Post Game Thread: Buckeyes Comeback on Gophers Keeps Undefeated Season Alive

Washington gave up 24 points to Ohio State last week. Ohio (MAC) gave up 37 points the week before. Our defense isn’t a big asset this year. Hard time stopping opposing offenses, and simply not producing turnovers. I think we have one turnover in our four P4 games. Seems to be talent — but the poor tackling is really amazing.

Drake didn’t throw an INT and nobody fumbled. Actually a positive sign for our offense against this defense. Good to have DT back, but he didn’t look good. Slow. Lingering injury problem? Fame looked better and, for now, seems to give us a better chance to win.

How long will the Special Teams curse burden the Gophs? We have a field goal kicker who can’t make a kick outside of 40 yards. That is insane for a team that will have to win some close games to have a decent record. Our guys clearly weren’t coached up for Ohio State’s trick play punt return. We don’t do creativity, so hard to practice against it.

Bold: that might be because we only had 26 passes and 25 rushes.

In defense of our players and coaches, I have no idea why Ohio State chose to waste that trick play punt return in this game when the game was clearly in hand. That was very well designed and executed....save that for a high leverage situation.

It was for their fans in the stands. Night games are a big deal for them. They weren't having as much fun as needed to that point. All was well after that.

Doesn't make that a smart call in any way. But for example coaches go for it on 4th down at times really due to the fans in spite of what the card says. Same deal.

And classless when you’re kicking the shit out of a team in every phase

Maybe, but thats no excuse for our players and coaches.

Unless you think "dont worry about any trick plays, tOSU wont need them against us" is effective coaching.

Sometimes you put it on tape so others worry about it and it opens up something else.

I get that for trick plays on offense. But not really sure that applies to this one. Is what it is but I would have kept that one in the bag to use in a future game.

They can't use it now? Opposing coaches never ever imagined a trick play was possible on a punt? Never coached their special teams it was possible? But now it'll never work?

Good lord.
