The majority of last years team was there for 1 year, how did that build something sustainable? It led to a last place finish, and probably will again this season. There was room to keep more that would have helped them win more last season, and winning more games leads to building something more sustainable.
It also got rid of the cancer types and set a tone. I value that in building as well. Keeping those inefficient guys wasn’t going to help that. Plus they weren’t good except for Johnson and Gabe who from my understanding they did try and keep.

You build something sustainable by bringing in talented freshman classes...which is what Johnson is doing. Not by getting one year rent-a-players so that you can go 6-14 in conference rather than 4-16.

Clem did a ground-up rebuild. 2-16 & 4-14 in his first 2 years. Then Sweet-16 when his guys became juniors & sophomores.

That's what Ben is attempting to do. He has 4 freshmen playing now...and he has higher rated recruits coming next year, including a 5-star.

I know you have no interest in this. I realize that all you want to do is sling mud and wallow in manure. But there are a few Gopher fans on here who are able to have a worthwhile discussion.
Please stop with the Clem road map, that was over 30 years ago, none of the current players were even born yet. As much as I appreciate what Clem did, if he were coaching today his methods would not work. You constantly want to ignore that many coaches are able to turn programs around quickly, and that’s your prerogative, but stop with the basically calling people dumb if they ‘ignore’ your example of Clem. It’s ironic you are doing the exact same thing as the people who ‘ignore’ your Clem example, you just ignore the numerous coaches whom are turning programs around in a very short time frame. Just stop already. Bottom line, BJ is not turning this around quickly, there are numerous coaches who have done a better job than BJ, nobody wants to fire BJ today. Done. Some people don’t think BJ should have been hired, just accept it, they are not saying fire him now. They may be right or they may be wrong, we will find out in the next two years.

The question was:
examples of coaches within the last 10 years who have had a tough couple of years and went on to be very successful.
Didnt say anything about KenPom or any other sh:t, so kind of hard when it’s limited to 10 years.
A Coach can struggle in the first two years and then find success.
Jamie Dixon at TCU struggled after the the first two years and now has them playing well
Randy Bennet at St. Mary’s ( he’s outside the 10 year window) struggled early but has had much success after that.
Tony Bennett at Virginia( just outside the 10 year window) is another who started slow the first two years.
Rick Barnes at Tennessee was under .500 in conference the first two year and below it overall those years.
One of these records is not like the other (I'm not going to include Randy Bennet at St. Mary's from 20 years ago):
14-22 (.368)
5-21 (.192)
15-21(.416)
12-20 (.375)

All I ask is that you guys specify what you want from a coach. Don't say 'rebuild' (which implies ground-up with recruiting) when you really expect 'instant'.

Who in college basketball has defined rebuild as ground up via recruiting? And recruiting also counts portal players. And BTW, Ben has portal players (Garcia, Cooper, Battle, Samuels). Three of which represent almost all of our offense and count as some of our main future assets.

Some folks need to define it in a way where all criticism for the next couple of years will be a sign of the person "not getting it".

They'll talk down the portal despite Ben using the portal a ton.
They'll throw hissy fits at any discussion of results - even if those expectations are minimal.
They'll make up how long Ben's been the coach.

They are starting at the conclusion, a "rebuild" means whatever it needs to mean to deflect ALL criticism.

If only recruiting high schoolers counts… there would be zero rebuilds in college basketball

I thought this thread was about Kenpom ratings? Gophers still ahead of UST after a bad loss last night. I know UST didn't play last night, but in the kenpom system; is a Big Ten loss worth more than a Summit League win?

This thread was about a poll of UST would ever at all be ahead of the gophers on the season, which happened.

That must have been very exciting for you. To my question, is a big ten loss worth more than a summit league win?
Doesn’t change the nature of the poll. Still a fan of the gophers. And I think all are outweighed by a 120+ year old big10 school being lower ranked (even for a day) in the kenpom compared to UST who has D3 players on the roster in their second year ever as they transition to D1 (happened multiple times this year).

So... loss vs Illinois > summit league win. Got it.

So being behind UST in KenPom for a day is okay when they are in year 2. Got it.

And that was no ordinary loss.
I don't think it matters. It's a pretty worthless poll when comparing the two teams. And you say UST is doing it with D3 players while also claiming three (or more) would play for the Gophers? Not sure how that makes sense.

Do they not have Riley Miller, will Engels, Bjorklund …all three are contributors and D3 players.

Of those on Miller could maybe play for the gophers as a specialist (shooting).

Blue > Carrington
Rohde > Carrington, Samuels, Henley

Not Blue > Samuels? Yikes.

Are you really confused by this?

Good catch. Hit reply before catching that. He is clearly better than Samuels.
Not really that clear since one plays in the Big Ten and the other in the Summit. But probably...I may agree if I could watch their games without supporting ESPN every month.

You support comcast with as the gophers are not on ESPN often, BTN requires a surcharge to every customer. Just drive the extra 8 minutes and watch once.

There are some good players in the Summit League. Max Ahmas (pre-season all American) @ Oral Roberts, Grant Nelson (7 ft Dirk Nowitzki-style big @ NDS *very good) -
