come to this board because we love the U basketball program, and want it to win. So losing out on a player like Reid is a blow to us. I'm sure Stanford and its fans are sharing your hopes and dreams for success for Reid and the Stanford basketball program. If you're disgusted by our reaction, I'm sure that board would be far more congenial to you, and I urge you to seek it out.

Stanford is an excellent school in an excellent area. I simply don't like the manner in which the decision was made. Minnesota has seen many elite players in both basketball and football leave the state. It's the norm at this point. Seemed like Travis was going to shed that negative view, but it appears that it was a major trolling.

Agree 100000%

In what "bad manner" was this decision made? I'm not following.

Invite public to decision. Change location so they can't fit. Don't let them in. Mention during press conference that you didn't expect this many people (Total BS).

He never said the public was invited. It sounded like his tweet was more directed towards his students, didn't say public anywhere. A few people took it to mean public and it spread everywhere.

And mentioning that he didn't expect many people isn't really anything bad. What was he supposed to say?

He didn't troll anyone. You're overreacting.

I'm not Reid, don't know that one. But I just don't think he meant public at all when he first said it. Maybe he doesn't follow GopherHole or doesn't follow reporters on Twitter?

+1 to all of this. I'm disappointed, but wish him the best!
